42% Of Chief Is Still Unknown To Me (Counting Layers)
DRAWZILLA replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
I always keep the ALDO active, up all the time, on a different monitor and work off of it, when nothing is selected all layers show up. -
One more Schedule I'd like to see is a plan note Schedule. Place a number and add a note, it will clean up the plan a little. I now use the plant schedule converted to a plan note schedule using an invisible plant to get the labels I need. Thanks to Joe for that.

42% Of Chief Is Still Unknown To Me (Counting Layers)

The new ALDO eliminates all the hassle of trying to find a layer -
I use Chief's framing on every plan I do. I don't show any 3d framing views, but Chief has gotten very good with their framing, like joists direction, posts, conc. pads ,or piers. Framing has some work to do yet but I like it. You've come a log way baby.

Try the "Paste Special" to keep the formatting.

Scott, yes, one thing I always do when adding a second floor over an existing is to overbuild the 2nd floor joists over the existing ceiling joists, so I have to include the f.j. and the (e) ceiling joists in one floor DBX, how could the ML possiable deal with this condition.
-
I have not had that problem yet, so I'm not sure what the answer is.
-
Material region sounds like the way to go, keeping it simple, rather than adding layers.
-
No, please don't give up, can you do all that for me and send me the file, I don't have an extra 30 day to do it correctly. JK

over the years painting walls was nothing but trouble for most people, what you show is new for X7, maybe they fixed the problem now. I'll have to check it out.
-
For me that doesn't always work when trying to change the joists direction for framing, I then just place a bearing line for that. It does work great for adding a footing under a wall.
-
I suppose one could add a 1/16" thick paint layer to each wall definition they have.
-
Joey, it a lot more than that.
-
yes it is
-
here is a clue
-
yes, turn off Auto framing In the Deck DBX once you have it the way you want.

I have one rule, and that is, never paint walls.

I really don't use the ML because, it wouldn't be very accurate for most of my work (remodeling). To much setup and a lot of break walls and new vs. existing things to make it worth it for me.. Around here everyone wants to do their own take-offs anyway. They just don't trust a computer doing it and things like shear walls, (wood and steel), and holdowns are usually all over the plan ,which I have to do in cad b/c Chief doesn't even address this stuff. Another thing is patches, wall Ceilings and floors, How would the ML handle these things, Some jobs could have 20 0r 30 patches of drywall, stucco, floor sheathing, That's a lot of missing items. I imagine you could set Chief up for that but what a mess it would be. I really don't make money doing ML so I'll leave it to the pros to spend their time to do it.
-
Did you change it here?
-
You must of painted something ,change the wall materials back to default
-
I know there is some info for energy calc's in the ML, useful for the calc's, Other than that, I really haven't used it at all. Also, it's almost too much, to set it up to be accurate for remodels. I have my new walls and existing walls but there is much more setup for those. Not sure if I could ever get remodels very accurate. Yes good topic for a workshop to learn all about it.

Thanks Joe. you would think those were solids.

There are some torus's in the lib.X7 in the Shapes section. I just did a catalog update and there were lots of changes to the core and others.

All my plans and layouts are from X6 then saved in X7 but I tried a new profile plan from X7 with the same slowness.
