  1. Ross: you will need to post the plan otherwise, just guesses Lew
  2. I ran into this problem had to turn my antivirus software off during the download process be sure to turn it back on soonest Lew
  3. HD products don't have polyline solids Lew
  4. Nvidia gaming card with a minimum of 1 GB of video ram an i7 or equivalent CPU a minimum of 8 GB of ram 17" screen minimum brand - roll the dice take a choice - any name brand look at reviews on Amazon and any with 100+ reviews and 4 - 5 stars they all have negative reviews if you go by that you won't be able to buy anything Lew
  5. I recommend that you use cad lines nested inside the terrain Perimeter using the TP for the lines is too limiting makes it difficult to place roads, sidewalks, neighbors buildings etc plus, I don't like seeing the "ends of the universe" when taking camera views Lew
  6. yeah, I saw the "just kidding" but then this attitude is just way too prevalent concerning suggestions so is it really "kidding" anyways - just expressing my opinion Lew
  7. You spend more time complaining about this than it takes you to fix it I just don't understand this attitude towards suggestions Lew
  8. Larry: some quesses: I have seen threads and mention of ways to recess windows and doors via settings never done it but check for prior threads or check the manual the window "bump-out" would probably need to be a molding polyline symbol type of shape applied to the wall there were threads on how to create tapered walls by using standard chief walls \ and then applying the "taper" just thoughts from my memory Lew
  9. Wouldn't it be so simple to just have a button to toggle them on and off. Yes, it would be nice to have options.... Lew
  10. What I do works for me and that is all the happy I need David: very well said.... Lew
  11. it should be a preference setting to have rooms labels off Chief should set the room type based on the room it is being created from but the room label can be anything or can be turned off awhile back Chief would revert to the defaults and this would cause grief lots of grief for messing up floor and ceiling heights etc CA's solution was to retain the properties from the original room Lew
  12. since I can't draw my method varied from Scott's during initial visit with client to discuss project I would take photos lots of photos at home I would print the photos after changing to very bright - almost washed out in photo editor to save black ink print the photos and draw dim lines for everything I would want a dim for when I do the site visit for measurement back at home create the chief as-built model hope I don't have to go back for another site visit to confirm/fix a dim I have seen postings over the last decade where the poster takes their laptop or tablet and create the basic as-built floorplan on site within 2 - 4 hrs I haven't a clue how they can do that .... Lew
  13. Chief doesn't user drivers except for the hardware lock even then those drivers are provided by the lock vendor you may need to update your video card drivers ? Lew
  14. probably not, HD Interiors has very limited capability in all aspects in relation to Chief Premier also this library is probably in X6 format which is newer than Interiors 2014 while HD users can benefit from this forum, especially HD PRO users you will find that the better forum for most HD products is the Hometalk forum Lew
  15. positive reputation points could be a good thing IF handed out reasonably as suggested negative reputation points can only lead to trouble most likely causing flame wars and retaliations etc CA should disable negative reputation points Lew
  16. Combustion without ventilation scares me... I sorta agree I was researching ventless gas fireplaces last year the consensus seemed to be that they can be ok - if run for social to run continuous could be an issue once I saw that I decided vented would be my choice Lew
  17. it is recommended to name the garage to have Chief create the garage with curb cuts etc room names have meaning to chief room labels can be "anything" follow Bills' suggestion in post #5 Lew
  18. If I understand your query ??? Chief is already set for North to be the top of the screen it is recommended to have the "front door" face the bottom of the screen rotate the terrain as needed to match the house Lew
  19. I'm at a loss as to why more people aren't frustrated with all these little things that don't work in Chief. My advice would be to fix this stuff and forget about making more features. Ron: I agree especially with the first part I'm surprised that some users ever bothered upgrading from the first version of Chief they started with it must have been 'perfect" for them Lew
  20. Ron: it can be Chief unless you become a wizard with stairs just for fun - once you have the multi-story stairwell with all its components created for railings and newels etc pretend the client requests that it be moved to a new location you'll really get frustrated then Lew
  21. Glenn: maybe a master of terrain can keep everything straight in a single plan the rest of us mere mortals find it easier to have separate plans same thing with roofs for multiple buildings when using the roof auto-gen if all the roofs are being done manually then it wouldn't matter Lew
  22. Everything quickly breaks down if you have multiple buildings or out-buildings this is one reason why I put all other buildings in separate plans then make symbols to be placed in the main plan roofs is another reason for separate plans Lew
  23. So Lew, with your experience and in your opinion, is the topic of this thread a "workaround"? Glenn: huh ??? when I see solutions like "make it 1/16" thicker" that's a workaround Use the new Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool this is not a workaround Embrace the workaround until CA figures out every possible scenario that may arise absolutely, but also rant and rant some more or CA will assume the workaround is good enough Lew
