  1. some of these are getting older now but many features are the same http://www.chieftutor.com/roof/index.html you need SSA to access Chief's video Tutorials AFAIK....
  2. another thought is if you originally installed X5 for "this User Only" you may need to reinstall with the "All Users" option , you may be able to rerun the installer without uninstalling and get a "repair install" option and change that setting , maybe possible to do from Control Panel >Programs>X5 ,click on it and it will give you the option to uninstall or perhaps repair. A Repair install may mean having to reinstall any patches/updates you did on X5 though NOTE: I am not sure if this requires a deactivation and then reactivation or not ,so maybe talk to CA on Monday 1st , you don't want to lose an emergency transfer even though it is on the same machine.
  3. X6 will open any X5 plan , unless you share X5 files with others? then saving them in X6 would stop that. if you can get into the old admin profile ? goto control panel > users>open new profile/user and make user an admin too if not already
  4. is he asking for a 45° landing in the corner or just to join the treads at 45° ie miter them? I agree about the door opening onto a staircase BTW
  5. You cant delete the only Administrator on a system ,so either make the new user an admin too or Run X5 as admin. as it looks like you are running into privledges issue with the standad user and chief can't update/open certain files as the new user does not have permission , you maybe able to change the permissions to "everyone" but for the non computer techie it is probably easier to reinstall under the new profile (as admin) if you are going to update this week to X6 before the extended sale ends on the 12th ($516), just do that instead, and you'll get X7 in a few months too. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/rebates/
  6. you no longer need to zip .plan files , the max file size is now 50mb too.
  7. Good to know Jon thanks , this is what I found: Configuring Windows to use double-byte languages. Configure Windows for double-byte character support To configure Windows for double-byte character support: 1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel, Regional and Language Options. 2. From the drop-down menu in the Regional Options tab, select the language you would like Windows to support, and click Apply. 3. In the Languages tab, select Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai), or Install files for East Asian languages, depending on the language you would like Windows to support. 4. Click Apply, OK.
  8. integrated only? I thought/read that the intel 4000 and up were ok now I think perhaps you need to update drivers ? a lot of laptops have the integrated for 2D etc as it is easier on the Battery but they can switch to a dedicated videocard like a Nvidia 650 if enabled per program in the Nvidia Control Panel http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/#videocard
  9. or try making your new User an Administrator as well ,rather than a standard user perhaps , but not sure if possible if you can't access your old profile?
  10. are you on a laptop perhaps ? and the good NVidia videocard is not enabled for X6 in the NVidia control panel ?
  11. you are right ,when I open the degree dimension DBX it always seems to have Minutes+ seconds checked even though it is showing Degrees in the Defaults , so I guess I can't help much since you need to change it to degrees manually by checking the radio button, I hadn't noticed as I have angle snaps on so don't get those crazy decimal/minute+second numbers showing automatically. did you open the number style dialog and check it there too?
  12. in the Defaults>CAD you can set it to use Degrees by default I believe.......
  13. Tommy , I think you have the date wrong it is already Jan 2nd , at least it says you posted this, this morning.....
  14. sorry bad pic I guess I meant for you to CHECK the foundation option , you can also use the foundation Tab in the same DBX to reset default sizes and the chamfer etc you may need to delete the foundation and rebuilt it ,to reset all the settings you have tried to default
  15. there is a tutorial for printing to PDF too http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00768/
  16. on level one , on the interior wall between the house and garage did you open the wall's DBX and specify it to have a foundation? (on the general tab) it should build auto as specified in the defaults ,but on level 0 you can select it and change it if needed. M.
  17. install a PDF Print Driver as Perry mentioned, I still use the one recommended by Chief back then, works great and adds nothing to your system like some others, you just get a short advertising window pop up for 20 secs or so when you save and it "prints" the PDF to your screen . http://www.pdf995.com/download.html
  18. thanks that would be really helpful for a G13 Newbie....... do a search on the forums as there have been a couple of good threads on Annosets in the last 3-4 months that will probably prove helpful. M. Forgot this morning that Terry Munson has so Tips on Annotations too http://www.munsonhomedesign.com/Annotations.html
  19. Joe Carrick post some on the Symbols forum late August here https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1988-people-images-1st-batch/
  20. would you mind sharing your G13 Profile ? I just picked one up to try but haven't got around to programming it yet , be good to see how some else has it set up. Thanks Mick.
  21. under the view menu have you toggled off Toolbars and scrollbars ?
  22. Did you break the edge of the landing so the stairs will attach automatically? the edge cant be wider than the staircase you could try drawing the staircases 1st then clicking in the gap where the landing is to see if it auto-generates , it will on simpler stairs.... Nice , an upgrade to X6 Bob
  23. did you see this thread from a couple of weeks ago ? Glenn also came up with another method earlier in the year when I posed this question too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3192-railings-attached-to-rim-on-outside/ Glenn also came up with another method earlier in the year when I posed this question too though neither is "automatic" https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1199-deck-post-fascia-mount-possible/?hl=%2Bfascia+%2Bmounted%26%2339%3B#entry9527
  24. "Boxed Eave" in the Options Tab of the Roof DBX will get you the flat eave , the height is determined by the size of the sub-facsia eg 2x4.2x6 etc. , not 100% sure if a rebuild is needed or it will auto generate anyway if this setting changes. If you designate the front entry as a Porch or Slab it should get a ceiling and Roof automatically ,but depending on how drawn you may need invisible walls to get the room definition , otherwise you would/could use a manual ceiling plane ,soffit /slab etc. M.
  25. If you need real 3D B&B then check out Joe Carrick's method using molding lines and B&B made to the desired sizes with Primitives https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1243-board-batt-siding-using-3e-moldings/?hl=%2Bboard+%2Bbatten#entry9737
