All live elevations, sections, and 99.5% all live details. I also have them set to not manually update. I have few if any issues.

Open the symbol, choose the 2D block, remove/change fill.

Of course....you won't be able to have 5 independent windows across there if you use this tool.

But without the newels how will you stop and transition the rail?

But what if you want to add windows to the box/bay? That is why being able to explode...like a dormer...would be best.

I do save as occasionally, but honestly I hit save and move on. Last thing I need is a hundred different versions of plans to keep track of. If a client wants me to change something, they best be sure because I'm going to charge them $80/hr to change it back if they change their mind.

I was afraid of something like this. I haven't used these tools (box, bay, etc..) for sometime because of the extreme limitation, was hoping something had changed. I built it with multiple walls.

Ok Gurus. I need to put multiple windows into the box widow (see pic). When I place the box it only allows a single window...I need four....how?

Walls, Main Layer Only will override all other layers.

The brackets need to be placed manually. I usually tile my plan & elevation views and place/move them into position. Get one right and copy paste the rest. If you know the absolute heights, or heights in relation to the floor, you can use the transform replicate tool to place them in an exact position. Shadows are n camera defaults.

It's...in my opinion...nowhere near that complicated. In all the years I have used Chief, back to v9, I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I have used the point to point dim tool. Using CNRL D works the best for me.

I simply place the dim..let it pick up what ever it's going to pick up and while its still selected hit CNRL D and choose the line I want it perpendicular to. That way I don't have to turn the snaps on and off.

Layer Sets. You need to set the materials to the gray scale you want, then let the layer set control everything else when sent to layout. Also...check the settings for the layout page. You may have the color turned off in the layout.

I like to keep them a little simplistic, and easy to read. I have an Anno & Layer Set for "Presentation Plan View" so with a couple clicks I can easily get these out and to a client or onto my Facebook page.

What isn't correct? Looks ok from my end.

I have been know to sent 3D views to builders/clients in the past. These could be sent to layout and labeled relatively painlessly.

There was an X8 update awhile back. Did you not update?

Yes. Very, very few if any drag and drop CAD details. Live backclipped cross section cameras, some notes and fills in my library to drop onto the cut, anno/layer set set up for 3/4" scale, 1/2" scale, and 3" scale to notate and send to layout. It may take longer than drag and drop, but I don't have to drag and drop, then modify to match. There are times I have to do a little clean-up or add some CAD lines here or there, but I like this style.

I guess my question is is it a "concern" or is it a code? The "concerns" of the departments I deal mean very little unless they can reference a specific code to me. Sometimes pushing back a little keeps things moving.

I think you need to make the sheathing layer one of the main layers in the wall dbx in order for anything to attach to it. All wall intersections occur at main layers only if I am remembering correctly.
