  1. Perhaps Chief will Import the Sketchup .dae or .skp better if Structure works in Sketch Properly?
  2. Perhaps cos you have Print at 1/2 Scale Checked in the pic above? Johnny may have printed to Scale (1/4"?) and you also have the Print setup scale in the layout file set to 1"= 2" instead of 1=1" which is unusual , not sure if that is an issue or not?
  3. Thanks for the Stretch Plane Info Joe , I had a play around for my own practice and made these quick Cubicle Doors MHD_Cubicle Doors_X10.calibz
  4. The Files in Program files>Template are the Backup templates not the ones in use , those are in your Chief Data Folder>Templates , which is usually in My Documents. Chief uses the ones in the Program Files folder to fix any issues with the ones in the Data Folder if needed. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. See mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum so you need to Toggle it on by going to the Upper RH Corner of this Forum Window and Clicking on your Username and making sure Signature are enabled (green) and then Add your Own Sig. too : UserName> Account > Signatures M.
  5. did you explain the Issue to Structure ? perhaps they can change their Output for you somehow so Chief can import easily , be to their benefit to deal with Chief Direct I'd think and work it out... M.
  6. I thought for some reason that we had premade Door only symbols in the Library but it appears not ..... You can make a Door from a Polyline Solid though pretty easily or multiple PL Solids and convert it to a symbol.
  7. So it says not filtered at the top of the Library Window? maybe time to call Tech Support ....they won't call you .....I have seen this reported a few times so there maybe a fix... please let us know if you do find out. just had a thought.... Win10 installed a cumulative Update this week , maybe it messed something up? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/company/contact.html no 1-800 no# anymore though....
  8. I assume you tried the usual like rebooting and restarting CA ? You haven't accidentally set a Library Filter to ON have you? ( seen that one here before ) Is the User Library File still where it is supposed to be ? Preferences>Folders>Show button will tell you where it should be...
  9. Try a Doorway and a resized Door Slab from the Chief Library......
  10. Unfortunately HDI can not do any of the above , not even HD Pro does , so an inverted Cone maybe your only Option? But HDI can not cut it.... Unless one of the kind Gentlemen here exports his model for you ? The Home titles have their own Forum called HomeTalk over here : https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/?_fromLogin=1 Same Username and Password over there......someone may have a workaround over there? It's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. See mine below in Blue for how to do that. 11. If you Import it as a dxf you get wall lines by the look and CAD to Walls does work to some degree ..... better start than nothing? Maybe .stl would work if I knew what I was doing in Draftsight *** caveat*** I don't know autocad , ( I used DrafthtSight Free to convert ) nor have used CAD to Walls Before If you know the Sizes , then drawing something this small in Chief would be pretty quick ...as fast as fixing the Import probably ...it ain't perfect. M. since I had it done have a look at this....... Global Parlee in CA.plan
  12. .. your Sig. did make me wonder , as those weird float Trusses were in the Beta

    schedules

They are all lumped together as Ridge Material as they are all the same size in CA ( no idea why ) In X10 you can right click the ridge material and choose show in Plan to confirm what each Line really contains....
  14. There is some info in this CA Tutorial : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00495/creating-walls-with-a-block-and-tie-beam.html but not as much as you might need , also note that CA may not accurately give you the needed blocks for an actual Build as last time I tried it is calculates square footage with no allowances for Corner Blocks / 1/2 blocks etc..... I would suggest checking the Take Off against a good industry standard Block Calculator for comparison available on many Block Suppliers Websites. Draw up a 10'x10" "Shed" , something simple and test it... This Site has many Construction Calculators in both Imperial and Metric https://www.blocklayer.com/blockwork/block-calculatoreng.aspx
  15. Are you still running Beta X10 Larry ? this looks similar to a known issue in the Beta which was apparently fixed 3-4 months ago , I have not seen it happen since.....maybe it is back?
  16. Export ML to .xml , open in Excel >Select All>COPY then in Layout Paste>Paste Special>Rich Text..... ( Text also works) comes in just like the ML and seems to be fully editable in my playing with it This does beg the question though ... why it can't be exported direct to a Text or Rich Text Box and a chosen Layout Page ..... like just about everything else.... M.
  17. CA does not do BXF sorry Try importing the .dae into SketchUp 1st , then export it as a .SKP and see if CA can import it. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. See mine below in Blue for how to do that. 18. Well, you and I wouldn't be the only ones confused by some of the wording in Chief's DBX's I am sure M.
  19. Ahhhh that's the difference , I don't use that Checkbox ever since I want the Slab on Top of the Foundation Wall not level with it ( which is what I thought you wanted too? ) that's why I though you must have checked the Hang Floor inside Foundation Wall Box as I had forgotten about this Checkbox too
  20. I use Method 2 as well ( Method 1 would only happen if Hang Floor inside Walls was checked I believe? ) but I use a Pony Wall with the ICF already Parged so it does that all Auto, the height of the pony wall controls the height of the parging. Building the Foundation at 4" Slab, Auto detailing, then Setting the Floor to the thickness of the Siding Hang down ( 1-1 1/2" typ) , and hitting Auto Detail again , gives you multiple CAD Boxes to play with and sending them to Front or Back Drawing Group, makes it all look good in section and seems to work Ok. Replacing the ICF AutoDetail Insul. Fill will let you cover the PonyWall line BTW. Have to ask......Is the Siding really only brought to the bottom of the Framing ...just seems like a bad idea to me re water penetration.....
  21. This also helps with 3D PBR and Raytrace Views to reduce Light Bleed etc. Normally it is easier for me to just draw a large Box eg 30x30' or 40 x40' and model the Room in whichever Corner Suits or perhaps in the Middle of the Wall if I don't need an Exterior Corner. M.
  22. Have you done the Drawing Sheet Setup in BOTH the Plan AND Layout Windows? do they Match ? File>Print>Drawing Sheet Setup https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00725/defining-the-drawing-sheet-setup-for-printing.html
  23. NO need to Copy and Paste as you work to a new Plan, simply do a SAVE AS with a revision Name or Number and you have an Identical Plan. this saves all the settings etc , in Defaults you may have changed from your Template , the Defaults in the Template, can mess up a plan if C&P is used eg say you went from 8ft stud height to 9ft etc ...you'd have to fix all that. a little more info on z-fighting : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00107/troubleshooting-why-materials-appear-to-flicker-when-a-camera-view-is-rotated.html M.
  24. You can use the Roof Plane Label instead of the Arrow and pitch by specifying the Label and inserting an Object Specific Macro..... (Red Arrow) or You can also use a simple Macro in a Text Box with Leader Line (arrow) connected to the Roof Plane ..... make a macro in TMM (text below), and then insert it into the Text box via the Text box DBX Roof Plane SqFt %surface_area% eg : You can find other simple Macro's simply by connecting a Text Box with Leader to most Objects and inserting the premade macro %objectproperties% which will fill the text box with all the premade Macros CA understands automatically , you can then use them to get the info needed, in this case all the info that the Polyline Info Tab shows.
  25. To help with this in the future , in your Template Plan , use the Insert Point Tool to place one at 0,0 and then find the Point and then save the plan , so that when you open a new plan the 1st thing you see is an X ....which you can delete from the same menu as the Place point Tool or simple hit the Delete key while nothing is selected in the plan. You can also turn on the Status Bar and Coordinates in Preferences so you can see where the Cursor is , if not done already..... The 0,0 and drawing close to it usually solves most of the Z-Fighting Issues Eric has shown.
