Why does Chief's own print driver create such large files?
lbuttery replied to Ridge_Runner's topic in General Q & A
I can't say it is the best as I haven't tried the rest but I still use PDF995 which use to come with Chief I paid the $9.95 or was it $19.95 to get the entire suite of tools (which I rarely use being retired) and to stop getting the pop-up ads (never were that annoying) I create PDF's for my historical research for web captures and saving orders and a zillion other reasons Lew -
my $.02 get Chief Premier if you are going to be in business .... if you can't afford it the options above are good ones if it doesn't work out and you have a current license it can be listed for sale here for about 20% off list price Chief retains good resale value Lew

Looking to finish a plan/pay for one-on-one training (x9)
lbuttery replied to harrisd's topic in Seeking Services
Harris: just curious in this house in Fairfield County near Silvermine CT ? I just came back from a family research mission - the Buttery clan had the Buttery Sawmill from 1856 - 1955 it was built in 1741 - oldest and longest running sawmill in US Lew -
I think after about 2 weeks Chief will need to contact the mother ship you will get some warnings and then eventually it will stop working via the software lock not sure but this may also be a requirement for the hardware lock ??? Lew

Different versions of for example "bathrooms"
lbuttery replied to KoenColen's topic in General Q & A
if your goal is just to show bathrooms and not the whole house put option #2 on floor 2 and option #3 on floor 3 chief allows for 30 floors or just put them on the same floor - room after room after room just like a live gallery Lew -
Print to PDF distorts portions of the drawing
lbuttery replied to StudConstruction's topic in General Q & A
always use the "Chief Architect Save as PDF" rather than another PDF output source This should not be necessary any PDF creation software should work if it doesn't report it to CA's tech support Lew- 11 replies

Would like to see them introduce that IFC compatibility to enhance on their BIM Chris: I have been suggesting/requesting this for over 12 years now good luck on getting CA to listen Lew

I agree there are many variables, and too many to program each one as a possibility. However, id suggest for a 2D foundation plan view 90% of the time the top of the pad along the footing matches in flush - so at least having the option like RL said would be simple and smart. Johnny: I agree, whenever there is a "common" "standard" method that covers 80%+ situations then Chief should handle it via the dbx's as settings or options etc Chief can't handle "every" situation but it should handle the "basics" Lew

CA has stated many times - the more cores the better Lew

what do you use for topo measuring in the field?
lbuttery replied to Lighthouse's topic in General Q & A
Johnny: Holy S**t !!! wow that is impressive I can use this big time for my friend to model Niagara Falls and Goat Island where my ancestor built Terrapin Tower and the Niagara Whirlpool and gorge where another ancestor built the Buttery Elevators Yippee thanks for posting Lew -
what do you use for topo measuring in the field?
lbuttery replied to Lighthouse's topic in General Q & A
I think DIY isn't worth the liability Why liability ? you should never represent yourself as a "surveyor" disclaimer or contract should clearly statement "any/all measurements are for planning purposes only" "if accuracy beyond planning is needed, please consult a surveyor" but yes, they would probably have the best equipment if you have the desire to do this type of site work then check into how much the proper equipment costs check into zip level - that may work for you ??? I have a builders grade rod and would put the disto on a monopod or tripod and shoot to the grade rod to get basic "ballpark" heights check out methods to do "triangular irregular networks" TIN never oversell your skills Lew -
deleting prior versions is NOT suppose to happen if it did happen then "something" went wrong contact CA's tech support and they will advise If you can't wait try re-installing X8 you should be able to have them both installed on the same PC and run them at the same time I used to have many prior versions installed on the same PC David Potter has "every" version installed to at least Chief 8 and all of the versions and prior versions of the HD products Lew

How Do We Get a Material List for Framing a Remodel
lbuttery replied to Renerabbitt's topic in General Q & A
Glenn: that type of cutlist has nothing to do with milling lumber it is used to optimize cutting lumber efficiently especially 4 x 8 sheets Lew -
How Do We Get a Material List for Framing a Remodel
lbuttery replied to Renerabbitt's topic in General Q & A
the fist one looks like it works in cross section Glenn: not a cross-section but an "optimization" or "efficiency" of cuts to not waste material Lew -
