The materials list a tool that is only as good as the model it is reading. If you take shortcuts on the model, the materials list will reflect that. A good solid accurate model WILL 100% produce a good solid materials list. If accurate modeling is a hassle....as some here suggest....then you likely have the wrong idea about what this software should do.

Johnny place a post footing and resize it accordingly. I have found that slab tool to be unusable. I have tried it for thickened areas under a basement slab with little luck. The post footing works the best.

Breaking the wall is the process I use now when needing to pull the footing under a pilaster, or as above mentioned a new or existing point load needing a wider footing. We need the ability to select and manipulate footing though, with the wall break workaround.

In the first pic....the back right corner of the garage is the problem. The main roof of the house is cutting the wall into multiple gables. Delete that roof and drag it into place.

Until the live elevations, which I don't use that often, I have never used anything other than a vector view camera for elevations and sections.

Create that 18"x24" sheet and use SAVE AS as save it as a template in whichever folder you keep your templates. I think there are also some premade templates of that size in one of the directories included with Chief.

I second that. Break the wall(s) and drag them in place on top of some double rafters or lvl rafter, and the framing should be correctly sitting on the roof plane and not through the building.

Draw a ceiling plane using the ceiling plane tool and frame it. If Auto framing is on, Chief should do it. If you have a plane, and the ceiling framing isn't following it, then you have added a ceiling plane to a room with an existing ceiling. Open the room DBX and check the box for no ceiling, then add your manual ceiling plane and re-frame.

Can't select footings in Chief.....sigh. You can draw a slab footing at the same depth and bump them against each other and they should connect.

I have worked similarly a couple times before. The builders was using a few guys, and we each had our area to work on (Foundation Plan, Framing Plans, etc...). Rather than make multiple copies of the same model, we had a set number of days on a schedule to get our portion completed so that the other guy could take over the file and do his portion. We worked from Dropbox so that the file was easily accessible to everyone when their time in the schedule came up. Worked great. As long as everyone stays on schedule that is. If you have multiple homes, you could do the same type thing. Designer A has access to plan A for a set number days/hours, while designer B is working plan B and so on. That way everything stays in the same plan file.

I have one jurisdiction with a lot of small narrow lots. I have to show the overhangs on the plan view, as the setback for the sides include the overhang. Only time I use them.

If someone wants a "copy" of a plan they bring to me, I go to the site they were going to steal it from, and ask for 25% more than they could buy it from the site....they go back to original designer.

I'm sure he/she can scale them back to 1:1, but as a rule, exporting the layout pages is not what subs want. Export from plan/elevation view and everything should go much smoother.

If you SELECT ALL and block it you can resize it to fit. The TRANSFORM>REPLICATE tool should work as well.

Is that plan brought forward? I worked on some X6 plans over the weekend that did that, nothing like that in a plan started in X8.

There is no conversion. While using Chief Architect we work in 3D...Nothing to convert.

I have been engaged with this forum for around a decade and have probably answered hundreds of questions over those years. I can count on one hand how many times I have downloaded a plan. I simply move on...you should try it.

Then perhaps that should have been the response rather than the a$& chewing her gave the poster.

Stop berating people for your lack of knowledge in being able to figure out a problem without seeing the plan!@!!@!@@#!@@#$%!%^#%^$ Now...@Aunttieem...While the room you are working in may have the correct ceiling height, remember that Chief is build around all the rooms. First, check the ceiling heights of the adjacent rooms to ensure that the ceiling heights are all consistent, if they are not, then that is where you start with fixing the issue. If the intent of your design is to have different ceiling heights through-out the plan, then you need to work from the ceiling height of the room you are in, and use that as the number you are going to work from. On the walls that are taller, you will need to detail how the ledger connects the sloped ceiling plane, as it may or may not model correctly. Creating a detail of that connection is a painless process. I hope that helps more than having your a&$ chewed for not posting that plan.

Yes it does. Every now and then I will need to change one, but not very often at all.

My walls contain a grey fill so that when I send them layout, they are already to go.

Same here... I work in color, but use anno/layer sets to send everything to layout in b/w or gray scale.

Leave it as 1 room and use the MATERIAL REGION TOOL to place the different flooring areas.
