Custom Material Generation with Substance Player
Rich_Winsor replied to Chief_Content's topic in Symbols and Content
Can these tools generate a seamless material that can be applied to a 3D Sphere? I have been having a play with creating a globe from a 3D sphere with a world map applied as a material. Actually turned out better than I had expected. Then today I was watching some world cup soccer and they showed this close up of the ball they were using. Is there a way to generate a 2d texture of stars that can be seamlessly applied to a sphere? -
As Scott suggests your Daytime Backdrop Intensity of 12000 is way too high. Also you have Brightness almost pegged @ 98.9. I would try dropping the DBI to 50 and the Brightness back to 0 and see where it takes you. I would also lower the sunlight you are using for the camera view. Once you get the the backdrop dialed in you can then use the rendering technique tools to the adjust the interior. You should also have a play with manually adjusting the exposure for more control. I like to get the image slightly underexposed (darker) and the lighten or brighten (overexpose) it to taste. You also need to consider aerial perspective in a situation like this. Distant objects look lighter softer and hazier. How sharp do the hills look in the actual backdrop image? Can you use a sharper image? Just a few things to consider. Good Luck

It's a little appreciated fact that roof planes can be shaped like 3D Solids using Chief's Boolean tools. @Bill_Emery taught me this technique about 10 years ago. Create a 3D Solid containing the curve you want the roof to follow. Over lap the two where you want the roof cut and using Solid Subtraction select the roof plane and subtract the 3D Solid from it.

I feel your pain and not to be flip, but what "purchase to own" options with Chief's capabilities are there really available to us at this point. Subscriptions have become the way of life. For Pete's sake my Primary Health Care Physician has put me on a subscription service. I now pay him whether I'm in need of his services or not. Seems like a big stretch of the Hippocratic Oath and I don't think Chief took any oaths. Resistance is futile.

How to create Skylight connecting wall window
Rich_Winsor replied to Costyler's topic in General Q & A
For more response this question is best posted in the General Q & A Forum. That being said you can get what you want by notching the roof plane back to the wall surface where the window will be. Install the skylight into the roof plane and the window into the wall plane and with a little futzing around you can get them to work together. -
About 5 years ago I took a shot at modeling a VersaTube metal building kit we assembled here on the property. It was modeled completely using Molding Polylines. It was a major PITA. I even used Molding Polylines to create the steel siding as well. Currently I've been modeling a 40' x 50' metal shop kit we are preparing to assemble. Having learned my lesson with the Molding Polylines this time I modeled the building frame completely from 3D solids. I just modeled cross sections of the steel members and converted them to 3D Solids. Instead of extruding the beams just set the length you need in the 3D Solid Specification DBX. I made a 1 layer Wall Type 1/2" thick using Red Ribbed Metal for the material. Cladding the steel frame with this wall type encloses the structure and creates a Room so Doors, Windows, Roofs etc. can be modeled normally. Good Luck.

And I was thinking about dumping Intel after all these years in favor of AMD. https://share.google/uRe4apyR8pb0YkegU

Really like the A-frame render Eric. Lots of nice things going on there. I am however seeing some sort of strange skinny vertical spike going from the top border of the image down to the right side of the A-frame roof. Never seen anything quite like that before.

Glass cabinet doors in upper part of stacked look cabinet

Nepotism is great as long as you keep it in the family. BTW CCooper, what were you doing on November 24, 1971? Just wondering? -
Have you had a look at the Herringbone Materials in the Library? They have Herringbone Materials in both Flooring and Tile: Core Catalogs/Materials/Flooring/Wood Flooring/Herringbone Bonus Catalogs/Materials Tiles Basics/Herringbone Tile

Subtracting 3d solids getting weird results

This could be one of those occasions where it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Seems to be working for me. I created Elevation 1 and drew a 3D Solid across the wall. Used the Add Break tool to create the openings for the doors and windows. In Plan View I copied the 3D Solid, rotated it 90 degrees and positioned it against the end wall. Created Elevation 2 and selected the 3D Solid. All the edit handles were available and I reshaped the 3D Solid to fit the end view.

So I downloaded and installed X17. I opened a simple plan I had handy. When I opened a Perspective Full Overview Camera my rig started to labor. The fans started running full blast and the system temps took off. It took a long time to generate a simple Standard image and when it did this is what I got. Has anybody else been getting this behavior?

showing flooring texture/placement in PLAN view
Rich_Winsor replied to QuickDraw59's topic in General Q & A
Have a play with the Fill Style in the Room Specification DBX. -
Couple of things. Shadows don't seem to be on in your Standard View and you might want to play with the sun angle to better highlight the shutters.

@reedie2000You should take a look at @joey_martin's Con Docs. -
Hey, I resemble that remark.

It looks like you have a serious light bleed situation. Do you have a roof over that room and a foundation?
