  1. All these programs do is make the work a little easier Michael: yep, that is the goal.... Lew
  2. the red glasses help to see the red dot on some days even they don't help Lew
  3. if those things are needed have an engineer draw them up Mike: so, engineers shouldn't want to use Chief ? I have mapped out MEP for residential projects using workarounds in chief and then sent those floorplans to the MEP trades for their review and approval sometimes they used my "suggestions" in their own drawings that they signed/submitted othertimes they sent them back with changes" which we implemented in chief and then the builder signed/submitted it really helps for the designer to at least consider where the MEP runs could/should go to avoid conflicts It would be nice it Chief had full-blown MEP tools that could use BIM to determine or avoid collision detection etc if CA were ever to go this route I would/have recommended that they consider using modules that can be purchased separately by those who need it at a minimum there should be MEP tools similar to the simple electrical tools chief currently has for basic mapping of MEP needs I can tell you almost nobody needs the so called "code compliance" tools the OP brought up maybe yes - maybe no that is for CA to determine Lew
  4. Mike: unfortunately some slam a suggestion simply because they have never needed it the poster makes the suggestion because they DO need it I seriously doubt CA would implement a suggestion based on one posters request there would have to be "enough" to make it worthwhile for them to expend resources when "enough" is reached the number of naysayers is irrelevant Lew
  5. Mike: Yes, ALL sonic "laser" models are worthless the laser is for visual only - not used in the measuring I bought a Leica Disto Pro in 2005 for $700 soon after that they introduced $100 models sold under the Stanley name etc I thought I needed all the fancy features the PRO offered yet ended up using it in simple mode - I still have it and use it I'm not up on the current models so shop wisely and beware of feature it is.... Lew
  6. Anyone has a "right" to make a suggestion CA has the "right" to implement or ignore that suggestion all others can only have "opinions" about that suggestion Lew
  7. Chief's terrain tools can handle zero step entry set floor heights as needed then grade the terrain for visitability and drainage here is some info for FYI on zero step entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visitability http://www.jlconline.com/aging-in-place/building-zero-step-entries.aspx http://builderfish.com/blog/how-to-build-a-zero-step-entry Lew
  8. Michael: Yet, CA is the final judge Lew
  9. There are many things in chief that I need and many I don't I think that could be said of anyone on this forum remember if you fight someone's wish list then they are probably fighting yours probably best to let each user create their own wish list and let CA sort them out concerning priority and feasibility etc Lew
  10. Kevin: MEP tools have been requested for over a decade I wouldn't count on seeing them anytime soon Lew
  11. Andrew: probably best to contact CA's tech support see post #7 in this thread: http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?61466-Workstation-Graphics-Card-vs-Gaming-Graphics-Card&highlight=GAMING+QUADRO Lew
  12. I had horrible issues with "make copy" when I first ran into it mainly cause I didn't even know about it or that it was being used in the 9.5 plan we were helping a fellow chiefer finalize I had to go thru and get rid of all the copies otherwise I was getting duplicate changes, changes not showing etc when it was discussed on the forum since then most of the gurus recommended avoiding it big time I have never tried it since and as Perry stated just don't see a reason to add that level of confusion but as they say "to each his own" Lew
  13. yes, with the old .PLx files all of the "system" info was stored in the .PL1 file Lew
  14. Using Make copy" seems to only cause grief having all those extra layersets only seems to cause confusion this has been discussed many times on the forum and the general recommendation is to avoid using "make copy" unless you are well aware of how to use it and "issues" it can cause one of the primary "issues" is making changes and not seeing them in layout the changes are there but they are on one of the "copies" change to that layerset and you should see the changes Lew
  15. Jared: you are correct also, the client probably has PB0, PB1 etc files\ those are backups Lew
  16. Kirk: I have said and others have said that reputation points is a nice idea that just won't work as intended It can only lead to flame wars etc It will be abused and it will be worthless Lew
  17. Yes, for years CA has been recommending Nvidia and gaming cards CA also recommends as many cores as you can afford more CPU ram and video ram is also recommended Lew
  18. Reputation points are given by users - either good or bad this is a very bad idea and can only lead to "flame wars" warning points are given by the moderators for "bad" behavior Lew
  19. not yet supposedly on its way when ? Lew
  20. Jeff: that truly is depressing Lew
  21. Bob: no idea ??? probably best to contact CA's tech support on Monday if you saved the download to your HD you could put in on a USB drive and install from there Lew
  22. the problem is that CA has no way of knowing if you gave that lock and software to someone else while retaining a copy for your self thus, if they replace a lost lock then they might be giving away a sale... if the lock is broken then CA will replace it for a small fee stolen locks they decide on a case by case basis you can also ask for someone to donate their old lock if they have upgraded I have donated my 9.5 and 10 and X1 keys to various needy users CA requests that the donor verify that the needy one has a valid license Lew
  23. Victor: have you been working with CA's tech support ? Lew
  24. Mitch: you are VERY,VERY lucky the cost quote should have been $1595.... CA doesn't replace lost hardware keys so as Perry your only option would have been upgrading to X6 CA says to treat the key the same as cash a business can purchase NAMED insurance to cover lost business property BTW: why feel like you had been slapped ? it's not CA's fault you almost lost the key.... Lew
