  1. this ability has been around for quite a few years , the quality depends on the 3D artist though some are very good , some not and have high polygon counts .so really slow 3D views down, but importing of .skp's is fairly common . its the 1st place to check if the CA library doesn't have what you need. M.
  2. was not aware of the rent/rent to own option ...$219 month for 15 months and Premier is yours ..... (full cost plus $290 "rental fee" ) SSA is included , so you'd get X7 if it came out too....
  3. sure that's why the forum is here ...end users helping end users...mostly and you aint the only Aussie here .... Use a wall cabinet set to 85mm deep ( little shallower than stud) and insert into the wall by holding the control key down as you drag it into postion / thru the wall/gib. most save views to PDF and send to clients that way or use the File>export>picture to save and send jpeg files. import the jpeg of your Logo as an image I think and paste into the layout sheet. there is a user group in Melbourne, not sure about other areas https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/14-local-user-groups/

looks like you have the standard pitch (8/12?) on the 3 dining room walls still ? tried 4/12 on those 3 walls? ..... sorry, I can only look at X6 plans not play with them. is your terrain high ? I see a step in the foundation wall too..... or perhaps the brick ledge ? M.
  5. Try playing with the Graphics options in the Render Tab , turn off shadows in preview, try software edge smoothing = 0 , soft shadows ,horizon lines, enhanced lighting in General , try the aggressive cache flushing , may or may not help the crashes on older cards apparently. can't hurt to try a few options out till you buy new.... M.
  6. Productive day here two good tips off one Thread , stuff like this just aint in the manual.... M.
  7. Perry is probably onto something there.....if you haven't done the framing and don't have Chief displaying the framing in 3D views. If you are Downunder ? you might want to talk to (Users here on forum) glennw or NickNZ or Bernie (kiwicad) or Kiwideziner and some of the other guys Using it there very successfully. You might also start with HD Pro ($495) if budget is limited initially, as I did, while you learn the basics , when you upgrade you get a $500 rebate for Pro ( ie Pro's money back) so not a real deterrent to trying it out at all. At 1/5 the Price it's missing a "few" things but certainly good enough to get going on , there is also a 30 day return policy if you really don't like it. (same as on Chief) Strapping on 12" centres , makes a difference M.
  8. The Gap is/was because I don't think you have the ceiling structure setup in Chief as per you other image , in Chief your trusses are sitting on a 37mm plate which is on TOP of the CMU /Brick wall not inset into it per the PDF . and you probably don't have the ceiling battens/strapping either ? 50x50 for that is unusual , at least here. (25x100/1x4") another note 6mm (1/4) gib/Drywall is not a good idea , it will be VERY wavy and look terrible , use 10-12mm minimum , 15mm/5/8 is not uncommon here for ceilings. Cant open X6 plans sorry so can't look further , though not sure how you saved a Plan in the Trial Version ? I thought saves/exports were disabled ?
  9. Nice Tip Tommy , I was going to suggest the same thing as Perry , which I know him and Scott use on all their house's .....ie the extra (unseen) floor... Mick.
  10. We would probably use a 2 ply Torch-on membrane at 3/12 or below , rather than ice shield plus shingles , I don't think long term i'd trust the ice shield with that number of holes in it ( shingle nails) to not leak despite being "self sealing" I can see doing it that way if highly visible as you wouldn't match the colours , torch-on>shingle. we also use fiberglass base sheet on all roof , such as Malarky's UDL. M.
  11. there was a bug ? at one point in earlier versions and for some dumb reason framing did not show them , but framing> floor does , Framing >Posts must be new in X6 perhaps it isn't working properly? M.
  12. note that Most Shingle Manufacturer's don't advise slopes less than 3/12 and personally I think that's pushing it especially in higher wind areas.... M.
  13. My experience is the same as Perry's if you drag down at all it pulls the fireplace thru the floor , so I only drag up , it stops you at each floor level then lets you continue up, you need to place a fireplace (box) on each floor using the reference layer by the look too, they are not added auto as you drag up it seems . I don't get an auto foundation for the chimney , not in this Stemwall foundation Plan anyway, perhaps need to rebuild the foundation ? you also need to set the distance off the framing for firecode if needed default is 0"
  14. Chief has ones in the library for 3 high but no 4m so perhaps try 3dwarehouse https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/index.html
  15. I believe all moulding/profiles should be done on their own plan then saved to the Library to be uses as needed..... now you've made it you can post it in the symbols Forum too
  16. If the new gutter set as the default gutter in the Build Roof DBX ? or are you applying it some how not through the Library/ Roof DBX? these might help: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00677/ making gutters and adding to library http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00675/34/Chief-Architect/Roofs/Adding-Roof-Gutters.html assigning gutters from the Library
  17. sounds like you need to adjust the extension line's reach , make it shorter perhaps , draw in closer when you want wing walls, draw out further when you don't ? What the dimensions "grab" onto is determined in the Plans Defaults > dimensions>locate objects DBX note that you wont get a temp dimension if there is a manual/auto one already too close to the area.... M.
  18. this is Perry full settings he took pics of for me a while back. M.
  19. select the wall and use the reverse layers icon on the edit toolbar , see if that is the issue? if that don't help delete the interior wall and draw down from the top to the corner ( and drag to line up 100% if needed as I did), Interior walls don't always matter for layers but generally you draw in a clockwise direction to get the main layer to the outside. It of course may not be a layers issue but I was able to do it ,using the same wall types as you. M
  20. Works fine for me , did you draw the interior wall from the connection up to the other wall or down to the interior corner ? I ask cos possibly the wall layers are reversed? and chief will try to line up the "main layer" of each wall. M.
  21. the snap shot above shows his Render Status , driver is 334.7 from Jan. it shows 3147mb of Ram so it must be sharing? since he says 1GB which is 1024mb. also notes simple square house with just a roof.....
  22. No internet can be an issue as it was for me last year , no internet means the Program won't even open if it can't "Call Home" at least every 10-14 days.... not sure if that changed in X6? , Perhaps? but I think the Digital Locker is usable from Smart phones now , though wasn't last Yr when I needed this feature.
  23. Thanks Joe appreciate it.... also for those interested Terry Munson (of Chief Apprentice) has a Tip on his new website on Annosets too , look under Tips if this link doesn't show it , also in PDF. http://www.munsonhomedesign.com/News-or-Reviews.html
  24. I'll leave the main question to others I have no experience with Sketchup , lots with HD Pro and now Chief but wanted to make Sure you knew that HD Pro was not capable of Ray tracing , that is a Chief Feature only. You'll also need to work with an Architect with the same version or newer of Chief, if newer though you wont be able to edit their Plan, just view it which may mean you need to upgrade once you find an Architect . The Current HD Pro 2015 = Chief X6. M.
  25. There was a good discussion on Chimney's about 6-8 weeks ago . Scott even did video's for his method , I had another .....I'll see if I can find the thread M, Here it is https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1313-chimney-how/?hl=%2Bchimney+%2Bchase
