  1. I have had no more crashes in X7 than in X6, I have noticed only minor slow down. However i do not do renderings so dont have a lot of symbols, and hence file sizes are generally in the 10 to 30 Mb range (often smaller). Also at the time of upgrading I also went from an nvidia gt560 (1MB) to a gtx660 (2Mb) graphics card as I had it lying around from my sons gaming machine.
  2. Scott that sounds the easiest to cover any and all possibilities.
  3. I used to do that several versions ago, as I found the template used to get bloated with stuff no longer used. But now just save as to a new location, point the program at the new file and go for it.
  4. Our site coverage is rthe area to the gutters plus hard surfaces.
  5. Alan In the level 0 uncheck floor under this room and you then dont have double floors, you have specified two floor levels 4 inches apart.
  6. Hit tab to select next to get to wall, OOB room is selected before walls there is a setting to change this in prefereces but cant quite remember exactly where
  7. Both methods work, like a lot of things in Cheif there are more than one way to achieve something. It all comes down to the method of construction in your neck of the woods. and what your plan checkers want to see on each plan. As Lew said this debate has been going for years, and possiblly will never be agreed upon by all.
  8. I tend to use rich text for everything, don't know my reasoning.
  9. by using annosets and reference layers. You have to make up new layersets and then use them as ref sets. I am pretty sure Scott has some videos of this in his utube feed or at chief tutor.com
  10. from memory I had to set up selection in 2 places. then check in CA what it is using.
  11. By having your sections, elevations, floor plans etc already sent from template plan to template layout. then copy save as both of the templates to your new job folder and relink. saves a heap of time, may eaven be quicker than scotts method as there is no need to erase anything. It is just a matter of keeping ypour template up to date with any new things. I have my details as a seperate plan file for each one, these are also already linked to the layout so it is just a matter of relinking for a different detail.
  12. Richard Have you set CA to use the nvidia card?
  13. It all comes to terminology, Foundation is LEVEL 0, basement then LEVEL 1, first floor LEVEL 2. CA uses levels which do not necesarily also mean floor. Maybe to clear up confusion CA should call level 0 "foundation" and not have a level 0 ??
  14. As the others have said this was one of the easier upgrades ever, Todd I notice your Graphics card looks marginal it may be stressed by X7.
  15. I dont think lazer is in home designer series?
  16. depends on the cistern, ours dont work like the US ones they do not fill then drain. they just flush from under the rim and head off otta there.
  17. I think you have to log in using your old login and then the forum is read only.
  18. You would have to use seperate sections and then make sure you don't click show on all floors. not sure how you get over the problem of every thing showing on the section view, maybe white out?
  19. Make up your own cad block for the plan view, have doors mulled together to achieve the elevations, I use differnet layers for each thing so I can turn off the 'proper door in the plan view. this is an area chief needs a lot of work so we can specify doors and widows better.
  20. People have to remember that with increased functionality, generally requires increased hardware requirements. Just because one version runs fine does not necessarily mean the newer version will also run fine.
  21. The HD3000 is a very low end chip, I would not expect it to work perfectly.I have problems with my HD4600 in my laptop but as I also have a gtx card I have not bothered to look into it.
  22. At least we have moved up from the 8 character limit of the old days.
