  1. Bill: no muss, no fuss just totally hidden from common sense Lew
  2. glad to help clarify I don't ever remember setting the drawing sheet ratio it probably is 1:1 by default ??? been using Chief since ver 9.5 Lew
  3. are you printing straight to printer or PDF first PDF is preferred you may want to post pics of the print dbx's Lew
  4. for some reason known only to CA cause it sure doesn't make sense ..... if you run plan check under MENU - TOOLS it reactivates the "living space" calc if you have it selected in plan defaults this is so NON user-friendly it boggles the mind Lew
  5. Dan: did you mean the plan should be 1:1 ??? then when you send to layout you usually would choose 1/4" ??? Lew
  6. it is possible to consider a circle a polygon with "infinite sides" CA just needs to fix the Polygon Shaped Room tool to allow for this http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/55097.html Can they do it ??? Lew
  7. nope, 360 sides doesn't work either and the walls are more messed up at the final area Lew
  8. ok, I tried 100 sides with radius to side of 5' Chief is having issues with the final connection area I suspect that if CA worked on this tool somewhat they might be able to get a circle I'm trying 360 sides now .... Lew
  9. Hmmm, It looks like a round room not sure what all the excess lines are about ? the living area calc is 0 Lew
  10. something like the Polygon shaped room dbx ? I'm trying X5 with 1000 sides at 1/16" but the clock is spinning .... that didn't work, lots of excess lines all over the place trying 1000 sides with radius to side of 5' - nothing happening ? Lew
  11. try placing new folder on HD as a regular folder then move that folder to Dropbox or Sugarsync folder Lew
  12. I would recommend running XP However, note that Microsoft no longer supports XP so don't connect to the internet at all ever to avoid virus's etc If you do upgrade Chief, I would recommend avoiding X3 due to significant hassles with the library system probably best to get X4 or later Lew
  13. do some searches on the old forum there were some who were able to get ver 10 to run on Vista properly you could go to CA's website and find the correct driver download however, ver 10 wasn't written for Vista so you may find some "issues" also, try right clicking on the ver 10 .EXE and select "run as admin..." Lew
  14. or the price of SSA could have gone up even more ??? I buy the manuals and hardware lock with each release it was the cost of doing business now that I am retired and only using chief for personal preservation projects I plan to continue upgrading for now its not that expensive to stay current the future ??? Lew
  15. I had an HP 9800 and the first time I changed the color cart. it wouldn't recognize the color cart I checked Google and it was a known problem that didn't seem to have a solution I bought a Canon Pro 9000 to replace it (there are newer models now) another factor to look for separate ink carts for each color real costly to replace a combo color cart when only one color runs out Lew
  16. X6 can open ver 10 plans but if saved as X6 then ver 10 can't open them Lew
  17. 1. Universal updates to all Layouts when the CAD Detail is edited. there can be a downside in making a change to a layout for a project that was completed and "closed" if the layout is viewed again after the change it would not be the same as when filed, approved, closed this could lead to confusion and/or mistakes perhaps each detail should have a revision date even then one would have to notice the newer date Lew
  18. Greg: I came close with ver 10 tried to get a real understanding of what tools/features were available but to really understand them you have to try them, each and every setting that would take a few ages I suggest concentrating on the tools you use or think you will use with most projects and get them down "pat" then learn something new until you have it "pat" then the next that also will take ages but probably won't melt the brain that way because before you can master X6, X7 will arrive and then X8 you can never "master" chief - way too complicated increase understanding - yes master - no Lew

    Updates

Its a PITA not being able to do that. Ron: yep, but reality can be a PITA Chief is way too complicated to do backward compatibility the only way to do it would be for Chief to ignore anything that was new to X6 when saving as X5 this would leave big gaping gaps in the model it would also create unconnected pieces and parts and Chief can't handle little bits of stuff floating around not connected to other bits of stuff It would be a major PITA having to examine every "corner" of a model to see what was F'd up or not then if you miss something was missing or F'd up ??? Lew
  20. Ron: sorry I wasn't clear but I was agreeing with you the Disto Plus was overkill If I had to do it again I would get the $100 Stanley Lew
  21. Mary Anne: sounds like a roof to me try the auto roof gen or place roof planes manually or just use Polyline solids as needed Lew
  22. Ron: I think the Disto Plus can do 1/16" at 300' the Stanley was 1/4" at 100' If I remember correctly way to many models since then to know what they can do 1/4" should be good for most measures I would model to 1/16 then as needed accept up to 2" discrepancies that couldn't be resolved final plans were set to 1/2" or sometimes 1" depending on need Lew
  23. Ron: if I tried that by hand it would look like a 5 year did them actually, the 5 year old could probably do better Lew
  24. I wish they 'd pay attention to it and update the program. update to "what" CA needs to know what is causing the issue before they can fix it have you been working with tech support ? have they made any determination ? if this was a common problem you would be seeing lots of screaming posts on this forum it doesn't matter how powerful your PC is if it has a "flaw" while it maybe CA's problem it most likely isn't I'm sure this is very frustrating but it's best to assume it is your issue until proven that it is chief even if other software runs fine Chief could be putting a demand on your PC that it can't handle - even if it should be able to handle it Lew
  25. Perry: I understand its a lot easier never did hand-drawing - couldn't even try - can't draw a straight line with a ruler Chief makes it possible for me to do some of this work that's why we make suggestions - to make it even easier just look what an "antique" ver 9.5 is - back then we thought it was "super" Lew
