  1. 8 Seconds of mayhem? http://www.pbr.com/ Or perhaps try this link. https://www.marmoset.co/posts/physically-based-rendering-and-you-can-too/
  2. In the only plumbing plan I ever made I used a combination of elbows and tees from the 3D Warehouse with Cylinders for the pipe sections. I found them much easier to manipulate than moldings and you can easily change diameters if needed.
  3. It would be nice if Chief would let us select an area of a camera view to ray trace. Like the Windows Snipping Tool just drag a box to define the view. Until that happens you can use a window like the Library Browser to adjust the shape of your ray trace camera view to any orientation you desire.
  4. I believe the best approach is to open the X4 plan in X9. Then before you do any work on it, do a "Save As" and give the plan a different name (like whatever+X9 Version). This way you will still retain the X4 version should you ever need to open it in X4 again, and you also have a copy you can go forward with in X9.
  5. So, I think what you are saying is that "I have tried everything" actually means "I haven't tried anything". Yes, English certainly Is an interesting language.
  6. Hi Diane, are you sure that the lights aren't there? Try taking a camera view of the top of the cabinets. It looks to me like what you are seeing is the light shining on the ceiling. By default those puck lights are set to Spot lights. Try changing them to Point lights and backing the Intensity way down (like to about 5%). In the attached image the cabinets on the right have Spot lights on the top and on the cabinet on the left they have been changed to Point lights.
  7. I don't know what to say? Dude, you are so far out there that I'm going need a telescope to keep up. I'd like to say that I followed the whole process, but it's going to take more than one shot to digest all that material. I'm going to have to let that sink in for a while and then take another look. Thanks for making me feel so inadequate.
  8. I didn't save the original plan but it's easy to reproduce. I made a room from 4 interior walls and placed a table (Iron Frame Table) and vase (Sphere Vase) from the Library Browser into the room (Image-1). I changed the interior wall material from Drywall to the color Sand and changed the material of the table frame and vase to Copper Polished (Image-2). Image-3 shows the material settings for Copper Polished. Image-4 shows the Ray Trace and Image Property settings and Image 5 is the final cropped image. .
  9. Not me Lew. I'm for the rest of the world going to Imperial.
  10. It would help if you gave us a screen shot of your unsatisfactory results. Here are a couple of stock items from the Library Browser with their materials set to: Core Catalogs/Materials/Metals/Copper/Polished. They look "shiny" to me.
  11. That woman can get better results with 10 year old software than 95% of the users can with the latest & greatest versions. Chapeau! JoAnn.
  12. That's some very handy info Chris. Funny how we can dabble with a search engine and never really take the time to learn how to most efficiently access the mountains of information available there. Properly used this could put the forum out of business.
  13. It's a little thing but it has been bugging me no end. How do you make the baseboard continue under the toe kick of a base cabinet?
  14. Sorry, that's all I got. Maybe one of the Mac crowd will weigh in. It's a lot more cumbersome, but couldn't you copy the content and close the 1st instance and then open the 2nd instance and paste into that one?
  15. I'm not a Mac guy but have you tried holding down the Command key while launching the second instance?
  16. If you have the time you can create the pattern using psolids with a tile material. Once you have created one instance of the pattern you can block it and copy it to create a larger area.
  17. Who says that you can't achieve "photo quality" Ray Traces with Chief? I would be willing to wager that the creator's of Chief never imagined that this image would be generated with their software.
  18. If one was a beta tester on the last version do they have to send in a new request for X10?
  19. Dave, I find your proficiency both inspirational and annoying. +1
  20. I've been repeating this until I'm blue in the face (well actually green in the face). All this aftermarket stuff is great but not germane to a Chief software forum. What is germane is anything that leads to improved results with Chief software. I don't think you can argue the point that starting with the best possible image from Chief will yield the best results when taking it to post production software. If I were a moderator I would remove all these non Chief type of posts. If you want to see how Chief would import to a post production software I would suggest that you log into one of their forums and ask what is the best way to import a Chief file.
  21. You guys are killing me. I would hope that that there are programs out there that can produce outstanding results, but this is a Chief forum. I am all about achieving the best possible results using Chief software. If you want to go somewhere else fine but, let's focus on what's possible with Chief.
  22. lol! Reminds me of the old adage: There's no such thing as a free puppy.
  23. According to this link, no. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00027/what-operating-systems-does-chief-architect-run-on.html
  24. Can't say about the 4K display functionality and your hardware setup but you should also consider operating system requirements. According to this link: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00027/what-operating-systems-does-chief-architect-run-on.html X2 will only run on Windows XP, Vista and 7. You may have some issues getting full functionality out of your 4K display with Windows 7.
  25. If you want to control your operating system then go back to Windows 7. If you don't care if Microsoft controls every aspect of your operating system then go with Windows 10.
