Plan Views in Layout Default to the Same Floor
joey_martin replied to Sunnyfields's topic in General Q & A
If you are using a SAVED PLAN VIEW my guess would be that is the issue. In that first pic you show, pan up...what does it say for the saved plan view? -
Pattern hatches in elevation view only half-render in layout

What does it look like what printed to a PDF? Screen resolution will play tricks at times. Print a test to PDF. -
Create room underneath stairs without walls
joey_martin replied to Brannan926's topic in General Q & A
Use a solid railing wall rather than an open wall. -
Create room underneath stairs without walls

Then it isn't a room. Use polysolids if walls aren't working, but my guess you aren't really explaining the situation appropriately. -
Knowing how to set the model up and use the available tools will go a long way to making the framing correct. Many (well, most) of the files sent to me with framing issues are because the user didn't/hasn't taken the time to know the tools and how they work, or hasn't set up any default settings and just expects Chief to know what they are thinking. Between the bearing line, joist direction line, and framing reference tool, it can be really close without any manual manipulation.

In my experience, and I have one client that does a ton of these, we build the balcony (deck) and use Trex from the library. We handle the "details" with CAD details. The biggest problem with..."but I want to model it the correct way"...are the slope cut joists and the drainage (guttering) systems.

How to make horizontal railings for decks or (and) stairs?
joey_martin replied to Nicu101268's topic in General Q & A
Of course there is. Create one "panel" and turn it into a symbol. Create your deck rail and choose to use your panel, or use your panel as a stand alone symbol on the edge of the deck. Multiple ways to handle this, and all fairly painless. -
Foundation-Slab on Grade with brick ledge
joey_martin replied to 31Construction's topic in General Q & A
I don't remember if X9 had auto ledge, but X12 does. If you put brick or stone on the exterior wall, Chief will add the ledge per the set up. -
Making Openings Visible In Orthographic Overview Plan Views

Don't start with that camera. Start with the PERSPECTIVE OVERVIEW camera, then change to the look you want and use the slider. -
Foundation-Slab on Grade with brick ledge
joey_martin replied to 31Construction's topic in General Q & A
Set it all up in the default foundation settings, and the wall above that contains the brick and Chief will handle most of the rest for you. -
Look in the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing folder under ventilation.

That looks like the label. Check the layer controlling the label and adjust the text there.

You need to go click on the cabinet it is originally attached to, click it, hit tab, then delete it.

rafter Tail profiles on beams or pergola rafters.
joey_martin replied to Treehouse2339's topic in General Q & A
As said, you have to make your own joists and beams. Make one and copy/paste, it's not too bad. -

Lowering 1st floor ceiling without losing 2nd floor custom roof
joey_martin replied to QwertyGraves's topic in General Q & A
You're very welcome. That's debatable at times, at least to some. -
Lowering 1st floor ceiling without losing 2nd floor custom roof
joey_martin replied to QwertyGraves's topic in General Q & A
@GeneDavis when they click on seeking services over there it sends them here. @QwertyGraves I don't use MAC so couldn't tell you about that. Here you go. The roof did not disappear when I used my method. BTW....don't drag walls up and down, that causes a lot of issues. There are setting to stop walls at roofs. Roof Help-Fixed.zip -
Lowering 1st floor ceiling without losing 2nd floor custom roof
joey_martin replied to QwertyGraves's topic in General Q & A
Once you reset the ceiling height on the first floor, select the roof planes and subtract the 12" from their baseline heights while have the checkbox to retain the pitch. Really takes about 10 second to accomplish this task. -
I believe that assessment is correct. When I click it, my line weights don't change.

I can count on one hand how many times I use that layer in all the years I have used Chief. Until you posted that question I forgot it existed.

Here is what my exterior wall looks like. I want my EXTERIOR wall layer to be heavier so it is set to my WALLS, NORMAL layer of 10. I want the INTERIOR wall layer to be lighter, and all interior walls are set to this as well. They are a 6 and I uncheck the BY LAYER box so that I can control that line weight and not my layer settings.

Just open the stair and add a rise.

Hit the TAB key after you click, you are selecting the room and not the wall. Also, there is a setting in the defaults to change that behavior to select the wall before the room.
