how do i create different "versions" on the same plan?
joey_martin replied to waltsyd's topic in General Q & A
FILE>SAVE AS>...railing option A, ...railing option B...railing option C... Pick the one you like, and delete the others. -
Graham I understand all of that, and I agree....but spending any more time than is absolutely needed, is a waste. The z-fighting...in my experience...doesn't show in Standard view, and doesn't show in Elevation view, so I don't think twice about ignoring it. I would also say that I never, or rarely, use wall coverings. I will always opt for creating a wall type with the materials applied.
-
Switch to Standard view and they are probably not still behaving this way. I think it's a video card issue, and not a modeling issue. I have some models that will behave this way, and others that don't, and I know I generate my models the same way, and from the same template. I would not fight this issue any more than needed. I have never had it show in a rendering, or in an elevation view.

I believe you also need to turn the door layer on in the foundation plan in order to dimension to them. They won't show, as they are on the floor above, but the dims will find them.

Cabinet hardware not showing under countertop in plan view
joey_martin replied to weilerl's topic in General Q & A
You simply need to change the hardware on the cabinets, not ADD more hardware in the plan view. The software doesn't work that way. Go to the HELP menu in the tool bar and type in CABINET HARDWARE. -
Perhaps an energy heel(ed) truss. Raise the height of the truss off the plate, and leave the PH as is. See if that gives you the desired result.
-
Remember that Chief operates on the premise that ROOMS take precedent over WALLS. Set the PH of the rooms to the desired height.

Select the window and open the DBX. You can select to have the arch right of left. You can also put the 2 windows in the plan, mull them together, and then add the arch to them as a single unit.

There are gable vents in the library, would just need to add the center bar.

Cabinet hardware not showing under countertop in plan view
joey_martin replied to weilerl's topic in General Q & A
Open the cabinet DBX and put the hardware on the cabinet, not drug into the plan like this. -
1/2" scale...vector view...watch your line weights and text size for consistency.
-
Try the WALLS, MAIN LAYER ONLY and see how that looks to you.

I do offer one on one training via the internet. I also travel as needed or requested to different places to offer training for groups. I do not offer group training via the internet. I have "attended" some of those, and I am no longer interested in attending or providing training in that environment.

I never had this happen til X8. Now I can't use this feature any longer or every time I do, it looks like that. Need to send in a bug report. I will as soon as I get a chance as well.

Foundations on multiple levels, But one floor plan
joey_martin replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
While using a reference set would help you, and isn't really a work around, the answer to you question is no. The foundation will not show on 2 different level. You and I design and build in the same general area of the country, and basements are the norm for us. I place the basement/foundation on level 0 everytime. I have never come across a situation in which I wanted or needed the basement on level one. Not saying that method is wrong. The guys out west (Mr. Hall) described to me situation using slab foundations where it is beneficial for them to place the "basement" on floor 1, but it was a situation that I don't think I would ever encounter, and most likely you would not either. Now, I am assuming you don't work much with slabs. I spent a couple weekends up in Kalamazoo a few years back teaching for the NAHB, and all the builders/designers in my class all built the same as I did. Just a little deeper frost line. So while I certainly would never discourage you from learning and playing with both methods, I don't think you will use the basement on floor 1 method very often. -
If the information is imported from ACAD, make sure the text didn't come in as a block that needs to be exploded so that it can take on the text characteristics.

Wall Specification Wall Layer for Paint
joey_martin replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in General Q & A
Are you using the paint layer for the materials list? Defining specific brands and colors? If not, then I think it may be overkill. -
It's hard to tell from that view, and without the plan others are going to chastise you....but it looks like there may be 2 slabs under the garage?? Again, hard to tell.

Terrain Elevations And Specifications
joey_martin replied to Decorationarts's topic in General Q & A
Is the terrain accurate based on a survey, or just placed? -
Got 2 jobs going that this will come in handy for. Thanks!

Use the layer settings of the wall/framing members. You can also use the layer properties of the items beyond as well. Most likely will require a separate layer set.

Templates. Completely blank, but all preferences set up to the way 90% of the homes I do are built. I just open and go most of the time. May have to change from basement to crawl space, or change the roof pitch, but other than that, I just open and go.

I took a good long look at the SAM method awhile back......I needed therapy afterwards.

Here is the one I keep in my library. Using this is a better option than using a partition when it comes to toe kick, panels, and moldings. Ref. Side Panel.calibz

That situation is not a filler....it a "cabinet". Insert a full cabinet and set the specs accordingly. Save it to your library so that you will have it to use again.
