After I built it in Chief I asked my assistant, a Solid works and SU guy, how long/hard in SU. He indicated about the same and would use a similar method.

Few folks liked this when I posted asking a question and it was a bit to make so here. Since it does not resize well I am including the plan where it was built The pediment symbol is in the plan. The crown symbols are there as well in case you need to resize the pediment or change the angle.

Here is how it is done IRL. Back legs remain horizontal to the floor but the crown itself is tilted. Only way I could get it to work was making a symbol from a standard molding line and then tilting it. Was just wondering if there was a way to manipulate the 3D molding line instead.

Is there a way to make the corners meet when one leg of a 3D molding line is on an angle while the others are horizontal? Just want to know for the future so I don't waste more time if it come up again. I eventually resorted to making a symbol from a standard molding line and changing the symbol angle. Pediment.plan

I'm of the "would be nice but there are more important things " I'd like to see taken care of. I do run into situations that drive me nuts, I dislike SU and find TurboCad tedious for creation. But it is something I can easily get around. One recent symbol project spurred me on to download FormZ, FreeCAD, and DesignCAD. Already nixed the last one, will give FormZ a spin in my (not so) spare time and see how important this is to me.

Yeah would be nice. I sometimes need callout labels from a second cabinet schedule in one room-to get them I shoot a detail from view using a layerset designed for that. Clean it up a little and block, put on a layer and paste in place. Still a pia but better than nothing for now.

Not many brick and mortar places around here stock gaming machines, maybe by you it's different. They can be had pretty quickly on line though. I'm partial to Clevo/Sagars. Got the latest one from XoticPC took about a week with a rush build. Got the first one from Sagar directly which took a little less time. The new one starts at just under $2k, I hit 3k. New one is 17" but weighs the same as the old 15" at -8-1/2 lbs with battery. Desktop CPU, mobile processor. Can get a desktop processor but adds 3lbs. Machine is upgradeable, no bloatware, actually have to add in an OS, highly configurable-the $2k base machine still rocks. Will run up to 3 screens and can do 4K from the USB-C. (maybe others but I'm not going there so don't care).The only issue I've run into- is the Nvidia control panel on mine doesn't have all the options I'm used to. Just sent question into tech about that. Not that I really need it since there is NO Intel card to contend with. Doesn't look like a gamers machine-just black rubberized. Good cooling, have not had any throttle or heat issues. The new one is actually quiter than the old one. IF I were buying it again I might be looking at different Clevo suppliers. (Clevo is the outfit that built the original Alienware laptops before Dell got hold of it) There is an outfit that does BIOS updates (Prima?) and I'd be looking for a dealer that partners with them as supposedly makes upgrading easier. Partners listing Good place for more info are the forums on Notebookreview.com Might have more info than you want- lot of gamers and geeks. Base model of my machine from Sagar From XoticPC There will be faster machines coming in the next 6 months-Nvidia Pascal GPU's and the new Intel CPUs (6-10 cores) will hit laptops sometime. They also have plenty of options a step or two down.

There was a request for curved and x mullion glass cabinet doors. Here is a plan with one version of curved mullions -there is a symbol in there along with the stuff used to make it. Unlike many door symbols the stretch planes were left alone. Also needed two mirrored molding profiles.

Thanks Scott- we confirmed that it is weird and not my system. Not sure what it should be but will put together something to send in. If anyone is playing along- Scott was saying that material would not be dynamic if changed in the default DBX. First set of steps- If you change the door style default, and then without closing the DBX change the material of the door it IS dynamic. Close and don't save.... Second set of steps IF you change the door style default and close the DBX. Then go back and open it again to change the default material it is NOT dynamic. Now where it gets really odd is-change the door style default- change or don't change the color doesn't matter. Close the dbx. Then open the default dbx-go to the material for the door, select material, plan materials-purge materials, click OK. IT switches to Default cabinet color brite. It may or may not be dynamic depending on what you have already done. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. If you do this immediately after the "first set of steps" it is dynamic but you can't change it back dynamically if you close the DBX. Clear as mud I know, like I said weird.

