Outdoor Covered Patio, Post to Beam with Pony Wall, Post Alignment
Kbird1 replied to CheifTexan's topic in General Q & A
Glenn's way seems to work fine , though there are a few quirks for example , the Framing builds thru the Corners in plan view even though they should be 6X6s ( okay in 3D) and the Posts will center on the Wall and that may not be desired in this case. ie you likely want the Walls flush to the inside so the posts don't stick out at the interior Corners. It does let you spec a 2x Wall Cap though which maybe desired eg for a Bar Top. Other way would be to Use the Framing Tools and Place the 4 Posts and Beams and then add the Sheathed one side Walls, build the Roof Auto (if not on), turn Roof Auto Build off, drag the walls down in elevation to the desired height and frame them. I also needed to uncheck "Roof over this Room" in the Room DBX so it framed the walls to the new height . You would need to do your own wall cap this way with a molding line or p-solids. M. Oh no worries i guess it wasn't clear from my smilies that I knew you were just teasing me..... We actually posted almost at the exact same time.....

Thanks for the Tip Jintu , that looks very nice..... Would you mind exporting the Material from your Library and sharing the calibz file please , so far my attempts to duplicate it have not worked , and I am not sure what Glass you started with? and don't have that basalt.jpg file you used for the grey either..... thx.

Here are the ones I have found on the Forum and altered a bit to play with in the past Shane..... , put the Skylight on the Roof and it's corresponding Skylight as Window into a short Wall off to the side.... you need to cut your own Roof holes with the Skylight symbol if needed for 3D views just remember that the Hole should be shorter than the Skylight top to bottom ( due to roof slope) and to make the Frame 1/16" tall and wide, the Symbol can sit on top of that hole then, the hole will also do the Framing. All Credit to JoeCarrick for this method. Skylights for Window Schedule Use_MHD.calibz

I think you still have to fake it in X10 https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/8493-adding-skylights-to-the-window-schedule/?tab=comments#comment-74818 or make a special symbol https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/5531-skylight-symbol-roof-accessories-schedule/?tab=comments#comment-48387

My guess would be the Dimensions etc are using the X10 Defaults if you haven't changed them or Imported Defaults from one of your old plans. Under Preferences>General>New Plans you will find the files and location of the Template plan used for every new Plan.... If you migrated your x10 install it maybe using the settings from X9 and hence an X9 Plan file for your new Plans even in X10 Yours won't be the same as mine in the pic but the pic shows where to look.... yours is more likely here: C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X10 Data (interiors)\Templates\X10_Residential Template.plan M.

X10 error message on camera views and default setting changes
Kbird1 replied to TennVol's topic in General Q & A
Hi TV , not sure if you new laptop has Nvidia Optimus but make sure to set OpenGL to the Nvidia Card in the NV Control Panel , you can aslo add CA to the Program Tab and set further Options there too. here is more info on Optimus too : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17190-inserting-object-from-library-browser-freezes-most-of-the-app/?tab=comments#comment-144430 -
I see it both ways as above , not sure if it is dictated by whether you have Boxed Eaves>flush Eave checked or not ?
-
Most are in the Roof Build DBX>Materials the RidgeCap for unknown reasons in is Plan Defaults>Materials Flush eave may not be what you think it is , it is maybe part of a Wall so may use the Default Exterior wall type by default or the current Roof surface material page 785 of the Ref. Manual for more info.... : Check Flush Eave to produce box eaves that build flush with the adjacent exterior wall. When unchecked, boxed eaves build to the gable fascia.

either that or delete current ones and redraw new , now your roof is at the correct height. M.

This is a known issue with Plans brought Forward , Michael's "fix" is the usual and easiest way to fix them with little to no work.....select the text type , then do a marquee (Shift key-select) around all the text on a page , open the DBX and simply close it again without adjusting anything...ie just hit Ok. If X10 is using your Old template file from X9 then it will happen in new plans too possibly... M.

You could support a Countryman , there is An Australian Company which makes Hatchkit, which works well I have been told by several users who have it ... https://www.hatchkit.com.au/ for simple rectangular patterns I use cad hatch's excel based spreadsheet (free) they also have free patterns for use. http://www.cadhatch.com/hatch-pattern-generator/4588167700 http://www.cadhatch.com/home/4588167678

No need to turn it off at this stage ,especially on such a simple roof , it was on is my guess and made the 1st Roof , then you raised the ceiling height to 12 feet ( so walls went up) but have not rebuilt the Roof. I am thinking you may have dragged the walls up to 12ft on each side did you ? ( instead of adjusting the room height) , are they at their Default Top and bottom Heights on the Structure Tab? (at the top) , cos normally a roof plane will stop a Wall from moving up automatically and that doesn't appear to be the case here. If the walls are Auto and the Roof is Auto it should build the Roof at the correct height and thus the Trusses will build at that height too ( after a rebuild as mentioned previously). M.

Good news on the PC , and I believe $150 is a pretty good price for a 1TB Samsungbut check around eg newegg and amazon as prices on SSDs have dropped alot in the last 2-3 months -
I see you started a new Thread , so perhaps other should copy and paste their support/suggestions over their too please
-
When you reset the Roof planes, you then need to select ALL the trusses , Open the DBX and check the force truss Rebuild box too. Is auto rebuild Roof still on? as those roof planes are not over your new Walls...., and i see trusses at correct height for those roof planes FYI.....you can't attach the .Plan file while the plan is open in Chief Architect.

Yep can't miss it now ...apparently you Son is a very nice guy ! M.

I guess I am not using Transparent fills in my walls ? but I do see some differences with the Built-in PDF printer still. M.
-
It doesn't count if you don't post the plan we all know your skills with 3D imagery Thanks for pinging me....
-
I tend to use Bullzip if I need to Email the file , if Printing direct then it maybe better to use the built in One as I have also seen the shading and line issues in other PDF Printers. M.

I sent a Report of your 1st Post asking they move it , perhaps if you do too they will ? I am not sure how to ask for a move of Post/thread otherwise ?
