Gawdzira
Dear Graphaphobe, So you posed a question full of words, numbers, relationships and other miscellaneous information and the first response asks you to post some images and the plan file, why? Speaking from personal experience, I am not the best mathematician in most rooms unless we are doing geometry. Geometry is pictures and shapes. I like pictures. Either drawing them or looking at them. When it comes to buildings and architectural elements words don't do a lot for me. When I see a question posted on this forum that is highly detailed with 24" overhang here and truss heel there, with some room elevation change 46" away from zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. This takes me to Algebra class and I am not sure if it is south west style or a train headed south west at 59 miles per hour. In conclusion, when it comes to describing an issue while working with a visual representation tool (Chief Architect) a visual representation of the issue is good. Algebra is bad. CJSpud
I agree. According to the common core of logic, 1 + 2 can = anything as long as you have a good reason for your answer, regardless of how good it looks. Please post a picture of your problem and maybe Scott will do a video for you!!! Is that you on the left or right in your gravatar? PS: I am the one in the middle of mine. 3 days in a row on ChiefTalk .... whoopeee!!

Rosco2017
One of these days, I hope to be honored by one of Scotts videos...Lol. I've learned not to watch them in waiting rooms or around children, but I always watch the video's he posts because sometimes the Chief videos tend to put me to sleep and his videos are the best. When you watch Scott's videos, your significant other tends to say (or mine at least) "Did he just say what I think he just said?" Keep up the good work Scott. His slogan should read "Never a dull video" LOL

Alan ( X * 2/Y = Z+4) Lehman Something just occurred to me while reading your post... It seems almost ridiculous that you would have to explain the need for posting pictures (or a plan) to people who are only here because they are using Chief for just that...TO DRAW PLANS...pictures and visual representations for the sole purpose of illustrating something. Someone drawing plans is the last person who should need to be told why words aren't enough.

BryceEngstrom
This reminds me of clients that leave these long-winded voice mails, or even e-mails, describing the design revisions they would like to see, consistently mis-using the few architectural terms in their vocabulary and making very little sense. There is a reason they say a picture says a thousand words, especially to graphically minded people. People are so afraid to send any kind of sketch or diagram to their architect because they "don't know how to draw", but most can say what they want to say with a 1/2" thick black marker on a small scale floor plan on 8.5x11 paper infinitely more clearly than they can describe it in words. Makes me nuts sometimes.

DavidJPotter
Before Man developed language he drew pictures and made jestures. Then came symboligic language (writing) so visuals are primary and symbolic language is secondary, which are tied to specific instance deffinitions and as such as Bryce mentioned capable of not conveying the intended understanding. Primary knowing is based upon one's senses, even an illiterate person can understand visuals in most cases. Human communication is mostly taken for granted and not really very well understood. It makes a difference in terms of getting something done and gaining another's understanding and assistance. DJP
