I'd like to know more on how you did that Glenn if you have the time, even if Scott is now happy apparently. Thanks. M.

Why does CA get slower and slower the more I use it? [SOLVED]
Kbird1 replied to StevenJ's topic in Tips & Techniques
Just a Note on Using Ram Drives with CA , I set one up last week as a Test after reading this thread, but they will stop the Library Update working properly , as evidenced by my self and Roland who found the Issue here : (***switching the Temp drive back to a HDD for the Update works to fix this) -
Thanks for the Reply Roland , I will try that too as I just setup a 2GB RamDrive after seeing a Post here on the Forums last week , and had not noticed any issues with it's use so far, but wasn't sure if the Library slowness opening is associated to the Ram Drive or the New CA X10 Update? Update **** That was it Roland , so thanks for posting would never of figured that out...****

Thanks Tedv , always nice to have a another symbol in the Library , you should perhaps Post it in the Symbols Forum too for Future Users, looking for a Pool. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum so you need to Toggle it on in UserName>Account >Signatures...... go to the Upper RH Corner of Forum Window. Mick.

Have you fully or partially made the switch to PBR?
Kbird1 replied to DanDearborn's topic in General Q & A
At a guess I said that back when Ray Tracing in X10 had many issues with the New Materials made for PBR not working well in Ray trace eg no reflections etc , there are still some Issues , and like Graham I have not done many RT's lately as in most circumstances PBR is enough and I've found the lighting in PBR easier to work with , even though it is not Perfect yet . I am far from an expert on either Method honestly , on those matters I humbly defer to Graham. (TheKitchenAbode) I would say download the X10 Upgrade ( save a copy of the last X9 installer 1st) and run both side by side and do some tests of the same plan file in both ( make a "Save As_x10 version file 1st ) and have a play when you have time , the "kinks" in X10 Materials are slowly working there way out as they slowly update all the Core Libraries , though I think there are still issues with the Sun Intensity and Lumen settings , as well as colour "transfer" from backgrounds and other items in the view in PBR. Just doing my Weekly Catalog Check , since I know CA is regularly Updating Catalogs with new Material for PBR and Raytracings but although CA does the Whole Update process, and then downloads the Armstrong Library , the Process fails at 99% and I get an Error that I have limitied Internet connectivity or a Firewall issue and there has been an error. I just downloaded a 3.6GB file from FutureMark . so I don't think the issue is my internet connectivity , and email and the Forum is working Fine , so I am just wondering if anyone else is seeing the Error? PS i did try multiple times and restarted CA as well..... thx. M.

If it is not the Reflections Toggle , I would assume you are using the Old Chief Mirror Material , not the Newer one, which now gives true Reflections unless you try Reflecting a Mirror in a Mirror then it may grey out ? at least I don't think that changed in X10 but I haven't tried it. M.

Looks like it worked out well M.

Nope , it has always been this way in Chief and why there are numerous Threads on Fascia Mounted Railings , GlennW came up with the invisible layer Offset , 2-3 years ago , at least that was when he shared it in a thread of Mine but there was a recent Thread on this too, about a month ago , see below. The "Offset" setting is for those times you want the Rails to pass over the Posts , not in-between them. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17243-railings/?do=findComment&comment=144845

Well it seems that Rob beat me to it Neal, ( told you there are lots of helpful people here ) and likely did a better Job than me too, I had forgotten about Gimp actually.... hopefully His file will get the job done for you. M.

OOPS not so fast(almost solved w Update 20.2.0.51) X10 with an Intel card
Kbird1 replied to MarkMc's topic in General Q & A
Are you both talking about 23.20.16.4982 ? (Intel Download was Win64_15.65.5.4982) They seem to be working correctly with my HD 630 with 20.2 , they didn't with 20.1.1.1 , ie multi-coloured fireflies everywhere but no SEH crashes like earlier Drivers / X10 version Combos. M. -
Huh? 1.5 inchs not 1.5 feet .... not sure what else you are doing cos it seems to work here ? see cross section above too... the foundation is 3" each way smaller than the house.... I just drew a 20'x40' box and set the Siding 6 wall definition to have a 1 1/2 " offset ( - 1 1/2" works too )
-
I'd try Google and see if there is a free Converter for DXF to STEP M.
-
Tech Support Told me they are aware of the Issue , but the more reports they get the better I'd think. M.
-
Do you mean the MFG. Home overhangs the foundation by 1 1/2 inches? then you would just set the Foundation Offset to 1 1/2" on the Default exterior Wall definition and it would do it Auto.

That was one reason I thought it might be the Firewall as I know Win10 has the Built-in One, ( along with windows Defender) however I am not conversant with OSX or Macs in general , Most Routers also have Built in Firewalls of some Kind too. If it was the Activation Server I'd had thought more people would have the Issue.... M.

Move manually-drawn piers from level 1 to level 0
Kbird1 replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
It is the issue I said above, the Foundation Piers need a ground beam or foundation wall then you can copy and paste (hold position) to level 0....but it doesn't look right , I'm not actually sure how you added Piers to a framed Walled like that.... so better to delete them and drawn your own like under the deck.... or copy and paste them from the deck... -
I guess I missed that in the Materials list doing a quick scan through.... The HVAC Unit is sticking though the Kitchen wall by the door to the garage though , so I think it's CAD Block must be incorrect , unless you have one H*** of a lightening storm there? M.
-
Still abit strange if that Colour isn't used in the rest of the House...
-
Someone has too and that's a thick coat of Paint
-
looks like you painted or change the Material to Behr Ostrich (W-F-410 - OSTRICH) somehow.

Move manually-drawn piers from level 1 to level 0
Kbird1 replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
I think Piers need a Foundation Wall ( Containing Object?) and it be set to use the Grade Beams and Piers type......unless you draw your Own Piers with P-Solids? But not an error message I have seen before..... in the past I have drawn my own as the Grade Beam Default foundation was too limiting. M. -
I don't have the Issue but I wonder if it is a Firewall Issue ? ie The Chief Program is not be allowed to send Data to the Chief Activation Server , which it has to do once every 10-14 days I believe.

There are issues with the new update if you export in PNG or any other Transparent File type (eg TIF) , perhaps this is something similar?

Most people are Using PBR Larry , but there has been issues with Black areas in Raytrace in X10 if the Terrain Perimeter is really large. IIRC Melissa ( User @pgjacob ) had this Issue recently if you search Her Topics I think you'll find it. ***found one of Her Posts.... M.
