  1. ok, I just checked the manual and that only works for ONE line my suggestion is that the dims should auto-magically follow when the object is moved Lew
  2. Michael: I guess I don't understand what that does ??? I checked it and set the distance to 12" then moved the rear fence to 48' and got the same long extensions ??? Lew
  3. when I moved the rear fence from 96' to 48' the dims stayed where they were it would be nice if they moved and maintained their relationship with the fence kinda looks silly with those super long extension lines is there a way to control this or should I make a suggestion for this issue ??? I know how to move them - but I shouldn't have to do that Lew 216_UPCHURCH_MODEL_170405_2155_LBX8.zip
  4. Ok, I found a fast and easy solution I had tried dropping gates in before starting this post but Chief wouldn't place them now I placed a section of fence from house to center post and center post to storage area I could then drop the gates in sized to 10' - for double - show in open position changed gate to "planked" style a few clicks and in and done I wish placing railings was that easy ... Lew
  5. ok, thanks I really don't want to mess with making a railing symbol not sure I remember how to do that ? place chief railing in a cad detail then make a symbol ? really amazed I can't just drop 4 railings in the plan and be done with it - sigh Chopsaw: I will try your suggestion more likely I will have my friend Joe do it Lew
  6. Michael: I think you meant the plan is at 1:1 scale the layout would usually be 1/4" or 1/8" scale Laura: If your layout is sized for 12 x 18 at 1/8" scale you can print at 200% for 1/4" on 24 x 36 all depends on what size your layout was created at Lew
  7. Chopsaw: I skimmed the video but not sure it address my issue of trying to place basic railings without having to be "perfect" about it IOW, I want to be able to drop 4 5' railings and be done no need for newels and balusters and top rails etc ??? 4 railings in and done is there something in the video I am missing ??? Lew
  8. I am trying to place 4 railings 5' each at the end of the carport I set them to 5' long and when I attach them to the house or the center post the length changes I touch them the length changes - very frustrating How the Hell do I get them to stay 5' long ??? and stay where I want them ??? I would like them to show in the "open" position I am just working on a draft of where the fencing, gates and railings might go for a house I am trying to buy I just want it quick and dirty - don't want to make it perfect - that will come if I actually buy the house any suggestions on how to place these railings and be able to tweak without mayhem ensuing ??? I only have the core libraries that come with Chief X8 is there a library I should consider downloading ? with X6 I flushed the 30,000+ symbols I had since I had retired Lew 216_UPCHURCH_MODEL_170405_1450_LBX8.zip
  9. Glenn/Michael: I forgot about ceiling break lines not sure if my partner Joe did that intentional or not this is a quickie plan for a house I am trying to buy we do the inspection on Friday and I wanted to determine where to put fencing etc I we close then I will get more accurate on the model Lew
  10. Graeme: thanks, I dropped the rough ceiling to match the ceiling and that did it I'll ask tomorrow why he had it that way Lew
  11. I know I'm rusty I can't figure out what the dashed lines in the carport area are for I have turned off every layer I could think of but ??? I would like to turn them off prefer not to delete them as my partner put them there but he is sleeping and I can't ask him why Lew 216_UPCHURCH_MODEL_170404_2350_LBX8.zip
  12. not being a Chief master I don't understand how I would build or re-build framing for one without affecting all 5 same for roofs and terrain and anything else that allows for auto building simply beyond my skill level to attempt that Lew
  13. seemlwss portability of a cloud service like Dropbox or ICloud Michael: I agree, I currently don't use Dropbox as I am retired from Chief and no need for my historical research at this time if I did it would only be for the primary projects I was working on at that time I have everything on a shirt pocket USB hard drive so I can take it anywhere I go Lew
  14. You don't need carbonite if you understand how to use iCloud. Michael: I suspect not - as I have 30,000+ files - almost 400 GB - for my history research as Perry stated Carbonite seems to be the way to go for massive backups Lew
  15. Hi: this forum is mainly for users of Chief Premier but all are welcome especially users of HD PRO there is the Hometalk forum for users of the other HD products does HD Suite allow you to create a floor manually ? if so, just create the second floor manually where needed using the autobuild will not work - unless you want to manually delete the unwanted floors In Chief Premier I prefer to create each building in a separate plan then create 3D symbols for them and then place those symbols in the Master site plan HD Suite does not have that capability Lew
  16. Warren: just curious as I don't use the "cloud" for much - I do have Carbonite isn't there "cloud" services available for PC's also ??? is there something special about the "Icloud" ??? I have a friend who is very happy with all her Apple devices and "Icloud" but I haven't really bothered to understand what it all does for her Surprisingly, since I started in 1978 I have never used an Apple device never put my hands on one to even try it I stayed with Commodore until they went bankrupt in 1994 and been PC ever since I was using PC's at work and didn't want the confusion of using two platforms since I have retired in 2012 I have stayed with the familiar PC still on Win7 as I don't like Win10 - I have had a Surface PRO for a year but rarely touch it I had planned to get it on with it while I was snowbirding in my cabin but keep putting it off maybe someday I will investigate the Apple world of things .... Lew
  17. Scott: it didn't say that ??? I just gave market share and said I - me - Lew like to stay mainstream Lew
  18. I bought my first computer (Commodore) in 1978 one rule to go by is to consider what software you want to run then buy the computer that runs that software also consider that Apple has about 25% of the market so I stay with PC's because it is mainstream do you really want to learn two OS's pick one or the other - but to be working on A then switch to B and go back and forth Lew
  19. Aaron: do you still need help ? a friend was out of town - but is now available Lew
  20. yes, a "save as" can also create a replica of the house I'm just stating the power of recordable macros think smaller about a task that has a number of steps do it once and record the clicks then in the future when you need to that task again to another house run the macro - done I think the "power" this would add to Chief would be immense hence my requests for over a decade - sadly Ruby is lamed and missing this feature Lew
  21. Chopsaw: it would be best to create a series of macros rather than one huge continuous one VBA has an editor and it is possible to remove errant clicks (actions) or to add additional clicks(actions) if one wants to delve into "programming" with modular macros you can delete that macro and re-do it until you like it if done carefully and properly it would then be possible to create a macro that ran all the module macros and voila - a replica of the house this would be handy for sub-divisions or plan sellers once the replica is created it could then be tweaked to add that sunroom or garage or ..... Lew
  22. Why don't you just figure out how to log the clicks for one job if we had a recordable macro feature like VBA does in Microsoft products this could be done if that macro was saved you could then run the macro and recreate that model "exactly" I have been asking for a recordable macro feature for over a decade given the limited attention being paid to Ruby I doubt if it will happen any time soon Lew
  23. "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind" Lew
  24. can you run other computer software well ??? Download the free demo then try modeling portions of your home I would say model the whole thing but you can't do saves with the demo so if you had to close the .plan you would lose all your work CA also offers a pay-as-you-go plan - so try it for a few months and see if you can model your house or a family members house etc if you can get that done and create a permit set worthy of submission within a month then you might have the needed computer skills if the whole thing overwhelms you then forget it Lew
