  1. Can't figure out what is going on. Plan originally from X7 (could even be 6) but has been worked on in every iteration of X8 before and may have been copied and pasted into a new x8-dunno. It is from before I started to place schedules into CAD details. Anyway. Opened it up to do a small edit and see that I have overlapping callouts on plan and elevations. Each cabinet has two callouts-they are not the same numbers but the schedule doesn't show extra numbers. Place a new object and get two callouts both with the same number on it? Go to the schedule for the kitchen -big one on left- open, change to any other room-extra callouts go away? Thought maybe I'd made a detail from view by accident except that it happens on newly placed objects. Any idea what I did?? I've rummaged through old save as and the archives and found a point where I can rebuild this from-not too bad once I figure out what needs to change. Already sent it in to support. Really hoping not to have to wade through this an older plan though. This one has been more changes than....
  2. I installed on this machine two weeks ago without problem. Call support.
  3. create new shortcut on desktop-in the "target box" paste %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /c echo off | clip Name it something you like, select an icon-I then pinned to start menu and for now left it on the desktop. (I keep both pretty clean.) Can also assign a keyboard shortcut to it as long as it is in start menu or on desktop. I have a folder in the start menu where I keep all shortcuts that have keyboards assigned. Keyboard will always be ctrl+alt+ "key you assign" I haven't done that yet since I need to sort through which will be unused, I typically have quite a few, and hoping I don't really need this that often.
  4. I placed a clear shortuct button in my start per Robs suggestion and just hit it once in a while. The only errant thing I found was GeoForce Experience which I uninstalled. So far so good, will see.
  5. LMAO. Hey for renderings nowadays I use the computer-I no longer even use RayTrace to "sell" the job. I use design instead and work with clients in vector (they prefer it to standard) until it comes time to fine tune finishes. Then for some RTs are needed and I'll do them, others not so much. Like you I don't sell drawings and I'm not a natural. Was so self conscious in design school about being poor at it that for any free elective I took drawing/rendering class and practiced constantly. Long ago. I miss markers and colored pencils, love the look and liked working in them, was great at mechanical perspectives. I'm not always sure that getting finishes and lighting good enough for accurate representation for a client is fast than I could do with markers and pencils on a printed perspective, but it's a rabbit hole I'm not going down today. Besides the public is getting used to RTs.
  6. I was never a natural illustrator. Since I don't practice much anymore my sketches are well, sketchy. I did always have a good sense of space and perspective. Undaunted, when I'm stuck, unsure, thinking, need to quickly convey an idea; I use a pencil. Hand drawing accesses a different part of the "electrical and chemical processes", the ones not include in an algorithm. I think there is a good reason that you still see physicists with chalk and a blackboard even though the computers they have would run circles around ours. (anyone want to model a galaxy collision in Chief?) Once upon a time, early days of 2D CAD, I was a modelmaker doing ID work. Along with the advent of CAD we started to frequently be given drawings that simply could not be made. They had spatial conflicts from one elevation to another or to plan. I was never given a hand drawn set that did not work. (exception was years later one architect who insisted on designing kitchens in elevation) Currently have a client who teaches CAD, a dinosaur like me. He teaches his students the basics of manual drafting first, then lets them at the machines. I'm very happy that the rapidographs are rusting in the close but I love my pencils....you can take my pencil from my cold dead hands
  7. I just noticed that if the bottom separation is changed to anything more than 1-1/2" with a framed cabinet the recess disappears- guess that is what you are running into? I only put in LEDs so standard recess is adequate for what I do. Only work around is as on a frameless cabinet (not worth the effort IMO) But it would be nice if they changed it so you could increase the bottom and keep the recess.
  8. Like Michael I usually just note it- I also add a CAD detail as typical. IF you really must make one in a frameless cabinet in CA here is one way-library with example attached. A framed cabinet will have an appropriate recess. edited to add-note that it will be incorrect in the cabinet schedule since the height is cheated. recess bottom wall cabinet.calibz
  9. You can change the overall width of the bow but Don't change the width in the individual window dbx just the height, and casing width there. If you change the component windows to more than some mysterious magic number it will do what you are seeing. I've not found a way around it. I settle for a decent look and accurate overall width of the bow.
