Not posting a plan for starters. Seriously though, it's basically impossible for us to tell without seeing the plan. We could try guessing but that could take days and more often than not proves to be a waste of time.
-
We would need to see the plan to give you an accurate answer. On a side note, the detail you are showing can very easily be done by applying a molding to the exterior room.
-
The place to set the Plot line dimension settings is... Default Settings>CAD>General CAD What you probably changed is the Number Style (can be accessed in almost every DBX via the button in the lower left corner or under Preferences in the same place.

I was just playin'. I think you might need to clarify a little.

Have you tried using the Big Window tool?
-
Thanks!! Glad you liked it.

Here's a quick video of one method using Distributed Objects... I didn't go over it in the video, but you can rotate those distribution paths too if you want in order to get the look you're after. Make sure to do it before exploding them though.

Even if your symbol does not have different materials for the different components doesn't necessarily mean all is lost. Depending on the symbol you can place it in a blank plan, apply one of your desired materials, use the delete surfaces tool, and create a new symbol. Repeat the process but for the other surfaces this time and then place both of those symbols into a blank plan perfectly aligned so that they appear to be a single item and then create a new symbol. That's the gist anyway. Won't work for every situation. Show me which symbol and maybe I'll make a quick video.

Yep. One quick method to get you started... Select room, Make Room Polyline, hold down C and use one of the corner edit handles to resize, and then Convert Polyline to Material Region.

I knew what you were talking about. I was talking about notes in multiple instances too. If you want to change a note and have it change everywhere else in the plan, using Replace From Library (all instances) can do the trick as well.
-
If you are taking time to actually build a keynote library and place those into the library as Plant Symols (or whatever symbol type you're using for your keynotes), you can optionally also just use the replace from library tool to change all instances in any given plan. May not have all the benefits of using a macro but macros have their drawbacks as well.

grade distance from foundation to overcome frost level
Alaskan_Son replied to Dennis_Gavin's topic in General Q & A
Just a thought here, but have you considered using piles or helical piers and grade beams? -
Newell, All you have to do is change your floor structure settings like I believe Eric did and as Scott suggested. It's very basic stuff. With all due respect, you really need to learn to use Chief better. It seems like you come here all the time with a new project and a new question, you do very little in way of participation...in fact your posts often times come across as half baked and like you don't find it important enough to even take time to properly spell out a detailed question or response or even take the time to read and comprehend the answers you're given...and when you get an answer, very rarely do you give any credit or even a sign of gratitude. More often than not you don't even respond and have in the past refused to even give credit where credit was due. It really just feels like you're churning out a ton of projects and we're doing your work for you. Kinda seems like the type of thing you should be paying someone to do for you. Anyway, I don't want to be disrespectful or sound like a jerk, it's just how you come across and I have reason to believe I'm not the only one who sees it or feels this way. I would suggest you remember that we all have jobs too and we're volunteering our time to help people. The idea is that we help each other and if you come across as a freeloader who can't even take enough time to properly participate in their own thread, your going to very quickly burn bridges.

Thanks for the tip Glenn. I like that method better. Wouldn't work for exterior walls or interior walls with different layers on each side, but for standard railings and standard interior walls I'd definitely say it's superior to the wall type copy technique. You get a gold star.
-
You could start by attaching the plan and layout.
-
Yes, as far as "healing" is concerned I have found the method to be foolproof.

Alan, I'm not sure you read my post very well. Nothing weird is going on. I'm going off memory here, but if I recall correctly, W14 is set to Show Component Labels but you have suppressed 2 of those component labels and the 3rd you have specified as Triple 28 72 SH (YOU added that label). Those 2 other windows are still in your schedule though...don't know what window numbers they are. In other words, W14 is ONLY that center window. Read my last post again. If you still can't get it, I'd suggest you pay someone for a little one on one training session. Send me an email or PM and I might be able to help you out with that if you're interested.

grade distance from foundation to overcome frost level
Alaskan_Son replied to Dennis_Gavin's topic in General Q & A
Not sure this is correct unless we're talking about different things. Logically, it would have to be a minimum of a 45 degree slope measured from a point directly above the outermost edge of the footer. I'd imagine 45 degrees would be enough, but just to be safe you could add some insulation above the footer to match that slope. Anyway Dennis, I'm really not sure what the actual code is off the top of my head, but I'm relatively certain its just 45 degrees measured like I said above. -
You can pretty easily address this issue by creating a copy of your wall type and alternating wall types so that no 2 sections of the same type are touching each other. They will not "heal" this way.
-
I hadn't really been following this topic, but in reading through real quickly I'm not sure this issue was ever really addressed. If I understand what you are saying, I think you might be missing some things. Wall lines CAN be controlled via layer sets. You just need to check By Layer here... Wall FILLS are a bit of a different story, but you can actually control these by layer too by using either: A. Build>Wall>Hatch Wall OR B. Setting the fill to "Use Layer Color" in the Layer Fill Style dbx. This would mean you could no longer control the walls line color via layer settings though unless you wanted them to be the same color as your fill.

I wonder if perhaps Chief's print to PDF is fully embedding fonts? Not sure how big of a difference that would make in file size, but could be one contributor.

Hi Alan, I took a look at your plan, and here's what I found... The windows that are displaying as you want them have been set up to Show Component Labels but you have suppressed labels for the 2 outside units. You have also specified the label for the center unit. The problem with what you're doing is that the window dimensions in the schedule as well as the header sizes and rough openings are all incorrect/confusing. I think what you should probably do is like I suggested with Option B in my post above...Show Single Label For Entire Unit and specify the label to say "Triple 2460SH" or whatever it is. That would be the most accurate and would display like I think you want it.

A few quick comments to clarify some things that I think you may not have been quite right about... 1. Chief doesn't actually have a "replicate" tool. It has Copy, Multiple Copy, and Copy/Paste In Place. It does have a Transform/Replicate tool, but that is the name of a special dbx. containing a group of tools...one of which is Copy. 2. Chief actually does have a Move tool. If you open the Transform/Replicate tool it's in there. It's labeled Move. You can also simply drag the item using its Move handle, or you can grab the Move handle and hit tab. You can also use the center mouse button on any of the edit handles to move an item. Either way, the action is still called Move. 3. Chief has a number of tools you can use in place of Auto CAD's offset tool, but Jump is NOT one of them. You can use any number of the Copy tools in conjunction with any number of the Move techniques or you can do so in Concentric edit mode (can be temporarily activated by holding down C). You can set a Concentric Jump distance, but its NOT a jump tool. Also, Chief has both Reflect and Reflect About (which you mentioned) and they do have a different name than what you're used to, however in Chief's defense, I think they actually make more logical sense than 'Mirror".

Thank you Mark. I'll try that when I get back to my computer. I keep my desktop pretty clean as well and don't use all that many programs so I should actually have room to put that shortcut down in my taskbar. Hopefully it won't have to live there for very long. This particular issue is a huge annoyance to me. Absolute top of the list for current issues with Chief.