Yeah I've been through a few programs, and still keep my eye out but with a little interest now, higher bar to match, this ones a keeper The learning curve is better than when I started in (X3) -X8 was a step forward in cabinets. Learning is still a bit more than the others (I've had an assistant training on it AND kitchen design AND ordering for a year now-threw him into the deep end ) Plus it is FAR more stable and flexible than others and the company/support is simply no contest. Worth the effort. My clients love it (it sells jobs and I don't do Ray Traces for first presentations EVER...only for some toward the end). This forum is a gold mine, there's over a dozen or so folks here that have saved my bacon....I read it daily just to see what I may need to know later. I also keep a copy of the reference manual on my system and on my phone.

Can someone check this for me. Changed default wall door style on plan. Door selected was cherry so ... Then changed the default material for that door to match from plan. Changed based doors, then changed the material for those. Just for grins opened up the base default dbx, selected the material to change, plan materials but I did not change the material. I did purge the plan materials and closed the dbx. (This appears to be where the problem occurred.) Opened elevation and not so good. Closed Chief and reopened-no change. Tried to change the material to something else. Closed dbx, not change in cabinets, went back and changed to what I needed, again no change. When I tried to reproduce this -if I take the steps exactly as listed, that is go back and purge the materials from the base default dbx, the base cabinet will change the default color as shown. IF I close the dbx quickly I miss the change, if I wait and see it then I am able to change the material back to "Copy of..." and it holds. IF I purge while in the DBX the first time, not going back just to purge, there is no problem. Do you see what I'm seeing? Can it be reproduced? Ever happen to you? Included zip with this plan and an earlier version.

Welcome, one 2020 refugee to another. Mostly what Dennis said. I make door symbols specifically for this though, posted a door symbol kit in the symbol forum sometime ago. Keep a few wainscot panels in your user library, 2 panel, 3 panel, standard rails, wide rails...like that. As you make em (when I forget I just dig them up from old plans. Beadboard, there are materials in the library that can be applied to panels or polyline solids but getting them to match your cabinets is a pain. Make a psolid then multiple copy. You can also turn that into a symbol. You can work plines and solids in the plan you are working on but it is useful to open a new plan and save that. Then if you need it altered in the future it is there (and versions will be in the archives) Attached a sample.

Try this-attached drawer symbol that you can use on any standard frameless cabinet. I've found it worth the time to learn to make my own door and drawer symbols. A "door kit" plan was posted in the symbols forum some time ago. This was a tad different but did not take long at all.

Perry -are you also saving interior cameras in template? I've tried that for kitchens and I haven't been able to get that to save much time. Suggestions?

I've had mixed results converting PDF to DWG- it seamed to depend on the file provided. Some files worked great, some were useless. I haven't messed with a conversion in something like 5 years. I think I tried every converter available at the time. Are they more consistent now than what I ran into? I now open in BB and export as png to bring into Chief for tracing. ON a good day the supplied PDF has layers so I can turn off what is not needed and clean it up.(wish we could get layered pdfs from Chief)

Importing into a "new cad detail" prevents the size change and doesn't mess up your floor plan. You can drag and drop from Windows Explorer and the dialog box pops up, still have to click away. Two at a time are possible. They will place exactly centered on each other but the last one dragged in will be automatically selected so you can move it. More than two gets messy because of that. I'm sure who use more details than I do will chime in here about long term storage and use. I either keep them in a warehouse plan or the library depending.

Not sure if you are looking at this for working on or for printing? I use some layersets for working only- such as wall cabinets are hidden, base cabinets are hidden- and variations. (I have most of these tied into annosets but that is another discussion) May help with what you are after instead of changing defaults back and forth. If I need to show cabinets in the printed electric plan I use a detail from view. (I have some layersets specific for those too). After creating the detail from view you can select the cabinets and make those with "NO FILL" without affecting the defaults or other parts of the plan. Block, put on layer and "paste in place" back into the electric plan. I don't usually show counters or molding in electric plans but the same applies BUT I do like to see Crown molding when working on recessed lights to avoid conflict.

1-look into annotation sets combined with layersets. A bit to learn, worthwhile. Yoda or someone will add more. 2-layerset(s) for working, has the camera layer on. Another layerset to send to layout with cameras hidden and layer of the 4 way callout(s) showing.
