  1. If you use AutoDims they will.
  2. Check the layer for cross section lines.
  3. Break the cross section line and move that half of it 4" so that it doesn't cut through the wall.
  4. Not to hi-jack...but was this Thane's office? I had the occasion to meet, and befriend Thane through the AIBD and here on ChiefTalk. Spent some time with him in Boston.
  5. That to me would be a BIG no-no...the window is displayed on the wrong floor and as sure as I am sitting here, that window will get framed into the first floor wall. I would add a note on the elevation that reads; ATTIC WINDOW xx" X xx" TO BE CENTERED IN ATTIC WALL W/ R.O. PER MFG INSTRUCTIONS. But that me...
  6. Are the labels in the center of the contour line? Hardcoded to be in the center point?
  7. Did you turn off AUTO JOISTS?
  8. BTW...placing a bearing beam or wall will also trigger the joists to change direction to bear on that beam/wall.
  9. Go to BUILD>FRAMING>JOIST DIRECTION and place a direction indicator in the plan.
  10. Even sending them to layout using the plot line setting is still "lve" in my opinion. If a change is made, I make one click and the layout is updated, even with plot line.
  11. All live elevations, sections, and 99.5% all live details. I also have them set to not manually update. I have few if any issues.
  12. Open the symbol, choose the 2D block, remove/change fill.
  13. Of course....you won't be able to have 5 independent windows across there if you use this tool.
  14. But without the newels how will you stop and transition the rail?
  15. But what if you want to add windows to the box/bay? That is why being able to explode...like a dormer...would be best.
  16. I do save as occasionally, but honestly I hit save and move on. Last thing I need is a hundred different versions of plans to keep track of. If a client wants me to change something, they best be sure because I'm going to charge them $80/hr to change it back if they change their mind.
  17. "Hello pot...kettle here....you're black."
  18. CTRL D.....it's your friend....
  19. I was afraid of something like this. I haven't used these tools (box, bay, etc..) for sometime because of the extreme limitation, was hoping something had changed. I built it with multiple walls.
  20. Ok Gurus. I need to put multiple windows into the box widow (see pic). When I place the box it only allows a single window...I need four....how?
  21. Walls, Main Layer Only will override all other layers.
  22. The brackets need to be placed manually. I usually tile my plan & elevation views and place/move them into position. Get one right and copy paste the rest. If you know the absolute heights, or heights in relation to the floor, you can use the transform replicate tool to place them in an exact position. Shadows are n camera defaults.
  23. It's...in my opinion...nowhere near that complicated. In all the years I have used Chief, back to v9, I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I have used the point to point dim tool. Using CNRL D works the best for me.
