  1. You may have to explode the text while in acad I find this sometimes with some files. Try posting the dwg file also and I will have a look later.
  2. No I have mostly 1 detail per plan, exceptions being cladding flashing details which I have up to 5 in 1 plan
  3. I import dwgs into a blank plan file as I save all details in a plan file this works most of the time but sometimes I have to explode the dwg text first. It d4epends how the dwg was made.
  4. You can have any wall on any layer, not sure about the fills I think there is a problem with that. not on CA at the moment. You open wall DBX and go to layer tab change to anything you want or make a new layer.
  5. this is from the manual suggest you read up to fully understand as it does get a bit confusing. Living Area vs. Footprint The Living Area should not be mistaken for the footprint of a house. Only true livable areas are included in the Living Area calculation. By default, exterior and hybrid room types such as Garage, Deck, and Porch are not included. Neither is any room labeled Open Below or Attic. See Available Room Types. Regardless of its room type, you can specify whether a room is included in the Living Area calculation in the RoomSpecificationdialog. See General Panel. You can quickly see which rooms are included in the Living Area using the Select Same Type edit tool. See Select Same Type. Living Area is measured from either the outside surface or the outer surface of the Main Layer of exterior walls. When walls separate the living area from exterior or hybrid room types, it is measured to the wall center line. See Wall Type Definitions. To find the footprint of a floor 1. Click outside a plan, near an exterior wall. This selects the exterior “room” surrounding the plan. 2. Click the Make Room Polyline edit button. This creates a polyline surrounding the plan from the exterior wall surface. 3. You can edit the polyline shape if you want to measure portions of a home.
  6. I would have made them polyline solids and then adjust the height as reqd.
  7. for diameter ø I use the ascii symbol alt+0248 %%c is the acad diameter character.
  8. See Tommy's reply I believe that for OOB installations this setting is off in X6.
  9. Aaron would think that is definitely a hardware issue not CA. 1. check that the ram and video card are properly seated. 2. could try swapping RAM from 1 computer to the other, hopefuly that might 'shift' the problem. You then know if it is RAM. 3. try the same with video cards. Oh 1 other thing are all the comps the same age? have they been defragged etc ??
  10. Bonus Libraries are on the CA website, but I think you nees SSA to access
  11. 1. yes, but only on 1 at a time with 1 licence. 2. gets you access to free support, videos, and more importantly all upgrades. 3. yes , check out the website for more information.
  12. 1 thing I found out recently from tech support is that if you have 2 buildings on a plan the macro for living area RANDOMLY chooses which building area to display.
  13. CA has a lot of predrawn details, but I am unable to use any of them. i have no problem drawing the details I require in CA. or alternatively it is easy to import manufacturers dwg details.
  14. Doug I probably have not got it running properly yet, it may be a driver issue as you first mentioned. Although I am nor sure how much dedicated ram is available to the 4600. However I think I have now got it to use the nvidia card all the time so not really worried.
  15. What CA version, also attach a plan file would be helpful.
  16. Bernie Just purchased a laptop on friday, it has an HD 4600 and a gt850M GPU, it will not do any type of render with the 4600. It comes up with a big note that says something about check the capabilities of the graphics card- cant remember the exact wording. with the 850m it flies.
  17. I just loaded the power PDF adv yesterday so still playing with it.
  18. Scott did I not read you had power PDF advanced? You should be able to use that program. open 1 of the files then on the home tag use insert
  19. I think there is an option to tick follow terrain or something like that. not got access to CA at the moment.
  20. I remember seeing that on old versions maybe 9.5, but cant recall seeing it since. I used to just follow the instuctions and resave, all appeared to be well.
  21. there are videos on the CA web site and probably on other sites as well eg www.chieftutor.com
  22. the best way would be to make your own mastertemplate by opening each rtemplate and exporting all the materials and wall defs etc and importing into your new master template.
  23. solved the problem I had not noticed that the joist material was set to concrete. CA will not construct concrete floor joists, as soon as I changed the material to fir framing they appeared.
  24. has something changed ? I tried to manually place a floor joist for a first floor but each time it would only draw ceiling joists. I dont recall having any problems in previous versions. as a fix I would accept the ceiling joist then change it to floor joist layer and manually adjust the height. I also had a similar problem the other week with a single story timber framed floor. This was usually simple to place manually
  25. what do people expect from a hundred buck program??
