  1. Thanks Johnny , I wasn't aware of that but my desktop is Nvidia Only and so far my laptop has not been offered the 1803 Update , which I read maybe due to it having an Intel SSD so I haven't forced the Update on it yet. PS....The Feature is at minute 5:10 in the video above if you want to have a look at it ...
  2. His X8 is working JJ , it is X10 that he is having issues with....
  3. It sounds like it was jumping back and forwards between the Nvidia and iGPU when going from 2D to 3D views , which would make sense , looking at it from a power-saving viewpoint , but forcing Maximum would of stopped that , and if the Laptop is plugged in it really wouldn't matter re battery life. M.
  4. X10 Trial, Full or "Found" on the Internet? this is a symptom of the last....
  5. My 1st guess would be Ambient Occlusion is on 100% OOB, turn it down to 20% and you should notice the Crown (Cornice) and Corners don't have the weird Shadow/graininess. (BTW CA's AO is no supported by Nvidia's AO settings it seems, so don't be surprised in the Nvidia Control Panel when it says not supported for CA) Bloom to my Eye makes everything look "soft" compared to the Older versions off CA , so try with it off too , it is supposed to help with making lighting more natural but YMMV. M.
  6. You can also turn on the Nvidia Visual indicator so you know when it is being used , at the Top of the Control Panel , under Desktop check Display GPU Activity Icon. M.
  7. You will typically get better battery life by only using the Nvidia Card when needed , assigning Chief in the 3D Management tab under Programs works for me.... Here is a more detailed post I made for another Chiefer.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17190-inserting-object-from-library-browser-freezes-most-of-the-app/?do=findComment&comment=144430
  8. Yep , I am not sure you can even set it to Treated Material like you can with Posts and Beams if needed?. M.
  9. as Chopsaw mentioned there have been issues with some Nvidia and Intel VideoCard Drivers , have a look at this post below for more info but the latest Drivers seem good for most now...in X10 at least.
  10. Ok , I thought you had made a symbol and I didn't think that was necessary... not sure why I can't shift-select the middle flight though. M.
  11. Checking the Ignore Subsection Boundaries Box in the Staircase DBX worked for me in a test plan for the Railing , assuming you mean that railing on the 3rd flight against the Wall? Eric's CTRL or Shift Select of a particular Flight does work but is really finicky ( you get a different looking selection type when it works) but I couldn't get it to work on the middle Flight in my test plan at all , in the pic below I removed the wall railing on the 3rd flight too using CTRL- Select as a test without it disappearing on the 2nd flight too. I do have move Stair Subsection independently on in Preferences but am not sure if that makes a difference in this case or not? M.
  12. A lot of stuff on 3D Warehouse has large face/polygon counts , which is something I always check before downloading, especially if there are alot of curves or rounded objects or parts of objects , which CA doesn't like , eg an Oval Kohler sink vs a rectangular one , nowadays we have a Chief Kohler Library though which is better.
  13. A couple of Versions ago in X10 a Wall cabinet was causing CA to Crash for me too , it was supposedly fixed in the next update , but perhaps something they have done in a recent update has caused it to reappear ? So I'd say send it in , as it may not be "User Error" M.
  14. If it is an intel Card / Driver , try searching on Intel here in the Q&A Forum as there are numerous versions of intel's drivers not working well with Chief with certain Intel Cards and there have been several good threads on it with MarkMC and Kitchenabode taking part.
  15. The KB Article on Pole Barns maybe a start https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01069/designing-a-traditional-pole-barn-structure.html There is a Metal/Steel Beam Library , not sure if it help though as I haven't played with it.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/789
  16. You can Use Floor Material regions for the Field and Custom Sized areas , and assign the Border Tile as the Room's main Floor tile , that way for the field tile you can make a room polyline , convert it to a material region and then pull it off the wall 6" to "show" the Border. Make the Field and custom shape Material regions 1/16" thicker than the Room Floor tile so you see them ( I usually make the Thinset 1/16 thicker to do this) , you may need to make any custom areas another 1/16th thicker to show through the new field Tile too. Doors are always an issue in showers so I just use a PL Solid or even a Soffit with glass as the material , things are a little better in X10 in that regard. M.
  17. This would be the easiest way and give you a wall Cap which you would get if you drag it down Manually..... In the wall DBX check the Railing box and set it to a solid Type if not already done and under Newel set the height to 45"
  18. I don't think currently there is a way to assign a particular Folder eg in Preferences, but this would be a good one to add to the Suggestions Forum , it would be useful for those that have 2-3 or even 4 Versions of CA installed at any one time. If you removed the X7, X8 , X9 Texture Folders when opening Plans in those versions you would likely get an error message that the .jpgs can't be found for many Materials and you would / could then redirect those searches to the X10 Textures folder as needed. As a Test you could simply rename the X7-X9 Folders eg add .Old to the name and see what happens per above....
  19. Not in the Emails notifications I got , not unless the OP deleted the thread ? but not sure why he would....
  20. Nope I was just looking for it too , as a follow up from this morning..... I am denied access when clicking on the email link to here... M.
  21. You would have to create the Folder every time you booted the computer , before starting CA , as the RAM Disk is Created at Boot Time and is not persistent. For the last 5 years I have had a CA_Temp Folder and a CA_Undo Folder in the Root of C Drive for CA to Use as C is my NVME SSD which is pretty quick but not instantaneous and that has allowed me to use Undo, something which is useful to me , in case I get down a "rabbit hole" trying to fix something.... There maybe other RAMDisks available which work differently , I have not had time to look into it further... M.
  22. select the arrow and then the change line/arc tool on the edit menu and pull arc normally as needed....
  23. there is an ARC with Arrow on the Arc Menu in X10 ..... or open the ARC DBX and check the Arrow radio box ( off by default ) .... M.
  24. @Designer1 Use BullZip Print to PDF (Free) instead of Chief's , file size is smaller and you can WaterMark it as well. http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php They also have a free Reader much like Adobe Reader... http://www.bullzip.com/products/stu/
  25. Michael is correct but you will need to assign the Dimensions to the new appropriate Layer you create as you mentioned , it isn't automatic , otherwise they would all remain on the Manual Dims. Layer
