  1. I'm just about full. I plan to also go over how I flip a house (and keeping it in the same location) that also has a site plan but not flipping the site plan. In other words, I'm not using the "reverse plan" tool.
  2. We have an online meeting Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 11:00am to 1:00pm (Central Time). If you would like to attend, then please send me an email using my email address shown in my signature. Feel free to call me if you need more information or questions. I plan to go over how Michael made the garage doors using cabinets. I think this is a great and fairly easy idea.
  3. Yes, I'm just not sure when yet. I've been swamped and worked through Christmas and New year's. I might have one this Saturday morning. I'll decide this evening or tomorrow.
  4. I too have had issues with roofs when bringing forward from certain versions. Some versions worked okay when bringing forward.
  5. I've had several situations where that doesn't work either.
  6. Does anybody remember what the upgrade cost is from X8 to X9?
  7. Here is an indoor basketball court I did for client who played basketball. His remodel wanted to include an indoor basketball court. I did this back in X1 but if I had to do it again now, I would use the material region tool. I believe I did make a symbol of it.
  8. You can also try this: Before trying to select a dimension string, click on the parent dimension tool on your top toolbar first, then Chief will find the dimension string first when trying to select the dimension string instead of other objects.
  9. We're doing a remodel for a 3-story townhouse now where we're adding a tube elevator. Katy down loaded a model (Sketchup file) but couldn't edit it in Sketchup so she had to edit it by deleting surfaces. The remodel is looking pretty good. I do the existing and constr. docs., she does the remodel. She got the specs from the manufacturer and modeled it to the specs.
  10. William is correct. If you have the camera "saved" in the original plan and do a "save-as" under a different name, the camera will be there in the same place. Locking it is fine if you want to be safe but not really necessary. Also as mentioned, you can not select a camera and copy it from one plan to another.
  11. Look at this thread and see if it helps. It fixed all my problems. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/10640-please-fix-manual-bay-windows-at-corners/
  12. Robert, our User Group is no longer live. It's an online meeting. Please call me at my number below or on my cell (832-754-6160). I help people in person one on one who live in Houston. BTW, I would be interested in starting a live group if a few people wanted to do it. Please email me a phone number to contact you with at my email address below.
  13. Why don't you just build your deck (deck walls) away from the home?
  14. If you imported a .DWG, you should be able to make it work...not sure about your version though.
  15. I had this problem on a plan I'm currently working on last night. All the suggestions mentioned can help which I tried but didn't help. When I close Chief and reopened, all was good.
  16. I keep everything in my library. I too have different engineers that want their own notes and details. I have a folder for each engineer. In the plans, I keep all details and stuff for the layout in cad details, then send those to the layout. Some are to scale, some are not.
  17. If you are a new user, I wouldn't recommend trying to learn the program on such a large project but... (just my opinion). You might try talking to someone on HomeTalk. Premier users have to be careful not to use tools that you don't have.
  18. I never show the expansion joints in 3D or plan views. I have a cad detail for flatwork that specifies this information that is used in the layout.
  19. Newel, I'll try looking at your plan this afternoon and see if I can help. I would do the new roof manually so as to not touch your existing roofs. I however have no idea what type of roofs you want.
  20. I use Skype or Teamviewer (free version). TeamViewer and Skype both have improved over the years.
  21. Newel, draw your new roofs manually in a "proposed plan". Have the existing plan be an "existing plan".
  22. I always use a back clip camera and can usually find where something is.
  23. Yea! I agree 100%. That's the only way I do it for construction drawings and as mentioned by Scott, you can have total control. It's not hard and it really doesn't take that long. In the time spent here talking about it, I could of had it done faster.
  24. That worked. Thank you. Didn't know you could do that and never had to in the past.
