  1. Just something I found Copyright-Basics-Home-Designers.pdf
  2. Those are usually just a painted metal panel, no swing, no thickness, no hinges, I just use a wall material region, noted using a label. I would not want it in any schedule
  3. Another question: if a firestop is required, then is an access to each space also required?
  4. Larry, thanks for the reminder , no ref sets using the Cad detail method.
  5. Is any part of the roof within the 5' of any setback, new codes require them to be 1 hour fire rated.
  6. I have never used the cad detail method, ever but also not sure why, but there is a reason out there, somewhere.
  7. I also use the layers to generate my plot plans, why?, b/c I want everything live meaning, change the floor plan and everything else changes automatically and I can also show the complete roof plan on the plot plan, using reference sets. Live is the key for me, b/c it just save time. Using a template plan and layout and live drawings, I just open them and start drawing and everything else generates automatically as you design. No cad for me, except for details, of course.
  8. Can someone show me a screen shot where that is , I can't find it for some reason, that my wife reminds me of all the time.
  9. It might not be the anti virus program. when you open Chief , it checks the internet (chiefs website), to see if you are a valid user then opens the program for you. given all the different internet speeds it could take longer for some people. One time Chiefs website shut down and some people couldn't open for them. I think once you open Chief you have about 2 weeks before it check again.
  10. Did anyone turn it in to tech support? Have to do that for a fix to happen.
  11. The answer is, it depends on if your inspector or plan checker knows what the H*** they are talking about. Verify everything. Sometimes they make up things.
  12. Too late, already bought it. Yes the new GTX 1080 looks very nice, and not to expensive. It out performs the titan by far. Maybe a future upgrade. I'm getting the GTX 980ti, i7 5960x, 8 cores 32gb ddr4. Alienware need to build it, I'll get it by the end of the month, then 3 days of transfer and re-install everything.
  13. I guess it's up to the local building official if he want to enforce it or not, like most things, did they miss it in plan check?
  14. I would say Commercial--yes, residential--no
  15. X8 is very good to go with, now, slowness depends on what your computer spec's are. Maybe it's time b/c I don't have slowness anymore, they fixed it. Had to do with to many macro's.
  16. I don't do it like Michael, what I meant was, you could choose different reference sets as you want in the layout, after it already set up but I guess using his method , you can.
  17. Yes, reference sets are nothing but layer-sets, that you set up as a reference set. Just call it something like, reference set floor 1, to show floor 2 referenced on floor1. You can even copy a layer-set that's close to what you want and re-name. You can even set it up from a layout view.
  18. Larry My computer is smarter than I, but then again I can make babies.
  19. And, I also put all interior walls on a different layer so you just see exterior walls above.
  20. I think Scott is talking about the city requirements. We have to show that stuff. Reference sets is one of the greatest time savers of all time. an old 2 page plan is now 20 to 25 pages now. Glad Chief has reference sets or I might go elsewhere. No cad lines for me.
  21. for one, 2nd floor overhangs shown on the 1st floor. Also 1st floor roofs and exterior walls seen on the 2nd floor. Reference sets are the only and fastest way to go. I use them on just about every plan sent to the layout.
