  1. There are gable vents in the library, would just need to add the center bar.
  2. Open the cabinet DBX and put the hardware on the cabinet, not drug into the plan like this.
  3. 1/2" scale...vector view...watch your line weights and text size for consistency.
  4. Try the WALLS, MAIN LAYER ONLY and see how that looks to you.
  5. I do offer one on one training via the internet. I also travel as needed or requested to different places to offer training for groups. I do not offer group training via the internet. I have "attended" some of those, and I am no longer interested in attending or providing training in that environment.
  6. I never had this happen til X8. Now I can't use this feature any longer or every time I do, it looks like that. Need to send in a bug report. I will as soon as I get a chance as well.
  7. While using a reference set would help you, and isn't really a work around, the answer to you question is no. The foundation will not show on 2 different level. You and I design and build in the same general area of the country, and basements are the norm for us. I place the basement/foundation on level 0 everytime. I have never come across a situation in which I wanted or needed the basement on level one. Not saying that method is wrong. The guys out west (Mr. Hall) described to me situation using slab foundations where it is beneficial for them to place the "basement" on floor 1, but it was a situation that I don't think I would ever encounter, and most likely you would not either. Now, I am assuming you don't work much with slabs. I spent a couple weekends up in Kalamazoo a few years back teaching for the NAHB, and all the builders/designers in my class all built the same as I did. Just a little deeper frost line. So while I certainly would never discourage you from learning and playing with both methods, I don't think you will use the basement on floor 1 method very often.
  8. If the information is imported from ACAD, make sure the text didn't come in as a block that needs to be exploded so that it can take on the text characteristics.
  9. Are you using the paint layer for the materials list? Defining specific brands and colors? If not, then I think it may be overkill.
  10. It's hard to tell from that view, and without the plan others are going to chastise you....but it looks like there may be 2 slabs under the garage?? Again, hard to tell.
  11. Is the terrain accurate based on a survey, or just placed?
  12. Got 2 jobs going that this will come in handy for. Thanks!
  13. Use the layer settings of the wall/framing members. You can also use the layer properties of the items beyond as well. Most likely will require a separate layer set.
  14. Templates. Completely blank, but all preferences set up to the way 90% of the homes I do are built. I just open and go most of the time. May have to change from basement to crawl space, or change the roof pitch, but other than that, I just open and go.
  15. I took a good long look at the SAM method awhile back......I needed therapy afterwards.
  16. Here is the one I keep in my library. Using this is a better option than using a partition when it comes to toe kick, panels, and moldings. Ref. Side Panel.calibz
  17. That situation is not a filler....it a "cabinet". Insert a full cabinet and set the specs accordingly. Save it to your library so that you will have it to use again.
  18. I'm going to toss this out again for everyone. I seem to be getting a lot of requests from the South East to possible come and do some one on one. Is there interest in a 2-day training session somewhere in the Southeast that everyone could get to? Atlanta comes to mind. I am willing to set up the 2-day training session so that we can do some "hands-on" face to face training if there is interest in me getting down there. Flights from Indy to Atlanta are pretty reasonable, so I am sure I can keep cost down if we can get something scheduled. Please let me know via email to joeymdp@gmail.com and put Atlanta Training in the subject line so that I can group them together. Thanks everyone.
  19. If you are upgraded to X8 you can change the glass material and translucence to get the effect you are after.
  20. I am working on a 4000 sqft spec. Pretty detailed, with full MEP, Framing, etc....I am at 42 hours right now, and have at least 20 hours of details and sections to produce....if I can keep it below 70 hours I would feel pretty good about it. Keep in mind though that, there have been minimal revisions using Chief. I sketched most of the prelim, so that is about 10 hours I would guess.
  21. I had to make a new template plan for X8...had some issues with the template I have brought forward over the years. Sometimes it's OK to start fresh and take a look at how you do things now compared to how I did things in X1 (which is when my template originated). I did find some things to change, a few things to "update" and what not.
  22. Umm...no. Not even close. The problem with that theory is that, if you are charging $150/hr in Kansas, there will always be 10 designers willing to charge $75/hr, which means you are out of business quick! I'm in Indiana, which I think is probably similar to your general area. I charge $80/hr here if I'm doing hourly drafting/light design work for builders/developers. I prefer square foot pricing, and again, it depends on what I am doing. Full service design and spec will be a higher rate that if a builder brings me his sketch and needs a set of "builder plans", which in this area is simply a few pages.
  23. Yes. Just export your existing title block (DXF/DWG) and import it onto page 0 of the layout.
  24. You can't. Chief files cannot go backwards. If you have files created in X8, they cannot be viewed in x7.
  25. I think a compromise would be to give current SSA members the opportunity to download and backup what was previously included. Give us a grace period to get what we need.
