  1. profile.plan is just a file which can be copied renamed or whatever. profile plan is CA's template. create your own and then direct CA to that for all new plans.
  2. Robert That is actually more time consuming than the line specification DBX which has all 4 of those in 1 place. admittedly in Acad they are normaly readily available and you can select the line then select which ever parameter you wish to change.
  3. You can select the cad layer (little sq box with cad in it) you want to use then draw whatever and they will have the attributes that are set for the selected layer
  4. The layer set goes to layout with the plan send to layout command.
  5. If you are trying to model the house in the first post use polyline solids.
  6. Jon agtx980 uses 165 watts while a gtx750 uses 55watts. I just checked on nvidia site, so some one is putting you crook.
  7. Text is the only problem all the rest can be changed to black in 2 secs literally. just select all. Text with arrows seems to get blocked by CA this always causes a headache.
  8. here is a plan file valdez ex dwg.plan
  9. If you import the dwg in with all to there own layers you can then change the layer colors in CA Layer display options dbx
  10. I would probably go for a larger power supply, and I would go for Win 8.1 as CA X7 is out early next year and is designed for 8.1.
  11. As you can see there are may ways to do con docs. I use a plan file for each std detail then link them to the layout. I put all text on the various plan files before sending to layout. My layout template is already loaded with the details i use on most jobs, I just delete those that do not apply or relink to a similar detail if say I use a deep footing instead of a std or similar. Or link in the other details that always change such as cladding flashing details. The only thing that is added to the layouts directly is the revision balloons as they only show what is changed from the previous version.
  12. I know things have changed over the versions but I originally started with lite ver 7 or something did not last long before I went to full version. But it depends on the actual work you are doing. All of my projects are 1 off from scratch.
  13. You have to delete the (D) or this will over-ride.
  14. toolbars are easy as you can import them from the file in the toolbars folder. The preferences etc I usually just have the two machines side by side and copy. BUT there must be an easier way.
  15. Alan I have not looked at the plan. If you want to move every thing you have edit area all floors, if you want to move 1 floor as you did it, but sounds like you will have to repeat it on foundation level or rebuild foundation. Hope it helps
  16. Stairs show up on the floor they are drawn on. Stairs are one area that needs a truck load of work done on it. I am wanting to evaluate form Z to draw stairs as they seem to have a lot of control then import as a symbol.
  17. I have used CA since v6, I used ACAD , solidworks, Atuodesk mechanical and a few others prior to that. I find CA will do 98% of what i want to do, Then I go back to other programmes . I do not expect any professional to have only 1 tool in the tool box. have you seen a builder try to build a house with a single tool?? For the first few years I used to model in CA then do con docs in ACAD as I had full control over every line, then about X2 I realised thaat CA was able to achieve most of what was needed at the time. Con docs have improved over the last few releases.
  18. Why does everyone want warnings for everything, its not rocket science.
  19. Scott As guessed they are cad boxes, its the easiest and quickest method. we call them 90X45's used to call em 4x2's many years ago.
  20. Scott I have not even looked at his file. I agree Op does not understand the layouts, took me a while but think I have it now. Use 3 different page templates for each project, each al auto number sequentially.
  21. You probably manually inserted an extra page, if you do this you have to update the layout page info.
