BEST-PRACTICE USE OF PAINT SPRAY TOOL AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB, USING THE MATERIAL PAINTER REALLY ONLY BECOMES A PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARE USING IT TO CHANGE A MATERIAL THAT IS BEING CONTROLLED BY THE STRUCTURAL LAYER SETTINGS OF A PARAMETRIC OBJECT EG A WALL OR WHEN USING IT WITH BLEND COLORS WITH MATERIALS TOGGLED ON. ALL OTHER MATERIAL CHANGES MADE USING THE SPRAY CAN ARE CARRIED THROUGH EXACTLY THE SAME AS THEY WOULD BE IF YOU WERE TO CHANGE THAT MATERIAL USING THE MATERIAL TAB AND ARE THEREFORE CARRIED THROUGH TO THE MATERIAL LIST AS WELL. MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO USE THE MATERIAL PAINTER FREELY AND OFTEN, WITH A FEW CAVEATS, AS IT’S ONE OF THE MOST EFFICIENT METHODS OF CHANGING MATERIALS, ESPECIALLY WHEN USED IN THE APPROPRIATE MODE (COMPONENT, OBJECT, PLAN, ROOM, ETC. – LEARN THESE AS THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS) FOR THE MOST PART, IT SHOULD JUST BE AVOIDED IN THESE SCENARIOS: ON EXTERIOR WALL SURFACES. IT'S ALMOST NEVER APPROPRIATE TO JUST CHANGE THE COLOR OF AN EXTERIOR WALL. YOU'RE ALMOST ALWAYS INTENDING TO CHANGE THE ACTUAL STRUCTURE OF THE WALL AND SO YOU SHOULD BE CHANGING THE WALL TYPE OR WALL TYPE DEFINITION. THE MAIN EXCEPTION TO THIS WOULD BE IF YOU'RE JUST CHANGING THE ACTUAL COLOR (PAINT) OF A MATERIAL ON ONE OR 2 SPECIFIC WALL SECTIONS IN WHICH CASE THIS WOULD ALSO BE ONE OF THE VERY FEW CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE USING BLEND COLORS WITH MATERIALS MAY ALSO BE USED EFFECTIVELY. AGAIN THOUGH, THESE SITUATIONS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. 99% OF THE TIME, EXTERIOR WALL SURFACE MATERIALS SHOULD BE CHANGED IN THE ACTUAL WALL TYPE DEFINITION. ON INTERIOR WALL SURFACES WHERE THE ACTUAL STRUCTURAL LAYERS ARE BEING CHANGED. PAINTING A DRYWALL ACCENT WALL IN A ROOM A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN THE REST? MATERIAL PAINTER IS TOTALLY APPROPRIATE. CHANGING THE WALL MATERIAL FROM PAINTED DRYWALL TO WOOD VENEER? CHANGE IT IN THE WALL TYPE DEFINITION. WHEN CHANGING FRAMING LAYERS. AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT'S IMPORTANT TO JUST LEARN HOW THE TOOLS WORK. THE MATERIAL PAINTER IS ESSENTIALLY A SHORTCUT TO THE MATERIAL TAB. This and the New Layer are only needed if you only want to see the L-Shape in Plan View , personally I have several Client's that work with Door and Drawers on, so it is not an Issue, and it also helps with visually aligning Flush Fillers ( flush with the Doors, the norm these days ) which I build a similar way from a base cabinet. While it will work as Noted they can't be added to Style Palletes ( yet? ) a down side if you need to do "Options" for Clients, this way. ( why I use Base Cabinets) Not on it own as it can't report to a Schedule as Gene and a lot of others need it to, but as an Overlay to show the CAD L-Shape in Plan Views, if needed yes. M.

Personally I didn't say anything about lost functionality, and I am not sure Mark did either, just that it wasn't working in X13 as expected it seemed, as it had in X12 and he was figuring it out, but he thought it might be a Layer issue, though it was the Cabinet Default setting "Show" not being ON in the X13 Template in my case. In the X13 Template I used to test with, the General Cabinet Default "always show closed Doors and Drawers" was off and I had asked Mark what it might be ........as it worked in his X12 Plan. Un-mull it - open dbx change - re- mull them. Set Window separation to 0" as well in Defaults otherwise you will have a 2" ( 1 stud) gap between window ( and Doors) so they won't bump tight. Mick

Small Business/personal Loan ( or friends/family?) or Visa and pay it off would be Cheaper for sure , renting is the most expensive option long term ( add 20%) but also an easy way to get the license over the next couple of years if the Jobs are still a bit thin at this time... Bit of a play in the Metric template this morning and it seems the Wall Bridging is Hardcoded to 38mm , not taking the stud or plate spec'd thickness

I don't remember it myself, and thought it used the same thickness as specified for the Stud or Plate by default * see below , appears to be hard-coded at 38mm Setup the framing in your Template Plan to use 45mm and you won't need to do it again. I am not 100% sure why Chief's Templates have always set the default to 38mm in the Metric Templates, apparently nobody checked real world specs, (direct conversion from 1 1/2" I think) thus I have always done the above each version. Not at all, I'm not a Mathematician so can't suggest a good alternative, but it essentially isn't an Option really since CA recommends you don't use Distance Rounding as it is only included for use with OLD Legacy Plans. May it be exactly what a Eng. such as the OP needs? I don't know, as I am not an Engineer either or know his needs, but we are talking about the inner workings of Chief, so it isn't going to change, since it's good enough in 99% of cases....I just know from posts here it is not infallible. Rounding Method Specify the Rounding Method used for dimension values. Grid Rounding ensures that the sum of the parts of a dimension line add up to the whole distance. To produce this result, some sections may not be rounded accurately. This is the recommended rounding method and is selected by default. Distance Rounding addresses each section of a dimension line individually, which could result in the sum of these sections not being equal to the whole. This option is available for legacy purposes only and is not recommended. See Compatibility With Previous Versions.

Perhaps Show it in a Detail ( build just 1 panel to fit) as an "Option" and let Auto Handle most of it. just add a couple of manual verticals in the centre there after it stretches. M.

Not sure really do-able auto Alan. would be a bunch of work as you can add a stretch plane to the width outside the panel eg if 42" make it 25", so it won't stretch, but the Panel would need to be the exact width you need between newels so likely not great time wise, and I cant think of anyway to give the auto 1" gap both sides. so you might be back to a 1/4" thick PSolid with the Mesh material in that case. and place and adjust manually each one... You can use two of those panels you made in an Open Railing and overlap them manually to get the 1" gaps.....

Hi Kevin, sorry to bring a downer to the party but I am not seeing what you are unfortunately, can I ask what Nvidia Driver you are using , I have a couple of small Cabinet jobs to do today and would like to try again with them, as I am starting to think my 3080 has an Issue....... Mick.

Currently the MAC can not use the new PBR-RT View or Clay Views due to the hardware limitations..... But some on a PC with a 3000Series card could take your Plan(s) and do Renders for you assuming they have a 3000 series Nvidia Card. (Perry?) Mick.
