WOW !!! $1700 !!! if that truly is the cost then by all means buy a new PC I suspect you should shop around and find another tech and at least verify it will be in the $1700 range your specs seem decent so you could cannibalize the old PC for ram and video card etc take the old HD have it put into an external USB case for an extra drive same with CD/DVD player save the power supply strip it clean Lew

Adam: check out Hometalk but HD PRO users can benefit from following Chieftalk also as HD PRO has man manual features just be aware of PRO's limitations when trying tips/tricks etc Lew

Question 1: why do you need to be certified ? Question 2: have you reviewed the list of videos on CA's website ? Question 3: can you create models now ? if not, then create many models of houses first before worrying about certification Question 4: have you taken any of CA's classes - especially the Intermediate and Advanced ? BUILDING & LINKING STAIRS W. TWO SEPARATE PLANS
lbuttery replied to interiorarch's topic in General Q & A
Johnny: sorry, but no joy with Chief 9.5 and earlier while each floor was a separate file .pl0 .pl1, .pl2 - .pl9 they were considered one plan I believe all the "overall" plan info was stored in .pl1 file no ability that I ever heard of to swap out alt3.pl2 for alt4.pl2 Lew -
BUILDING & LINKING STAIRS W. TWO SEPARATE PLANS
lbuttery replied to interiorarch's topic in General Q & A
Open both Plan A and Plan B In Plan A (with floor 1) - create blank 2nd floor select Plan B and use the Edit Area tool to copy the entire floor select plan A and go to 2nd floor and paste plan B using point to point IF both plans have the same origin you could use paste hold position instead of point to point you will probably have to edit or rebuild the stairs between the floors Lew i -
Combine, merge and/or importing multiple CA drawings
lbuttery replied to No1ZZTopfan's topic in General Q & A
I feel more comfortable (not being a Chief Master) to keep each house in a separate plan then create a 3D symbol of each one house and store in the library then create a master plan with all the terrain etc and place each house symbol in place as needed very easy to move the houses around and place as needed Lew -
Sketchup can do 360 views also Lew

yes, absolutely no issues that I know of Lew

David: contact CA's tech support on Monday to see if they can help as a 30 yr former programmer I learned to do my own save as along with any auto-archiving when in heavy design mode I may do save as every 5 minutes - certainly as I finish each task especially those I don't want to do over Lew

Ben: I was scoping this type of software when I was in business never used this one but it seemed interesting and inexpensive PRO version is on sale for $99 but there are lower versions too https://www.turboproject.com/products/turboproject-professional/ Lew

Rene: nice to know and will check out that route not the same as going directly from Chief Lew

not that I know of but it would be nice I have some projects where this would be a nice feature to have Lew

I've been using a 37" tv since 2008 I have it set about 8' away and I have it set for 720P due to my eyes I think it works fine for chief clients were able to sit back and see it without having to sit shoulder to shoulder I wasn't able to use HDMI or DVI back in 2008 someday I will replace it it has a fairly large dead area due to a ceiling light in a prior apartment it bugs me sometimes but not enough to replace it be aware of intense lighting hitting the screen - it can kill pixels Lew

my worry with the auto-rebuild features is if manual work has been done I wouldn't want that wiped out is there a way to protect manual work ? Lew
-
Hi: depends on definition of "decent speed" In the past I had a $2000+ rule when I bought a new PC I generally looked for top of line and then backed down a step or two as I like to get 4-5 years lifespan of usability before needing to get a new PC to keep up Lew

it will require much manual effort to get perfection from the ML sometimes it is a simple task to build an ML for more complicated models and the more workarounds the more manual effort is needed Lew
-
I think F12 does Rebuild Walls/Floors/Ceilings . I used to hit it often when in design mode and moving stuff around Lew
-
Dave: I don't use the ML so no advice there while HDP users can benefit from following the Chieftalk forum since they have many of the same tools this forum is aimed at users of Chief Premier so understand that not all advice can be used by HDP - yet some can another forum to follow is the Hometalk forum which is aimed for users of the HD products also be aware that the ML is only as good as the model using work-arounds etc have an impact on the ML some ML users export to Excel and then continue to "massage" the info there Lew

you can probably find it in the manual I don't know what it represents - except you have a task that Chief thinks needs to be done Lew
-
Note: Chief can have 30 floors in a plan so putting the alternative options on another floor may be desirable ? it has been requested for over a decade that Chief allow for TOTAL layer control so that the model and various options reside in one plan besides layersets and annosets - Chief should have Plansets I believe Softplan has a feature that allows this Lew

I believe CA does "small" updates like this when they find and fix "something" that was "serious" and couldn't wait why this couldn't wait ??? Lew

Can you use photograph to virtual stage house for sale?
lbuttery replied to Fun2Learn's topic in General Q & A
Fun: I was licensed in 2008 and was thinking of offering staging services for real estate agents etc bottom line it would probably only be feasible for high-end houses modeling from photographs doesn't work you would have to build the model from scratch there are new devices that can take photos of rooms and create dimensions from them etc but again the cost $$$ Lew -
Willem: see my last post in your original thread Lew

If a question triggers a "wish list" item, put your suggestion where it belongs - in that forum. Then put a short note in the original post linking to that this is a good one for me to remember I ceased making suggestions long ago so now I wait until others indicate it is needed or desired and then I chime in mainly to reinforce it isn't "just little ol me" that found the need Lew
