  1. BTW I used the info in Joe Carrick's post and another I found one the old Forum to play around with things till I got it right if you want to try other spacings https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/84-custom-patterns/#entry492 Text Document of Joe and Tim's Posts Pattern File How To.txt
  2. Thanks Tommy appreciate the time spent, nice you used X3 too ,it means these will work in Pro 10 I still have too as like DJP I try to help over on Hometalk too ,some users there may appreciate these too. and thanks Brinkbart for the original library too.
  3. Have you done a Tutorial on this technique , perhaps on the old Forum, Tommy? if not perhaps you could ? I didn't think this was possible either and am still using an older version and find the odd symbol here that would be useful but most are made in X6 these days. Mick.
  4. Hi Dustin , I played around with this earlier this year after seeing another post on this and found a texture on the old forum back then, and made a new material once I figured out how the pattern file worked , so try the attached material and let me know if it works for you , as I only tried it on a simple box house as a test but the Vector and standard views measured correctly at 4"-4"-8" . (see below ) You may need to play with the Y origin for your model as I tried to set it so the pattern started with a 8" board at the bottom. 4-4-8 Siding_Mick.calibz Alot of Chief's scales seem to be off by a factor of 10 or so, and i found i needed a scale of .166 for this pattern to work on the drawing at a true measured in elevation 4"-4"-8" there are two (slight) variations on the 4-4-8 and a 4-4-4-4-8 pattern too in the .pat file, I used the 4-4-8b.pat Here is the pattern, texture and material zipped in case you need it too: LapSiding448.zip
  5. nope but I have X5 though the X6 manual still refers to them , I looked before posting above....
  6. Check page 49 of the Reference Manual, the thumbnails are as Perry commented for use with Chief's internal browser , to show a small preview of the plan , though I guess you could use the _p.jpg file as you folder icon if you wanted. You can also make your own thumbnails ,since the auto ones aren't always very good. There are other icons available for Chief files too if for eg. you want different colours etc. for windows explorer.
  7. Forgot to add the sample pics of mine so here they are :
  8. if these don't work let me know what other 3D models the Mac version can import , it will be sitting on the floor probably when imported so select it ,open it, adjust the height, and it has no material so assign a Stainless Steel from the Library to it as well ( get one from the S.Steel Library I posted last night here in another Thread , they are nicer.... .DAE ,.3DS ,.SKP_V8 included (no material) Toto Convex Push Plate.zip in case that doesn't work I imported it ,changed the height (34") and added a S.Steel Material and exported it ,see if that works ok 1st perhaps.... Toto Push Plate.calibz
  9. The exterior side ( as Chief sees it) will have the edit handle on it at the center of the wall when you select it , either interior or exterior walls. M
  10. me too so I started a new thread on the symbols forum for the S.Steel of mine, Kirk's and Bill's , so hopefully others will add to it as well. here https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2563-stainless-steel-and-other-metals-add-yours-please/
  11. The Topic in the Q&A section was getting way off thread so I thought I'd repost My, Kirk's an Bill's Stainless Steel materials here for other future Users : My 4 S.Steel Materials: Stainless Steel Library_Mick.calibz Kirk@Chief TS S.Steel S.Steel_Metal_Material_Kirk.calibz Bill's S.Steel Texture: *** because Stainless has a "grain" , it may look better to use the Vert(ical) vs Horiz(ontal) version of the material or to rotate it 90° depending on what you are applying it to. See below for other Metal textures too , those are not a Library though. Thanks Mick.
  12. Hi Warren , post a link to the file on 3D Warehouse ( still not sure what it is exactly you need?) and I'll convert it to .DAE with Sketchup if possible (in windows) and post it back here for you. Mick.
  13. Thx Jintu , the .dae doesn't crash Blender but I get the same checker pattern I posted a pic of above , not sure if that is normal and I just aren't waiting long enough but I am using Real Temp to monitor my CPU temps and see no load or rise in temps when this is running. I found a standalone Corona Benchmark version A4 on the Corona website and it Runs just fine albeit a little slow on my old i7 970 at 6 mins but it tells me Corona works , so either Blender or Chief or the exporter isn't working right. https://corona-renderer.com/forum/index.php/topic,559.0.html
  14. Had no luck getting Blender and Corana Render to work Here Rich , so am hoping you try it out and can give pointers , if you get a .3DS that works from Chief can you add it to the chatroom thread , at least for me with an X5 3ds file Blender crashes using the Corona Render , but opengl test render works fine. thx. M.
  15. see this for pic posting https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2370-screen-shots-in-forum-post/#entry18603
  16. Did I not see DMDz (David Michael Designs) post a Glass garage door ? , perhaps in the symbols forum or maybe the old symbols forum? , think I remember a modern one with curved glass too. M.
