  1. You can get exact measurements in an elevation view or if you select and open the item (I.e. a window) and open it (dbl click or ctrl./cmd. E) the dbx will give you the information in regards to elevations such as from floor to lower and to top. So if you have a window it will tell you the bottom is 32” from floor and the top is 80” from floor so you would know it is 16” from clg... very basic example but maybe something that will help. I know that I use the measure in obj files from matterport scans sometimes and it is never exact but rather a close proximity as 3d measuring is all based on angle of view and of item you are measuring. It probably doesn’t help with what you are looking for but maybe something.
  2. Welcome to the forum. You will get lots of excellent help here from some real experts! If you would please take the time to setup your signature line to include your software as well as computer hardware information many times this information comes into play with the answers. Since everyone wants to help but also has limited time this helps get you more answers and assistance. Tape measure as far as I am aware is only a 2d tool. Try an elevation shot.
  3. Unfortunately sidecar has limitations to the newest hardware and my Mac Pro 6.1 doesn’t support it. But I willcheck into duet for Mac. thanks I might give this a ahot

Also for what it's worth the two reasons this could be happening are either as Mark mentioned in your rendering technique settings you have the glass set to opaque or if you have been using the spray can painter tool and accidentally painted it with the plan option set even in another section of your plan it would affect all the glass in the plan.
  5. You are awesome! Thanks Rene. I will take a look later today.
  6. I read about that with PC when I was figuring it out when I first got my E-GPU but I used it for six months as main computer (obviously with external monitor) and still use it while traveling with no problem whatsoever. It’s pretty obvious when you start doing more than 1 elevation or 3d view with the regular GPU but the egpu set for chief to use only it has been great. I just recently updated my main machine and am loving the capabilities of it!
  7. This can also be done as I mentioned by application so it doesn’t burn up your battery for programs that don’t need it.
  8. In that menu there is an option that says “get info”. It’s on the pop up that brings up.
  9. So not sure if it is this way with the dual video onboard but I use an external gpu with my MacBook (2017 13”) and when you select the Chief app icon and right click get info you need to select the e-gpu to use it when available. This made the difference for me. Maybe it could it be that is the issue with your guys’ MBpro 16?
  10. I have a cad detail that has mixed drawing and pdf (portal frame detail from Simpson) that I use. but sorry my only thought why it might not have been working. Granted I haven’t done it lots but the times I have so far including testing it after this was mentioned was successful as Michael mentioned.
  11. The reason I asked is I thought it was richard that mentioned in another post that he uses some cad details that have some pdf referenced cad details among his drawn cad details...
  12. Probably not it but are the cad details that you are copying the layout by chance pdf referenced details and not drawn details? Maybe might cause the issue???
  13. Try saving before you putting in the room also you could try the stair open above tool when you select the stair set on the lower floor it should show up and create an auto stairwell. You can adjust the walls after that point. May help?
  14. Really what everyone is saying regarding separate files is the best approach. With Chief you can have a base file then saved options and you can do a reference file in a layout to show the options together or however you want it. Don’t think about it as two files but rather different sections of the job just like the layout and plan files are two different files as well as all the referenced files you don’t really realize (until you backup save a job.)
  15. I guess I was thinking making the lower pony a 12” wide poured stem wall with a molding making the chamfer section of the wall splitting the pony wall and then setting the wall as a foundation wall to set your footing position and size... just a thought haven’t tried it yet.
  16. Could it be done with a pony wall and molding as well? Setting up the molding to flush out with the lower wall? Was just a thought, not at my computer at the moment.
  17. Thanks for the tip. I have used that method before as I know that is what Dan baumann recommends as well. I have alot of clients who want color on their elevations so I generaly do the other method. But great info for ones who don't know how to use the masks!
  18. This is the way I do my regular elevations below grade. I draw a box over the grade area then trace the foundation lines on a elevations hidden lines layer I created with a dark gray dashed line, then fill the poly line with background solid fill. Send it to layout and crop to size and leaves a nice line for the grade and everything below grade is a nice dashed outline. Works great but as already mentioned it would depend upon what you wanted to do with the dwg file.
  19. Any pointers on how you got it to work?
  20. Steve’s videos on dormers really help out as they are very specific and show the different ways.
  21. Good point Erick. I commented on my phone so didn’t notice. Erick is right and you will learn it will not only help people be more mindful of your posts but if they are in the right spot on the forum you will get more help!
  22. Nice explanation Michael. this is describing better what I said up above. Sometimes with attic walls they will rejoin pretty quickly which is why I mentioned switching the layer side temporarily (and you don’t have to offset as you described as that will show bad in vector mode). material regions are definitely the way to do it if you are just trying to model it. As a lot of my jobs I also do BOQs for them I try to make my model as accurate as possible so I would change the wall type as Michael nicely described in detail. That way all walls will be accounted for accurately especially if you include a wall legend for your plans.
  23. Just drag an image file not a pdf into the window. Or attach an image not a pdf
  24. Chief will always try to help with human error or what it perceives is HE so it tries to rejoin them. you found one way. To keep it from temporarily happening split the wall and flip the direction of the middle wall while you change it to a new wall style or the others in your case for the stone/brick. Then flip the wall back and you should be good.