  10. Not sure why it's not working for you. Attached, placed window, sized the bow side to side, checked options off, then-tabbed to open one window, changed casing size, height, and got rid of sills. You aren't using a bay instead of a bow are you? Those are more of a problem-still can get close but harder.
  11. check connect outer casing. If you need more adjustment after that tab to open one of the windows.
  12. Temporarily change the door to a doorway, take a detail from view, dimension the detail, put back the door.
  13. Thanks, support suggested the programs to me as well. I told them that I doubt that because: the problem is not persistent, it's happened on two plans so far (one brand new in X8) but no others. the first time I opened a new plan in Chief to make sure things were being copied and was able to paste into it no problem. what has been running on the machine has been the same at all times I'm pretty sure that during the first instance I tried shutting down everything else, which would be SOP for me, and tried again. Never worked until I closed and re-opened chief. I haven't installed 2020 yet -may not I'm going to keep it in mind and keep an eye out if it happens again, I expect it will. I'm also going to rummage around for something to log what is going on. I think I can find something over at System Internals, just have to figure out which one to try first. I have a hunch that if it is another program I stand a better chance of finding out which when the problem is happening since it is not at all consistant. FWIW-brand new factory clean install of Win10 with drivers only. I have turned off all of the data collection junk but haven't gotten to completely setting up the machine. Here is what loads at start up. Maybe we overlap with something odd? The only one of these that I have ever had issue with is Logitech and that was back a ways with a different driver.
  14. tools, layout, edit layout lines-is that what you're looking for? icon should be the there too
  15. Do you have grid snaps turned on? That can do it.
  16. Just happened again- brand new plans. Close and reopen Chief solved it. Not reproducible by tech so far.
  17. If you search back a little you will find a few people using the Surface pro fir what you are considering. There are other options for light and thin available. Should be more over the next couple months with new GPUs coming. The first ones are expected to be in gaming machines. I only use a laptop, needs are different, so I decided against thin and light for now. Found some useful information wading through the forums at notebook review.com (lot of gamers but others mixed in). Xoticpc.com carries several brands of gaming machines, good place to compare. (there's a 3-1/2 lb Asus that looks sweet. Razor has a few nice light and thin machines.
  18. I had to close and re-open for it to work. Tried for half hour late so, then was on phone with tech support for a while and nada. Reopened the original plan before I sent it in and the problem remained. Only the save as got to working.
  19. I tried it with Bluebeam and Chief-both were fine.Have no idea.
  20. Scott got it to work without reboot. The plan I renamed wouldn't work, then closed it. Reopened it and it worked. Checked the original no working plan and that still did not work when I reopened it. Zipped it and sent it off to your folks to play with-I spoke with Michael on the phone so sent it to him since we had such a grand time about it all Bottom line is I'm up and running.
  21. Well I'm known for that.
  22. Weird-two plans, likely started in X7. Copied from second plan-first plan would not let me paste. Opened new plan-paste fine. Tried different objects-no paste. Tried to save as for the offending plan, still couldn't paste into it. This is all on new machine, new install, Win 10. I got around it-first did an edit area and copied the plan that I could not paste into and pasted that into a new plan. This was while waiting on the phone for support. Then after getting off the phone and going about packaging up the plan to send in. I decided to open it again-presto works now. Any ideas? ever run into this? I hope it is not something I run into more but ...
  23. Yeah still there. They did fix the toe kick on the clips though and I'll take what they did to cabinet sides over fixing this 10 days out of 7. OTOH I discovered a much easier fix. -shift select the cabinet and block it-the clips will be persistent. You can block the cabinet with clips, block then tab the block to open it and add clips-doesn't matter if a cabinet is already next to it or not- the clips will show up (on all 4 corners though) It does not solve the issue of having clips on one side with a range on the other but hey...can't always get what you want.
