  1. In the layout, turn off "layout box borders". for the dimensions just make the layout box larger by dragging it and put the dim's outside the cabinets
  2. Around here people buy those large tract homes ,1.5 mill+, and call me out to add to them before they even move in. I've done 4 of those this year. One job we gutted most of the house and replaced with better.
  3. I will sometimes put that plat map on my plan and trace the street as close as you can. them work out the lots one at a time using their info.. Not perfect but you can only make your plan with the info you gat or tell the client you need the exact info.
  4. I also show the 2nd floor exterior walls on the 1st floor using a reference set.
  5. for me the 2nd floor framing is always shown on the 1st floor, how else would you show posts to beams and floor beams.
  6. Johnny, you have broken the rule about designers vs. Architecture, no one ever wins or loses this argument. this has been around this forum forever and believe me it's a lost cause. I have seen many many people without any formal education do just fine in this business. Hell I remember when they gave away Architects licenses and all you had to do was sign your name.. I think they wanted more members. Who knows what's right and wrong, I think there are enough projects to go around for everyone.
  7. You know , you do have to re-link the plans when you move them
  8. I also get this all the time and reported it as a bug for a few versions now, wish they would fix this soon. Try to delete all your joists direction annotations and replace them with new ones. Sometimes that works for me but not exactly sure why it happens.
  9. What version are you using? You can reset the side windows using preferences / reset.
  10. I just don't get that kind of slowness so it has to be a system problem , for me, one time a mouse driver caused some slowness, and the other time was a macro problem and the last was using, generated sun and sun follows camera together. all fixed except the last one which should never be done together anyway.
  11. Yes Adobe may look like that but it prints ok for me, and creates a much much smaller file and when you have a 25 page set , that makes a huge difference.
  12. too many default places, Chief please narrow it down to one place. I may have missed it ,but there are also places in the framing DBX. just too many default places.
  13. I believe most of the USA will experience more regulation in every aspect of plan check and construction ,like we have experienced here in California for 20 years, at least. Most of our country has been far behind, and a lot of people will need to catch up. I'm amazed by the states that still require no framing plans or shear walls or energy calc's or engineering or anything about Green buildings , and some still need no plans whatsoever. What is good about all that is that people will need to hire you to do it, b/c it's just too much for a lot of people to handle.
  14. Anyone around that long should at least get a Chicken dinner
  15. I remember seeing Dan's serial # of like 64.
  16. Dan Bauman of Chiefexperts says he started with version 1
  17. you could just use the room finish schedule to get a square footage if you want
  18. I have used "Eset" forever and it pick up everything including what Graham said. Never had any virus's for 10 years
  19. I used Softplan until 2005 when I saw Chief and jumped on it. For me it seemed so mush easier to get it done, by far.
  20. HERE IS A SMALL SAMPLE OF SOME PRE-DEFINED DETAILS, WITHIN Chief ,THAT CAN BE CHANGED HOWEVER YOU WANT..
  21. Grab an anchor bolt from the Simpson lib. place it where you want than use multiple copy and set the spacing and copy.
  22. Unfortunately you have to do it manually, I use a note for that.
