Sunny: when you bought X1 you should have received a CD key the dongles don't have the key they are they just to verify that you own the software and didn't get a hack from the internet etc it is illegal fro someone to sell their X1 CD key if they have upgraded to a newer version so to get an X1 CD key you would have to find someone sell their license and everything with it on ebay or elsewhere that license also needs to be transferred to you by CA and there is a fee - that fee can be $50 - $400 or more depending on if it is a primary or secondary license etc verify with CA before purchase if the license is valid or what the fee will be as for ver 10 since you have a license some kind soul could donate their key to you and it will work with your ver 10 license I donated mine a few years ago - I charged $5 for mailing again old licenses,discs,keys etc can't be sold if the license was upgraded at this point you may also want to consider buying X4 on Ebay - price should be reasonable I wouldn't buy anything older - avoid X3 - library system was wacky and required subscription which is no longer available Lew

I have been told by CA that there are no drivers that would work on Win 10 and if there were it would not work properly Alswell: this is probably true I think some have had some success but ... there are postings are running a virtual PC where you could have XP and Win7 and Win10 all on the same PC similar to dual booting but it makes the PC look like that OS dual booting is different - but I am not savvy to explain the difference with dual booting you have to shutdown OS A before starting OS B not sure a virtual PC's Lew

Alswell: you don't need a new key - you need drivers - and they probably don't exist even if you can find drivers for the old hasp key I seriously doubt if Chief ver 10 will work on Win 10 and if it does it probably won't work well find another XP PC or plan to upgrade Chief I would recommend X4 as a minimum if you can find one on Ebay Lew

I prefer to do my own "archives" so I do "save as" often sometimes every few minutes - other times after I finish a task I don't want to repeat as a former programmer it became a habit and I don't rely on auto-archives its nice they are there but I prefer to do my own Lew

but since they are unable to program their tools with every conceivable condition (even for simple situations), it ends up backfiring when you veer off their scripted course I favor standards, so I suspect CA could program for the 90% conditions (90 or 80 or 95 ???)
