X10 uses the new Ray Cast Sun Shadows (RCSS) in ALL views including the Library, Dialog Boxes (DBX) etc , so it may help too, in Preferences set DBX's and the Library to show Previews in Vector View instead since they should "draw" faster, turning off Shading (shadows) in Vector Views may help too in this regard. I have not found an undo of 10 is any better than one of 50 in regards to "Lag" , it does help in my testing to have both Chief's Undo and Temp Folders on the Fastest SSD in the System (NVME=best) so I have made my own Folder on C:\ Drive and set them in Chief's Preferences to those Folders, as My Default Chief Data Folder is not normally on C: as I keep My Documents on an extra Drive ( now a separate SSD , (the old C:Drive now A: ) after getting the NVME SSD. It is important to Chief during Updates that the Temp Folder is on C: otherwise Updates do no seem to work correctly ...eg they don't work in my testing if the Temp folder is on a Ram disk. I also have a batch file (.bat) I use to clean the Temp Folders out as the Undo Folder does not clean itself out very well when you close Chief and there is no reason to keep these Files as Chief will not be able to open them again anyway. Closing Chief every few hours is always helpful I find , eg when you go to lunch or Coffee Break etc.

computer sounds fine to me , people are running CA on lesser Machines...... you could buy HD Pro , $495 , which is rebated against Chief if you Upgrade to Premier , or you could Rent Chief monthly ($200 ) too , there is a learning Curve though, and I wonder if you have Industry experience to let you design the Home of your Dreams? you maybe better off hiring someone local who uses Chief especailly if you want to expedite the Project. You can use the Display Above or Below Tool on any Roof plane to force the display of all roof planes on Floor 2 on to floor 1 (or vica versa) , it doesn't shift the planes only their display to make them easier to work with. there is a bit more info in the Ref. Manual on page 791 ...but not much... but it shows what the Tool Icons look like which should appear on the edit toolbar when a Roof Plane is selected. M.

Welcome to the Forum.... I do not think it is your computer , it is very similar to mine ( see my Signature ) but could you explain the "lag" a bit more , what is happening? If you import a lot of Models from SketchUp (3D warehouse) be very careful to check the Polygon count as Chief doesn't like a lot of curved surfaces for example, they can really slow things down. Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. See mine below in Blue for how to do that. Was just thinking the same thing.....

You may find if you are not zoomed in close enough to the Dimension String , it will not offer to open the DBX ( dialog box) and let you enter the Dimension manually , the cursor will change to a pointing finger if it is going to be open-able.

Current Screen As Image is automatically saved in Plan and is how I normally do pics, so they don't change and the link can't be lost. Otherwise I import an Image that I have already made for the Client previously , (which is what I think Bob just did to fix his), and make sure to open the DBX and Save in Plan at 100% . ( Chief makes low kb sized image files already without making the quality lower ) I guess you do need to be aware that the Images may not reflect current Changes though doing it this way. M.

Just to double check it wasn't a Browser Issue or something I installed Fire Fox on my Surface3 but still the same issue in the Locker ....my older versions are not under the Account or the Dropdown Arrow, which I didn't notice before but I wasn't looking for a dropdown either as everything was on One page before

I thought ALL views were Updated automatically if you hit the Print Button? at least that was my understanding previously..... I am guessing Bob's issue is somehow related to the View sent to layout and it has changed since the Layout last got Updated or a View was Deleted etc. M.

Yep , unfortunately I can't access the Program to do that , I think I was testing them on my new Laptop ( which died ) but I wasn't concerned as I knew I could do it online , so someone posting this news about the Locker Change this morning had/has me worried, but it sounds like they are aware of it and luckily I can do without it for the next week I think. It has unfortunately shown why I don't like being tied to a Online Only Security program / license , it is already enough of a Pita having to sign in and out of my Laptop or Desktop as I can't run both at the same time , last time this happened I was up the Coast with no internet access so I was stuck and couldn't use CA..... and CS wouldn't switch it over the Phone (landline) for me. M.

That will mean having to work out which computer it was on and in my case hopefully not the Laptop that died and I had to send back a few weeks ago..... I guess if I reinstall it I won't be able to activate it , so until this is fixed I can't use them ? New Laptop is on the way , it should run X10 okay , but I use the Surface when I am onsite or working out of town and don't need the 3D stuff..... M.

I have the SW downloads saved etc , so that is not an issue , but currently ( just tested) I cannot open x7 , x8, or x9 on my Surface 3 as there is no way to switch the activation online.... the only option is x10 and of course it is on the Desktop and I don't need to really switch it currently , nor do I want it on the Surface3 , it doesn't have the power to run it. The Core Libraries are in the Chief System Folder but the User Library is in the Chief Data Folder which you can move in Preferences>General>Folders, so if it is keep on the Server or Dropbox etc then the User Library is there too in the Database Libraries Folder , most people would have the Data Folder in My Documents normally eg: C:\Users\Username\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X10 Data\Database Libraries Line types can be Imported via the File>Import>LineStyles Menu Item but I think that is for importing line styles from AutoCad or Other CAD Programs as I see no way to Export Line Styles in Chief ( or import them from the Current Drawing) but if your new line Styles were saved to the User Library, the above maybe one method to access them from both computers . I see a note in the Manual that User Line styles are NOT exported to/with DWG or DXF files so you may want to check into that further if that is a possibility.

Hadn't noticed this either but see all my old licenses are gone.... not quite sure how I switch to x8 or x9 etc onto my laptop or Surface3 if needed now.... It isn't showing X9 running on my desktop this morning but shows x10 running yesterday.... This is the kind of thing we should be sent an Email about........ Perhaps Dan can explain ? @Dan_Park

The Section Views may not look correct either as you are actually changing the Framing etc. In this particular situation at least , I did what I see now Eric suggested too, and used a Room Divider and simply set the Floor structure to 430mm and locked the Floor top....the exterior Cladding will always build to the bottom of the floor platform by default so it looks good in most views.... you likely need to play with the framing ( i didn't in pics) especially if this is truly cantilevered? (no Posts)

Eric is right PDF's are a PITA just use the Windows Snipping Tool (accessories) and attach the image Directly after saving it on your desktop 1.) the location of the Wall Dim is determined by the wall's main layer and which side is it's main side ( ie what is considered the exterior side) which is indicated by the square edit handle when the wall is selected at it's mid point. 2.) is an overall Dim ( note the arrows only on each end ) you can add dim location points by dragging off the diamond and placing it on the point you want located ...if there is a diamond to drag otherwise you could add a manual point to point dim too. check this video for the use of the diamond.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5432/editing-dimensions-and-extension-lines.html?playlist=92 3.) Line A is the same as the outer line to it's left it appears, typically CA will only give 3 lines off Dim. automatically line the other sides of the building so I am not sure if A is one you drew manually? if so it is properly just the wrong type , eg you used point to point instead of a Running or Baseline Dim. The Rate this Topic 5 Star Icon is still there on the left under the Topic Starter's Username , but the User/Member list has been gone a While, though there is a Online User list on the light gray bar at the Top, though that's not the Same as a "Members" Bar and isn't any good unless they are online. Thanks CS, I had forgotten about Doug's Double wall method ( Deck built with invisible Walls and railing wall outside those walls ) and was only remembering the invisible Layer to force the Posts outside the Rim Joist , and each time I pulled the wall off the Corner I lost the Deck room ( and thus deck) and only remembered the old fudge with a room divider which is really finicky.
