  1. Probably best you Tag Joe with his Username @Joe_Carrick Or try PM him ......
  2. This is doable with the Roof built off the Porch wall , as a 2 - Pitch Roof using the in from Base line Setting set to the Depth of the Porch....... and a lower pitch say a 1/2 pitch of the main roof so 3:12 and 6:12 for the main Roof in this case below. X15 Plan to look at : MHD_2 Pitch Roof off Porch Wall.plan Mick.
  3. Oh , Chief actually has a similar KB Articles (below) I thought you meant the physical switch many Nvidia Cards have, which is actually the GPU Bios switch to either enable OC (overclock mode) or Silent Mode. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03140/forcing-chief-architect-programs-to-use-a-specific-graphics-card-in-windows-10-11.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03140/forcing-chief-architect-programs-to-use-a-specific-graphics-card-in-windows-10-11.html
  4. Other than DB comment which I'd check 1st ( you can ignore Alan's switch joke ) but there is a known issue with the 14900k for many people, not just Chiefer's , many gamers too , I had issues at 1st with mine and had to make some adjustments in the Bios. Let me see if I can find the thread on Chief where it was discussed by a couple of us...... Here you go...... this is some posts on reddit I found later and work for me... M.
  5. Yes a roof or second story, I suggest making your SOP to add an Auto Foundation and Auto Roof to every build , Chief's "Lighting" engine needs them to calculate how the Light "bounces" around the scene. At times you may c=see the opposite effect and light bleeding under furniture and Cabinets hence the auto foundation..... M.
  6. I believe so from 1 page in the 2023 version, so likely multiple Plans files will be needed. M.
  7. Kbird1

    Angle

And turned ON in Preferences too......not sure it on by Default?
  8. Repost over Here : https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ M.
  9. Make sure in the 3D camera to turn ON the Framing Wall's Layer or you wont see the 3D Studs and Plates. M.
  10. Try drawing the Landing 1st, with the Straight Deck Edge Tool (invisible railing) and make the "Room" created a Deck, you can use the ALT Key to draw a staircase down when needed too. M.
  11. Auto framing can slow things down (especially if a Schedule is used?) as can Fills with huge numbers of CAD lines too. M.
  12. Try using the Wall Elevation Camera , if you want to limit it to the Room only and not show a Cross Section........ It's also good practice to put a Auto Foundation and Roof on a Building , even if not drawing the whole house, this helps with the way Chief's "Astral" Lighting engine works especially in PBR Camera Views, so there is no weird "light bleed". M.
  13. There is way to many variables, to give up on any of them after 1 session, it may not even be Meet, it could be your or your client's ISP or perhaps slow WIFI, an Eth. cable direct to your router will almost always be faster and more stable too ( though it's getting closer these days with Wifi 6e and Now Wifi 7). Personally in the last 3 months I've only have trouble with Zoom, we switched to Teams which worked fine. M.
  14. I agree with all the above comments from Eric and DB but to add one , if your Walls ( fence )is not on one of Chief's 15° (or 7.5°) presets" add you own Allowed Angle Preset under : Defaults > Plan > Allowed Angles which you can copy and paste out of any of the mention Wall DBX's
  15. Each time this has happened to me it has been because the Sender did not give me Permission to View and Edit the File before sharing it..... for Regular Clients I have them make a Dedicated Folder on GD and share that with me, not individual files , it works well , I think I pay $20/yr for a 100Gb Plan as these days Google adds your Photos on the Free 15GB Data Allotment, so if you have an android Phone, that can really cut down on the Storage. Personally I don't use GD or OD as my only Backup of Data, I don't like how OneDrive is so intrusive in Win11 cos even with GB Internet it really slows things down. M.
  16. I don't disagree , a 3080 is no slouch, at least as far as chief goes , and I doubt you'd be absolutely wowed by the change as I mentioned, perhaps see what X16 brings? I did it cos I wanted too and I wasn't buying a whole machine like above, I swapped out the MoBo and CPU and went to a 360 AIO for the 14900k. The 4080 Super was on a whim and a "want" not a need .... and it certainly pushes more pixels faster than my 3080Ti, but I don't notice that in Chief only elsewhere. I mostly use Teams or Meet nowadays as most clients are in the M$ or Google Camp nowadays and they are "included" depending on your plan. M.
  17. The same MoBo and CPU I have now , you could definitely save some money there though , a 4080 Super is about 1/2 the cost of the 4090 currently and is only about 10-15% slower generally , but if you need the 24GB of RAM on the 4090 for TM/PS etc there are only a few options. You can likely use a 1000w PS too quite comfortable as well. There is nothing wrong with the Noctua Coolers but I know personally that some careful research on options for the Cooler, including AIO's on a 14900k is critical , it is a HOT CPU. Oh and nice work above too M.
  18. I do it this way as well ..... a couple of notes..... Always pull the Elevation Regions / Lines / Roads etc. beyond the edge of the Terrain Perimeter (TP) , and don't let them "snap to it" , this helps stop the "jaggies" at the edges of the TP and for Roads it cuts off the Curb that Chief's Roads auto adds to all 4 edges. Rather than a separate file for the Terrain to Show Clients Options , I'd just do a "Save As" _Option A , "Save As"_Option B from the Main Plan and make the changes there. M.
  19. I agree, always a good starting point , make sure to set your Wall Roof Directives ( WRD's) first ie Gable. High Gable etc, the turn Auto-build on and check things out in 3D and fix or add WRD's as need while you still have Auto Build enabled......... should get you 65-85% of the way there , unless it's a simple rectangle then 100%. M.
  20. I'd like to develop a full 3D site plan. Good food for thought. Thanks! I also do it that way, Chief does not play well with "angled" Buildings, especially ones not on a common "angle preset" , hopefully in X16 there has been some improvements on the Terrain Module as it's been a Bear for years... but I find having dedicated Saved Plan Views ( incl. Default Set and Layers etc) for Terrain (Hardscape) and even a Landscape (and Planting) SPV makes things go better once Layout comes around. M.
  21. You can't use the Dialog box for that any longer as the Roof planes are Built already ( and auto off ).... You can click on any of your solid Orange lines ( I use dark pink easier to see ) and you should get a TEMPORARY measurement ( do you have them On?) back to the Main (Framing) layer of the wall , so you may need to take into account sheathing (and Siding?) when you click on the Temporary Dim. to set the required Overhang. Set the Pic below for other considerations when setting the Overhang......... ( and don't forget the F1 Key will bring up context sensitive Help while in any Dialog Box (DBX) ... ) M.
  22. Not sure what you did since you didn't share but editing the Wall Polyline in an Elevation camera, ie break where needed and pull bottom up in this case, same method as you would do a Stepped Foundation Wall, is how I've always done this. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/402/stepping-a-foundation.html?playlist=85 M.
  23. I'd go 1 step higher to the 4070 or 4070 Super if money is close as it got a memory upgrade over the original 4070. It will last you longer and uses less power so you Power supply maybe just fine with it..... ( most 4000 series use less power (wattage) than their 3000 Series cousins) Mick.
  24. Check some of the Tutorials as you simply can't choose a Paper size and force it to print a Title Block at that size, it would break the "scale" of the drawings. You will need to open a new Layout and alter the Title Block so it fits on a 13x19 page.... before you do that work you might want to check that your local jurisdiction will accept 13x19 "Prints", some only accept 24x36 ..... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02862/resizing-a-layout-title-block-and-border.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00737/creating-and-using-layout-templates.html M.
