  1. Open and save it in X10 and then transfer it to X11 by export or in a plan file, either way, should work. Besides NO Chief Architect software "Opens" any AutoCAD files directly, you must open a plan file and then IMPORT such files using "File - Import..." DJP
  2. I switched from Windows 7 to 10 as soon as it was released. I currently have X1-x11 running on it. On a separate HD I also have Windows XP x32 that has old Versions 7, 9 and 10 that only run in XP. All run just fine. DJP
  3. Thanks for sharing the file, I have submitted a bug report to Tech Support, I guess it is work round time in the mean time. DJP
  4. A remodeling company in Dallas, Texas uses Matterport for as-builts and it works great for that purpose (a project in Dallas can then be created by me in Austin) DJP
  5. The way to accomplish that is to make a copy of the original material and name the copy 90d etc, so you end up with two materials each that is orientated in the direction you wish. The common tool to use for this is to locate the target material in "Plan Materials" and then proceed to create the "copy". DJP
  6. Develop a list of terms (word List) students will need to understand to become competent with understanding Architecture, Building Techniques, Engineering, and Computer nomenclature as you encounter them yourself. There are in addition to the Chief Architect website sites dedicated to supporting the use of Chief Architect: Chief Experts Chief Tutor Chief Skills David J. Potter Terry Munson DJP

  8. Competence is a skill gained through careful study and then lots of fails and succeeds practice. Competence takes time and is more a gauge of one's persistence than otherwise. I am not that smart but I am persistent always. DJP
  9. The first thing, when confronted by something that is misunderstood or unwanted, is to carefully confront (squarely look at) to see what the settings are, what the situation is to then understand the string of causation you are looking at. It is there for one to find, always. DJP
  10. Meaning no disrespect but on both of my PC's X11 rocks, I cannot but consider that it is your machines and personal habits that are at work here and NOT Chief Architect software. DJP
  11. Such behavior is commonly caused by a corrupt software driver. The last time I did have such a problem was back in X1 and I had a corrupt mouse driver which when updated the unwanted shutdowns ceased and did not return thereafter. I would check and update those first. DJP
  12. What do you want it to be best at is a better question and how much are or can you spend to get the "Best"??? Video cards have a very wide range of price and a wide range of difference relative to what you may or may not want them to be "fast" at. I am just saying that it is more a matter of opinion whether or not a video card is the best. It has to be best for you and your budget more importantly. My current card was the "Best" two years ago, I paid about $600.00 for it, today's best card costs considerably more to buy, there is no pat answer. DFJP
  13. The method used should match the type of person you are sharing the plan with: 1. sharing with other Chief Architect Users you should use the "Back up entire plan to zip file" command found under the "File Menu" 2. with Clients or customers I commonly use PDF, panorama and 3D Viewer files 3. Rarely I share a complete plan file when the customer/client is very computer savvy along with a Chief Client Viewer The method used should fit the receiver of the files DJP
  14. I have chief 7 -21 on my PC's (2) and they all run just fine so I would suspect your PC hardware and your software drivers. The first one I would update would be your video card drivers (update them) and see if that helps. Provided your supporting hardware is good you should have no problems running any version of Chief. DJP
  15. I can help you, please contact me. DJP
  16. Read the Reference Manual and see for yourself is my advice DJP
  17. Greg, I haven't heard from you for a long time, how are you?

  18. "Copy-Paste" is a Windows-based command (control key - C key to "copy" and Control Key - V to "Paste", not being a Mac user, I do not know how that is done there). These commands are also accessible via Chief from the "Edit" menu, take a look and then practice using those valuable commands. DJP
