The Wall Break Tool was Depreciated in X12 I think? as the Break Tool now does Walls too and to Pin you need to use the thumbtack button like other objects, however, I still have the Wall Break tool on my Toolbar though, I am finding I am slowly getting used to the "All in One" Break Tool but preferred the double Click for complete Break on other objects to the 2nd Icon now. Try setting the material's Roughness to 0% on the Properties Tab. ( make sure it is not set to a Matte Material as well ) Mick.

Import old plan into new template with new settings
Kbird1 replied to RobUSMC's topic in General Q & A
I was doing it the way Ben suggested, but switched to EDIT AREA , when I learned from Canvas that all their Plans are done in X12, which at least for me seems to be a problem in X14. Mick. -
As the others mentioned look into saving one of your current Drawing where everything is setup as your New Plan Template. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03094/creating-custom-templates-from-existing-projects.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00463/creating-and-using-a-plan-template.html Mick.

Import old plan into new template with new settings
Kbird1 replied to RobUSMC's topic in General Q & A
You can also Use EDIT > EDIT AREA > (Choose Option Type) and Paste into a New Plan which uses your Latest Template, The most typical Warning is a different ceiling Elevation which can be ignored and then set as needed via the New Plan Defaults. * I won't say it's the perfect method as anything NOT at Default will remain so..... but I think there will always be "repairs" needed no matter the method but I use this method for Plans from Canvas as they are all done in X12 and I still find Plans especially X12 cause issues like Random Lockups in X14. Do other 3D Apps/Games work with 3D , as that looks like GPU Corruption meaning the GPU would be bad in the new Laptop if All 3D Apps have the same Issue? could also be a Mac Driver GPU Issue / incompatibility with Chief ? I am not sure if Student's get Free Tech support , but I would call them or submit a case through your Chief Account Login. M.

I don't think anyone, at least not me, was arguing the above points and it is unfortunate that we are still dealing with this, as I see when searching early for the how to link I was in a thread in 2014 about how to do this.... And there are a few different ways as Ryan and other's have mentioned depending on circumstance but lately as a Client has been spec-ing Keutha Ithaca Railings, which needs 3 different Newels ( Corner, Mid, End ) I have been placing them Manually and using the Straight Deck Edge and a No Room Definition Wall to do the Panels in Glass or Cable as in the Pic below on the current Project.
-
Not sure what Ryan and Rob did above but the old method was..... in Elevation to turn the railing off in the Wall's DBX temporarily, drag bottom down the desired distance and then turn the Railing back on . Here is an old post of "how to" https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17243-railings/?do=findComment&comment=144845 M.

, I was using Line over STD View to show the Vent better and it seems Chief's default Lap siding has the Pattern set Correctly but the texture is 1 board off ie 32" vs 36" tall for the 9 board Image M.

Post pics directly , use the Windows Snipping Tool or some other screen capture program please ( personally I won't click on unknown links on a web forum ) Search the Forum for Fascia Mounted Railings there are a few threads on it and sample plans.... This is because it automatically recesses to the main layer on the Foundation Wall and that being the Concrete, it is buried in the Siding, unfortunately the Recessed option is greyed out since there is only one layer ( I assume) , and since it seems the Hole display is the Issue not the Vent itself, I'd personally do as Mike suggests and convert the Vent (Window) into a symbol (Fixture) with the insert into wall option ( 6-8") , so it can be adjusted to match the current project Siding/trim details and using the Vents,Foundation Layer be turned off in Plan View when not needed. Mick Try this one...........FDN_Vent_MHD.calibz
-
Try putting the Vents on a dedicated Vents, Foundation Layer so it can be on in 3D and off in Plan View . If the Layer is on in the Library Item, it should come in with the Symbol if need. M.

Interior Windows and Doors Varying Casing Width
Kbird1 replied to Kerry5602's topic in General Q & A
Yes , use the Lintel and Sill Options , if you draw your own Molding Profile you can even have the Crown and Parting Bead as part of the Lintel ( Header Trim ) if needed ( turning on Wrap to return molding to wall ) I would use the Basic Sill and turn on the Apron perhaps , the Apron is automatically the same size as the Casing including the Sill Depth, so if needed you can also draw your own sill Molding including the Apron too. No seen that Issue before..... did you just upgrade to X14? did you reboot the computer afterwards? ( usually helps with chief "Weirdness" ) M.

This means nearly always you have two schedules somewhere , eg one in plan and another in a CAD Detail. M.
-
No as mentioned Chief does this dynamically based on Floor structure and adding 6 - 8" for ground clearance that is require by code in most areas. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00938/how-the-height-of-floors-relate-to-the-height-of-the-terrain.html M.

Another monitor ? , possibly one no longer connected or turned off ? M.

It's a bit brute force but you can reset the DBXs in Preferences.....

yes...... the Arrow Key bumps are the same as your Snap Unit in Defaults > Layout

You still aren't saying or better showing us what Height you are changing ...and why, so we really can't help explain things better for you sorry. M.
-
Yes make sure you always build a Roof and/or story above and a Foundation / Monoslab below and turn down the default sun Lumens from 100,000 to 5000. M.

Polyline solids not showing in Plan yet slab is....
Kbird1 replied to John_Charles's topic in General Q & A
I've seen some strange height issues in X14 so you could Check the Objects Absolute Height if it is below 0" for example it would show on Level 0 not Level 1 as an example.... but it is more likely that on conversion it is changing layers to one not displayed. M.
