  1. As the others have pointed out you may just need to invest more time and getting to know the limits of your MiniMac etc .... Or invest some Cash looks like a good Choice on computer to me you linked above ( don't know the company) , I might go 32GB on the RAM but good CPU and Good Graphics, I just received a 1070ti as an RMA, same as the Computer linked above and it is handling PBR nicely ........comeback from the Dark Side you'll love your new PC. M.
  2. So you tried the Settings in Post no#43 on page 2 ? and set it up in your defaults? Setting PBR as the normal Full Camera View can help so you don't need to switch from STD to PBR. M.
  3. They are two different Views (cameras) , so like the Full and Floor Camera, you may see Different things or even Past the Wall in question to other parts of the house depending on the Camera placement and the BackClip Distance. which camera you use will depend on what you want to achieve in the View.... if looking at Cabinets a Wall Elevation is Useful but sometime things like Electrical and Sloped Ceilings don't show , think of it like the Floor Camera, so use a Section Camera instead..... you may have found a Bug with the Hood too...post the plan and let someone look.... Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum (Toggle it on above where you make your Signature or are perhaps you are on the CA Mobile WebSite?
  4. Best to put Questions in the q&A as Eric said , so more people will find it. you can add pics easily with the Windows Snipping Tool, see my signature for how to do that below in green . 5. Hmmm thanks ..... getting Older sucks huh ?
  6. I'm not sure what you mean ? what is wrong with that Wall Elevation View ? ( except for Hood out the roof ) A Cross Section/Elevation will look different from a Wall Elevation , you may have the Roof Planes off in Wall Elevation but on in Cross Section/Elevation View though. Vies are all about the Active Display Options (ALDO) and what you see and don't see in any particular View. you can use Windows Snipping Tool to take Screen Images , see my Signature for how. The KB Article on Cathedral Ceiling just in case. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00471/creating-a-cathedral-ceiling.html
  7. The "rings" are due to Ambient Occlusion and how Older AMD Cards handle it ...CA reported in another thread ( above) , that they were trying to find a fix for it.....
  8. X8, I think, did away with Final View. I meant the Edge Smoothing when Idle setting , not the Final View that was in X8
  9. Fill in your system specs in your signature ( see mine) ....I suspect you have an Older AMD Video Card , they have known issues in X10 with Ambient Occlusion. M.
  10. I'll say you can't , that's how it is designed to work...... but what 3 views ?
  11. They have changed many of the material etc so they look better in the new PBR View but are still updating the Libraries as fast as they can..... see the Lets PBR thread and the settings in Post no#43 for that setup. RayTracing does not look good any longer either due to the material Changes made for PBR views. M.
  12. The User Guide ( get x9 one if needed ) steps you through the process and the Tutorial guide is similar but in more Depth and takes you through building a home. Some Sage old advice I copied and saved years ago too : CA Drawing Order QuickTip.pdf
  13. Because Vector Views use the Colour under Pattern in the Material definition and Standard Views Use the Texture (picture) on the Texture tab in the Material Definition , which you can view easily with the Rainbow Tool , usually in the top RH Corner of your Toolbar in any Camera View. M.
  14. Try turning on "Edge Smoothing while Idle" in the Camera Defaults or in the Camera View itself in the Edit Camera DBX. If that doesn't help you'll need to provide examples so people can help Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. 15. Ok thanks Eric , now I know why some people don't see my Signature I thought it was cos they were using the Mobile Website here is mine Chief5Me
  16. In X10 don't we have Room Divider and Room Divider_2 by Default in Wall Types or did I already do what Michael suggested and make a copy at 0.01" ( changes to 0" on dbx close) M.
  17. Perhaps your wall(s) isn't quite aligned with the Doorway? it seems to work for me okay ...Post your plan and someone will look otherwise...
  18. There are Shiplap sidings in the Core Library but it is best to get into the habit of changing the Wall Definition rather that "Painting" Walls, weird things can happen with Painting Walls especially on Exteriors. Open the Wall Definition Tool , make a Copy of the Closest Wall you have, to the one you want and then Change the Interior or Exterior Wall material to another one in the Library , Under Siding eg Lite Grey Shiplap Below. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. 19. Courtesy of @glennw How to do it on a Mac with High Sierra Open Finder. Right click on the type of file you want to open (any .plan file) and click "Get Info". Go down to "Open With". Select Chief X10. Click "Change All". Don't see "Change All" When you first right click on a .plan file and that dbx opens, DON'T click Open With up at the top. Go further down and click on Get Info. A dbx like the attached pic will open. Have a look down about half way and you will see another Open With and a Change All box. Also you can With a .plan file hi-lighted in a Finder window you can also get there by going File...Get Info. Info from this Post https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17314-why-does-x9-open-and-not-x10/?do=findComment&comment=145236
  20. Alan had the same Issue last week and Tech Support have sent it to the developer for a fix , he suggested using a molding line instead.
  21. SketchUp has a Free CheckUp tool , it may give you more information about whether your VideoCard is okay or not for Chief too. https://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000318
  22. It's not a Bug , it a new Feature , so to turn it off for all Doors including Doorways .......Open that Doorway and under Options, select Hide Top Edge. Select Automatic to display wall surface lines only when the selected door is a Doorway. • Select Show Top Edge to display wall surface lines regardless of the door type. • Select Hide Top Edge to not show wall surface lines regardless of door type.
  23. Strange it would seem my Forums Emails stopped this morning sometime , there are 4-5 replies in this thread alone I wasn't notified about.... Per the above have you asked the Countertop Fabricator if they can Router out the lip around the Sink hole , so the exposed edge is only 3/4 ? would seem do-able to me. To say the Documentation on PBR is Sparse is a understatement , a big one...there is not a single Reference to Physical Based Rendering in the Reference Manual , nothing in the online Knowledge Base and Still only one Video , which I suspect use Our settings from the Forum PS. EVGA offers extended warranties for the 1st 90 Days Graham $20 I think to extend it to 5yrs , $30 for 10yrs. Their Video Cards used to come with a lifetime Warranty , which was why I initally bought them years ago. I don't think the StepUp Program will be much use to you , since you said the 1060 is the most your computer can handle.
  24. I believe so. Here is another one. http://planetpixelemporium.com/tutorialpages/light.html I made a Light Source Values Chart for myself from PlanetPixel, so here is the PDF if someelse can use it too. Real World Light Sources in RGB Numbers.pdf
  25. Told you your Clients were better ...mine would only get a Malbec The Glass looks great , but the Bottle seems to be a red material that isn't giving the same look as the glass was all I meant . Never been a Fan of the Ogee Counter Edge myself , and you are right it can look bad if the joint isn't done well and is really thin. It's one of the Reasons I like 1 1/4" / 3cm Quartz these days. M.
