  1. You can use the Free Version 8 Viewer to "convert" the Files I am surprised this didn't come up in a Search either here or on the KB.... Check the GREEN text box and the link in it , in this KB Article https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00279/opening-legacy-files.html Not sure if SSA is needed though ?
  2. ***Updated*** These files are not included in X10 but are in this POST These are the Style Templates and used By the Home Designer Products mainly as a starting Point..... They are in the Chief Data Folder >Templates>CA Templates ........................................ however I am on Windows...... >Documents\Chief Architect Premier X10 Data\Templates\CA Templates The Commercial, Residential and NKBA are the Standard Default Templates in >Documents\Chief Architect Premier X10 Data\Templates The Default Templates ( not Style templates) usually are also backed up at : Your Installation Folder\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X10 (64 bit)\Templates M.
  3. In Paint or Paint 3D, Gimp etc , use a background with the grout colour applied and then copy/paste 8-12-20 copies of the pic above as needed, with a thin line between them (grout), rotating them in different directions and vertically/horizontally and then make a new material (reset the textures size appropriately) so the repeat isn't as noticable and the image size is set to real life sizes depending on number of tiles used above.... What you need to look for online are Seamless Textures , so the repeats are not noticeable...getting a Pattern will be harder especially for that tile but search here for Arabesque and I think you'll find one or two... www.cadhatch.com is one place that has a free Pattern genrator ( excel file) and free patterns and seamless textures. Mick.
  4. I think if you Search you will find some Mark made previously and posted either here or in the Symbols Forum. M.
  5. see 1&2 above...plus..... 1.a) you don't need the Flat under eave setting either ....soffit is likely 3/4" thick.. 2.a) Sub fascia is nearly always 1 size smaller that the Fascia otherwise you can get gaps ie if fascia is 2x12 subfascia will be 2x10 (or 2x8) to allow room for the soffit material. b.) Eave fascia is often one size smaller than the Gable fascia, not sure of your design here though 3.) Shadow-boards are generally only used on the Gable ends ( otherwise they can interfere with the Gutter on the Eave.) 4.) Personally I use 1 1/2" Fascia on all builds as it warps etc less in the Weather in my experience. 5.) the workshop walls are setup incorrectly , you have an 8" ICF wall sitting on a Framed Brick clad wall......no idea what is correct though... this maybe the issue with the frieze not building correctly? the ICF wall also has siding on it which you painted with Stucco , always best to Make a new Wall type by copying the closed one in the DBX than Painting exterior Walls. ( *** just found you do have an ICF-Stone Wall and it works fine below the ICF Wall) 6.) you may have found a bug in that it appears the Frieze dose not want to build over.across the Concrete layer of the ICF wall Type...if I change the Walls to 8" CMU or Concrete the Frieze builds properly. A quick play with the Wall intersection tool didn't help but YMMV. 7.) Not sure why you have given your whole (back)yard a Room definition but it has a monolithic Slab under it ( maybe cause by the fence/wall definition you are using....) There is a number of weird goings on , I had a bit of a play , file is below for you to play with more... Mick. Workshop_Help_MHD.plan
  6. Reversed walls could be it ( ie drawn inside out) but that is harder to do in X10 as it should auto switch (reverse) them..... could be a messed up Setting in the 1st Floor Wall definition, check the Wall Types DBX, in the wall settings area ie Foundation to exterior layer of:
  7. Clopay's 3 Panel Avante is pretty Close....... not sure if that is the one Eric used.... I just changed the Panels to 5 and Glass to tempered.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/692
  8. should of quoted here too as I'm not sure what you are referring too.... you don't have to quote a whole post you can select a few lines of text and you should see a popup with quote selection come up....I sometimes have to right click the selection to get the popup though. Mick.
  9. No worries and just reinforces my thoughts.... but with links to good videos.... :)
  10. Thx Steve.... you should add this to your Others in the Tips Forum......and perhaps add your YT Channel to your Sig. M.
