  1. Literally submitted this on Tuesday and got my answer on Wednesday from chief. ”Thank you for contacting Technical Support regarding this toolbar issue.I’m sorry you are experiencing this frustration with the toolbars. We have had a couple of other customers experience this same issue with the toolbars, but our developers are still trying to reproduce the issue here so that the cause can be identified and addressed. Thank you for submitting the details of your setup as this helps our developers with trying to reproduce the issue.Although we don’t currently have a solution to prevent this, there are a couple of steps you can take to restore your custom toolbars when it happens. Once you customize your toolbars, you will want to go into your Chief Architect Premier X12 Data folder (normally located in your Documents folder) and make a copy of the Toolbars folder (naming it something like Toolbars Customized). If your toolbars then get smashed you can use that copy of your toolbars folder to restore them. The first thing to try when the toolbars get smashed it to undock and/or re-dock your side windows such as your Library Browser. Another user that has experienced this issue reported this restoring their toolbars. If that doesn’t work then, save your work, close Chief and navigate to the your Chief Architect Premier X12 Data folder. Copy your Toolbars Customized folder to the Toolbar folder and relaunch Chief. That should restore your customized toolbars without having to re-customize them.Once again, I’m sorry you are experiencing this. If it happens again, please note what you were doing in the program, what views were open, the setup of your windows, etc. I hope this information helps.” This is what I heard when I called in at the beginning release of x12. Not a week after that they released an update amd the problem disappeared till about two months ago. Now it’s very random sometimes three weeks and doesn’t happen then three times in a week.
  2. Isn't that kind of a high accuracy difference? Thats almost 5" off in 20'... Which is not unrealistic to have a larger room in a larger home Master bedroom or Great room. Matterport boasts a max of 1% and that is alot in some cases which is why I require a hover.to scan in addition to a matterport for as-builts if I am doing them for one of my contractors.
  3. So a question for some of the Ray Tracing and PBR experts here... As I understand it this is a new rendering engine completely for Chief not just the ray trace part. I didn't see any mention to how that will affect the PBR (which honestly is all that I do at most) as I do more construction documentation and design and on those jobs that I need help with I use someone with lots of experience to get me what I need. So any thoughts on if this will make things different for PBR?
  4. There have been a lot of these same questions for the stairs and there are multiple ways. One being what Erik mentioned but some other ways as well. Do a search as I believe there was a good video dome on one of them by @Alaskan_Son on one of them.
  5. I don’t use the beams or posts at all on my decks. I use the auto deck framing to start then turn it off with the retain framing option selected then I manually place beams and posts per conditions. That being said if you do a lot of them you can copy the balcony room and set the flooring to planks and the structure to pressure treated to frame it how you want then add your beams and posts as usual. For a standard basic deck the OOB settings work fine but there are so many variables across the US let alone Europe and Australia that manual adjustments for final product is part of a long cad program.
  6. Check out in the wall structures tab "through wall at start and end" Also there is a tool when the wall is selected that looks like a dark blue L in the edit menu that allows you to edit individual layers of the wall to overlap for example allow the brick to pass in front of the concrete wall but not the framed wall. But check out the help files about those tools.
  7. What I do as well, and I also color coordinate the revision clouds and put a revision cloud around the revision number in the schedule so it is easier to see. I do not differentiate between engineer and ahj changes.
  8. You need to make sure that the settings for that default is going to the correct layer as you have several and oob they are set to go to electrical or electrical connections layers.
  9. Another option is to have a set that selects only main wall layer or center of interior walls and to center of openings then go back as Gene mentions and manually remove the locations of the interior walls.
  10. Generally use one or two that I have made using the cabinet tools and saved into my library. Seems like I have seen a couple in a bonus catalog and a couple in Kohler. You can of course go to 3d warehouse or one of the other sites and download a model but they tend to be very heavy in surfaces so they usually slow the plan file down a bit. Btw welcome to the forum! If you would be so kind to fill out your signature so that when you ask future questions everyone knows what software and hardware you are working with it greatly helps everyone.
  11. Same thing as Mick is saying that even if you started with Auto roofs if you made a change even to a material type (such as spray painting a texture to change roof color or trim color) it pops up a warning dbx that many do not read completely which is basically saying by doing this you are turning off auto-roof rebuild do you want to continue. If you are going to auto-rebuild the roof to bring it up the difference then you will lose any of these changes you made. If you don't want that to happen you can also use the edit all roof planes tool to adjust it. Or group select the roof planes and use the "transform/replicate" tool to move it up in the Z axis.
  12. David and I were both responding at the same time and after looking at both posts something we both didn’t mention that will help if you don’t use the snippet or grab screen (on phone so can’t see your signature to see if PC or Mac). Both versions have built in snipping tools as well as Chief itself. In both windows and Mac OS you can set the snipping tool to copy on to your digital clipboard and then you just go back to Chief and Ctrl+V or Cmd+V to paste it onto the layout directly without having to save anything to your hard drive.
  13. Screenshot the map and paste it into the layout as a picture. Crop and use cad tools for any other info you need on top of it.
  14. There are rumors that AMD has a new GPU for the new Mac silicone processors.
  15. I am super happy with both of my systems (see signature below.) I use chief daily on them and have no complaints. Maybe a little bummed that the new RTRT wont be available but there are rumors that with next weeks releases that may be adjusted.
  16. Last time I used the cafe series they had the right appliances but not all of the appliance finishes. I did a quick mask with a solid in place of the handle for a rendering.
  17. Change the fireplace wall to no room definition. Also set your wall elevation to ignore railings.
  18. This actually has been addressed previously on this forum as I remember it. I think it is a few years back though. I believe it was Chop or Michael who pointed out that this is possible and how chief is designed to be adaptable across so many situations. Really the railing wall with post and beam is for straightforward type situations and if we need precise placement then placing the posts and beams manually is required. Just like you would be setting where you want the floor to and where you want the posts would be set in two applications you would just use two "tools" to show it how you want it. That all being said I am sure that they could probably accomplish what you are asking for but it would also complicate the dbx more to the point that you would need to be a more advanced user to understand it and use it properly. So it is probably a consideration for them as well to keep things simple enough as well for overall use. Now with all THAT being said I like your suggestion to have more control over the floor overhang. I think that could be accomplished quite easily with minimal changes to the dbx.
  19. Very kind of you Michael to provide this. Very simple tool and will help me personally as even though I could always able to get it by using the tools we have this streamlines the process. I personally would like to see the overall suggestion here written up by someone who can very clearly write up the two options so that it can receive the proper attention by Chief.
  20. Layout boxes use c or X when holding down corner to resize picture boxes you can grab the corner and drag.
  21. If you see the item in any view and select it you can see the layer below.
  22. I downloaded your plan files as well as the layout and did nothing at all except send the saved plan view to layout with entire plan from both files and got the same results with no error at all. I did notice when you toggle on your sheet view in plan that you are off of 0,0 a little bit but doesn't seem to make any difference. Regardless of size of sheet for the plan file It gave me the same extents for the layout box but fit just fine on the sheet as well. There was no cropping needed.
  23. As Joey mentioned just crop them out. Personally I like to use send current view to send to layout and have it zoomed into what I want to show. Less cropping and positioning that way.
