  1. Here is a short video http://www.screencast.com/t/jnlkuc4xlIfP
  2. Lock framing-trusses just so you don't move or change them, but once you get acquainted with Chief you really don't have to lock them. You could also just turn them off.
  3. Too much to list here, but I do these all the time. I always do an as-built plan first save it and then continue doing the new addition. When framing Chief will fill in areas that don't have trusses with conventional framing so put your trusses in the existing first and lock them. Then frame the new. There are lot of guys here that train but make sure you look at all the Chief videos and youtube videos. There are lots of them. For you even the old video's will help you get a feel for how things work, not like AutoCAD at all.Chief is a room based program.
  4. Yes it's manually done by you. Chief does not do it automatically. Draw one and copy paste
  5. ALIENWARE, high end gaming computers, is what you need. a bit pricey but good.
  6. I have figured out that if printing to PDF and in color, you need to make your fill lines on the black side, color wise, to get them to print correctly or they disappear.
  7. BTW, if you move your camera out of a room just hit f5 to turn them back on.
  8. Yes , it is possible. The problem is that Chief doesn't cut the rafter off at the ceiling line like it should.
  9. here is a short video on how to make 2 walls occupy the same space http://screencast.com/t/5oAalyvwV
  10. Did you make the 1/2 wall a "No room def" wall, then slide it into place I have been doing that for many years.
  11. Scott, you did a great video on this a while back, it's a bug for sure and needs to be fixed.
  12. You can use 2 walls, one F.H. glass wall, that a door will work in, and a 1/2" railing wall set to have "no room definition" on top of each other also. two walls in one space. Several ways of doing it.
  13. Hows that, I haven't found a way. The framing sticks down below the ceiling every time. raising the wall does nothing for me. 2 different rafter sizes like 2x6 and 2x10 just don't work from inside aliging the tops. all I'm saying is the rafters do not align at the ceiling height.
  14. Stop the world, I'm getting off.
  15. Sometimes the new 2x8 will stick though the ceilings in a room camera view b/c the program won't cut the rafters at the ceiling line. If that happens just turn off the rafters in that camera view.
  16. I needed to get up to speed fast, so I took a couple of weekend classes.
  17. I do them all the time, they just don't know how to do it correctly.
  18. I actually purchased Softplan until I came across Chief, and have been with Chief ever since over 10 years ago. It was a better program to learn, Softplan was all over the place for me, and could just never learn it easily.
  19. I really need room planner to export the dimensions ,always on, with the plan or I'll never know if something changes, and for the archive I need to keep of existing measurement's, without that I just can't use it for as-builts.
  20. Lew , that's what Rrescheck does, the heating and a/c loads and all energy things and Chief exports to it easily.
  21. I think that Rescheck works with Chief as an, export from Chief and import to Rescheck, of course, here in California we can't do it, we have our own separate energy program and can't export from Chief. Rescheck is a free nation wide program, except for Calif.