  11. Steven made a quick Video a couple of days ago about chamfering Solids which is worth watching too....
  12. PDF is Free , so is the Tutorial Guide I suggested the other Day ...both off the Help Menu Icon but you can also Order hard copies if you want them.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/documentation.html Terry Munson also has his Book or PDF available on his website called Chief apprentice.... https://chiefapprentice.com/ I know you are doing this more for "fun" than anything but having the fundamentals down will only let you enjoy it more..... and I can tell from your questions you have jumped to lesson 300 , so to speak , without doing the 1st 100..... CA is a deep , deep program and alot of people never use all the features , and even those of us with a few years in are still learning all the time....it's why the Forum is so helpful.
  13. You really need to start using the Ref.Manual Rocky .....and/or hit F1 all the time........ otherwise you are just driving your own frustration level higher and higher.......
  14. You can edit a Polyline Solid's edge, with the same Tools as you used with the lines...eg convert to Arc....try it , then open it and set the height (depth/thickness) and elevation. PS you can still use Free Sketchup or Even Sketchup WEB now for free too. M.
  15. The Square Mesh Mark shows is in the Bonus Materials Library With Wire and Lattice Materials here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/961
  16. You have been playing around with Wall Polylines in 3d haven't you ? ie dragging them up and down etc...........bad boy ..... ..... try to avoid it if possible reset the Default wall Heights (check the box) and it should mend itself...... also might want to make them 1 1/2" thick no 3/4" , 3/4" won't be thick enough for Shakes.
  17. CA shows the Interior Dimensions by default , turn them off in the ALDO so they don't interfere, and then use the Macro in the label for them above the Ceiling height. You don't need the Room type macro as CA adds that automatically...if the Room Name is different than the Type you may want to use it though?
  18. This is how it should be, but isn't always as the OP's pics show in Post 1......I have seen this many times myself also , I see it both ways as above , not sure if it is dictated by whether you have Boxed Eaves>flush Eave checked or not or on by default in your Template? I have no idea why or where it get Ashpalt Roofing from as it is not a "material" in CA's Library. Many built in default materials do not have textures etc associated with them though on the Material's Properties DBX.
  19. Baselines are drawn automatically for manual Roof planes.... and are always above the Framing Line in green usually (main layer wall line) but I don't normally need them displayed. They will move if for example you force some settings , Same height Eaves with different pitched Roofs can cause this as the overhang will be different.
  20. then change the overhang distance in the Wall DBX otherwise you are also altering the Height above Plate measurement.....and possibly the Baseline Location.
  21. There are a number of Threads about other Programs , like the "gotta jump ship" one in the Chatroom which may help. You could use Draftsight for DWG work, it has a Free version which I use occasionally and even the pro version is not that expensive to buy outright.
  22. Too True , make a Suggestion or Feature Request....I'd be happy to add my Vote to it.....
  23. you can't do that and not alter the pitch.....think about it.... the pitch and overhang dictate the fascia height ( and height above plate), now enter some random number for the ridge what would happen? , the pitch must change..... depending on the house, you maybe better off with "Same height Eaves , than Same Roof height at exterior Walls is my guess.... ( same thing if all pitches are equal) seems to work well in this plan when set with 6/12 pitch ....not sure that is how it should look though? Not sure you have the basic concepts of Roofs , the pitch doesn't change if you lock it when setting the Fascia or ridge heights , if you don't lock the Pitch it will pivot while altering one of those, unfortunately you cant lock the Pitch permanently but It should normally be the one locked in the Roof DBX when making changes otherwise you will end up with weird off-pitch roof slopes eg 6.23/12 Thicker lines shouldn't hurt but I don't work with line weights on anyway..... set the display per my pic above and it should clear up alot of un-needed lines... M.
  24. Have you worked through the Tutorial guide for X10 Rocky ? ...like Others i think you need to get the basics down 1st and then watch videos and just use the software , same way the rest of us have learned CA. If your Roof Planes are joined properly you will get an automated ridgecap displayed...so that is a good visual indication for good joins, assuming you are displaying RidgeCaps .... Sounds like you may also have Roof Overhangs,Roof Trim and Gutter Display on, (multiple Lines) turn them off in the ALDO too, like this....
  25. Didn't look at the Plan but couldn't you just put a Landing outside the Door and draw the stairs down to the garage floor? (hold ALT key)