  17. Australian House plans will be in square meters , and 400 sq.m (4300 sqft) is a large house A square foot is a square foot , no matter your location in the world , so like the others I think your looked at a 400 sqm aussie plan not a 400 sqft plan , 400 sqft would make a good double garage if a bit small at only 6mx6m this converter may help http://www.metric-conversions.org/area/square-meters-to-square-feet.htm you are in Oz so you should be drawing your plans using the Metric Templates not the imperial ones as they can't be changed 1/2 way thru , though you can make Chief display both if needed
  18. Curious why you leave the Reference Layer on when you send to Layout then ? but you could try the "draw reference floor 1st setting , it is draw last by default it seems Display Options allow you to control how the lines and fill patterns of objects in the Reference Floor appear. • Select Draw Reference Floor First to draw the Reference Floor before drawing the objects on the current floor. The lines and fill patterns of objects in the Reference Floor display behind the current floor. • Select Draw Reference Floor Last to draw the Reference Floor after the objects on the current floor are drawn. The lines and fill patterns of objects in the Reference Floor display in front of the current floor, and may cover objects on the current floor partially or completely. • Use Object Settings displays the line and fill styles of objects in the Reference Floor that aren’t using their default line and fill styles. When this is unchecked, objects display according to their layer settings in the Reference Floor Layer Set. • Use XOR Drawing changes the color of lines in the Reference Floor that are drawn on top of one another. Lines with identical properties do not display.
  19. I edited #38 slightly , and while everything seems to have installed correctly , Blender crashes if I use a Chief X5 exported .3DS file (small house) , not sure if it is a bad plan or how I exported the .3DS (settings?) If I import a .3DS from SketchUP , a Bed Gene made on the symbols forum I get a black and grey checker pattern but no crash. unfortunately I don't know enough ( read anything) adout 3D Rendering Software to be able to diagnose the issues. Have you tried this Rich ? feel free to transfer #38 to the Chatroom
  20. I don't see a Corona Thread Jintu? However I am not having any luck getting the Corona Render to work so I may need to update this thread , Blender 2.72 is crashing when I invoke the Corona Standalone Render , Opengl Render is working Fine , I know nothing of 3D Rendering but I don't think it is me , since the Opengl Render is working fine along with one of the builtin Render Engines. Mick @Rich ...do the images go too if you copy paste to another thread ? I can always repost if I can get it to work
  21. There does not appear to be a /bin Folder when you install Blender (2.72) any longer but the Addons folder is still in Scripts Folder ie <your blender installation directory>\2.72\scripts\addons the new Blender interface was why I posted the new images above as the program got an update to 2.72 this week (Oct 14th) and things are a bit different than the other Instructions. If using an older version of Blender with the Standalone Corona you probably need to use the older Instructions.
  22. Blender 2.72 is here http://www.blender.org/download/ or Feature Page http://www.blender.org/features/2-72/ then you need the two files in the link Jintu points to above as well for the Standalone to work it looks like.... https://www.corona-renderer.com/wiki/blender2corona/installation this page has a security cert. error in IE but opens fine in Chrome for me... M. Edit: The Installation Instructions are a little out of date with Blender 2.72 so this should help : Extract Corona Standalone to your hard drive.and Copy or move the Corona Standalone extracted Folder to C:\Program Files (64bit) or Blender won't find it ( not C:\program files (x86) unless you use the 32bit program) From the .zip file of the exporter, extract the contained folder named “render_corona”. (only this folder is in download) Put the “render_corona” folder into your <blender installation directory>\2.72\scripts\addons Enable the addon from the preferences panel, under the “Render” category (Put Check in Box on Right) In the preferences panel, set the path to the Corona Standalone directory containing the Corona executable.(C:\Program Files (64bit) as above in No#1) ,then click save settings at the bottom of the Preferences Window. Select “Corona” from the render engine dropdown. Set the project export path in the Corona Render panel in the Render tab If you have a Nvidia Videocard you can enable the CUDA Cores too it looks like (left side of pic) Now I just have to learn how to use it PLEASE SEE THIS NEW THREAD IN THE CHATROOM FORUM TOO ! TITLED CORONA RENDER https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2527-corona-renderer/
  23. If you don't want to send PDF's for some reason export a .jpg of the Layout/Plan view and email them the pic created , this is how I send quick views to Clients especially 3D views , as most mail progs. and web-browsers will open the attachment directly even on their Phones. Of course nothing is to scale etc this way if that is a consideration... M.
  24. I have no idea how the Textures I made Ray trace Kirk , never tried it, I don't do RT much at all. I may still have the original textures somewhere if you need them ?, no doubt you would do a better job of cropping, rotating ,adjusting properties etc. Mick.
