  1. Mark: I generally recommend buying Premier for "everyone" even a homeowner doing only their house once the project is done - they can sell it and recoup most of the money just about anyone in business should have Premier Lew
  2. I thought CA gave full credit when upscaling to a better version ? upgrading is going to a newer version and that will entail an extra cost as you are getting newer features etc Lew
  3. Dan Bauman just gave a free webinar about chief tips his recommendation is to think of annosets as the old drafting stencils one for 1/4", another for 1/2" etc he recommends against using too many annosets unless you really need them or know how to control all of them having an annoset per layerset seems redundant Dan will be offering X6 classes soon at WWW.CHIEFEXPERTS.COM as of May 15 he will no longer be offering a lifetime memberships after that there will be a fee per class (unless free) just like CA does Lew
  4. Joe: we used to do condocs no need for them now even now I think Chief is the better choice for our preservation projects we have many layersets then and now I'm guessing that if we were to use annosets they would be set to use the current layerset - at least for most of them Lew
  5. Joe: in principle I understand and agree with your method Scott simply has a Layerset for every Annoset and an Annoset for almost every Layerset. this seems to be "overkill" at least for my understanding of the benefit/purpose of anno-sets I applaud Scott for going "above and beyond" just not sure it is for "everyone" I think most chiefers would benefit from starting with your method and then moving towards Scotts - but only as needed to leap right into Scott's method ??? Lew
  6. Perry: I don't do any of that manually now so not sure how annosets could help do it auto-magically ??? as we model now we change layersets as needed but not scale, text, dims etc Lew
  7. Perry: I agree, if I was still in business I would be using annosets just don't see a need for them for the few personal preservation projects I'm fooling around with there is no need for condocs for these projects at best we hope to display the 3D models on Google earth for historical buildings long gone as "virtual preservation" Lew
  8. Joe: this makes sense to me still not sure I understand Scott's method Scott: what are you doing beyond what Joe does ? since I'm retired I'm not sure I will ever need annosets but if I do I'd like to understand how I would need to best use them Lew
  9. Hmmm, a very open-ended question only you can make that decision CA does have a features comparison chart on the Homedesigners site and the Chief Premier site probably best to look those over then come back and ask more specific questions focused on your needs also depends on your business plan etc Chief Premier Interiors would seem the logical choice - but ??? CA does have a nice upgrade policy of applying the full cost of a product towards the upgrade to a higher product so start where you think you need to start then be prepared to move up as needed also contact CA' sales team as they can discuss your needs and advise Lew
  10. which version of HD Suite do you have ? if a chiefer offers to help they will need to have the compatable version they will also need to set the HD edit flag so that you can open their revised plan depending on the changes they make you may not be able to edit some areas of the plan so if you need changes done in those areas they might need to do them Lew
  11. Richard: you've been lucky I had clients that barely knew how to turn on a PC Lew
  12. no, I can see that Bill as +1 and that Perry had -3 Lew
  13. yes, the forum software is by a vendor but CA is the "owner" I stay logged in but in the last few weeks I have been getting logged out Once I re-boot I am good until .... the first time it happened I called CA their response was "oh, well... too bad" Lew
  14. Scott: I agree, no more posting until Perry is back this is ridiculous he should call CA's customer service and pitch a fit if he's not back by tomorrow I will call and pitch a fit Lew
  15. the whole idea is a farce Lew
  16. you will have to contact CA's customer service on Monday I always write my key on my disc that way if I have the disc - I have the key I also always buy the hardware lock Lew
  17. it would be nice if CA would get rid of this 1/16" workaround the floor direction should be settable per room without such foolishness Lew
  18. Randy: you should re-post this query in the "seeking services" section then delete your original post also, you should note if the responder should be local and where local is or if they can work via the internet Lew
  19. Chief plans can't be saved to earlier versions Lew
  20. Check framing defaults I think ver 10 allowed for setting "framing origin" - may not be correct phrase ? or I think you can manually set "framing origin" Lew
  21. I don't think CA offers a choice if you upgrade it will be to X6 if you want X5 you would have to buy another license Best to check with CA's sales team on Monday Lew
  22. CA doesn't make prior versions available if you have X6 only then the only way to get X5 is to buy another license either on this forum or on Ebay Lew
  23. Hi, you will probably need to post the plan to avoid quesses are these walls labeled as attic walls ??? the software creates attic walls when it believes it needs them for the roof generator you may need to change various settings in the dbx's to convince the software it doesn't need the walls or change the model so it doesn't think it needs the walls or make the walls invisible and ignore them only with the plan can someone properly advise since HD PRO has the same manual tools Chief users can assist with advice you may also want to pose your query on the Hometalk forum as users there would be familiar with the limitiations that HD PRO has versus Chief be aware that if a chiefer modifies your plan you may be able edit the revised plan but if they use features that PRO doesn't have - those areas may not be editable also the chiefer needs to set a flag that allows HD products to open/edit the revised plan Chief X6 is the newest version and I'm not sure if HD PRO 2014 can work with their plans ? Lew
  24. Don't know if it is a common issue as most chiefers user PDF first I have only done PDF first since I started in 2004 with ver 9.5 using PDF has many, many advantages if you think Chief should be able to go direct to printer then you should contact CA's tech support Lew
