Give them hell on the survey, that was a BS answer

Even the inventor (Scott) of the SAM method uses macro's in his plans, try to learn it as soon as you can ,as it is one of the biggest time savers of all time.

Unstalled then reinstalled, still no toolbars
DRAWZILLA replied to Richard_J's topic in General Q & A
Go to Chief's data file and open toolbars file and see if anything is there, if not Copy your older version tool bar file to this location, new versions update themselves but not in X5. You my just have to create them again. Easy to do just about 10 minutes. X5 might be the version Chief changed how the toolbars worked but not sure exactly what version that was. -
How to fix walls NOT going to vaulted ceiling when they should?
DRAWZILLA replied to Jonnoxx's topic in General Q & A
Click the little green arrow and give them a point, they might win a trip to Idaho. -
exterior elevations Exterior Elevation Issues, 2nd floor ceilng.
DRAWZILLA replied to Designer100's topic in General Q & A
I fixed those items for you, but I could see some other things, fixed a few of them, Merry Christmas I sent you an e-mail link to it for download 1542-fixed.zip -
I like the macro method for keeping your notes up to date, Change the macro and it changes every reference of that macro. I keep them in the ruby macro section.

Check your "Edit wall layer intersections" tool and play around with it to get what you need.
-
Don't forget all the updates if needed also.

Grouped walls, fixtures, etc. in one block?
DRAWZILLA replied to Investmentbiz's topic in General Q & A
I would use the point to point tool to move the unit exactly where you want it to be. -
Just fill the upper roof planes on an individual basis, not all of them. Yes I wouldn't do that for the framing plan. using reference sets, I can show anything I want on any plan. Maybe its a case of what version you are using. At this point I can only do what Chief will let me do ,and this is something that Chief has never dealt with in the last few versions, and wish they would.

How to import and manage multiple reference drawings for several floors
DRAWZILLA replied to Jonnoxx's topic in General Q & A
If you want to trace a floor plan, then just import the line drawings to the 1st and 2nd floor ,block it and or put it on its own layer ,and in the back location. Then trace and when done just turn that layer off. -
That's what the roof plane fill is for.
-
It is intended to let the program work faster.
-
Have you tried using reference sets to see all the roofs below? Using that method you would never have to draw any lines
-
I seem to remember that also. Not sure if they fixed it or not
-
Your correct, in X7, no way to export, maybe someone else knows, X7 was a long time ago for me. Sorry. in X8 it's there.
-
Yes, I have done it, but it was so long ago?? Now the version updates do it for you automatically. make sure you are on the user lib. folder and right click and use export.
-
Export the x7 user lib.to a file on the desktop, then import in X8. The core lib. in X8 will be the new one the program gives you, you have no choice.

I draw full construction doc's and hardly ever use any cad at all. The reason behind Chief is that you really don't need to draw any cad lines in the plan, elevations, etc. , it's all automatic. The only cad need for me is the cad details ,and I have already drawn those, so really not needed. Every now and again I will need to draw a line in the plan but that's only in special cases.
-
For me the roof plan has never been correct ,but there are some things you can do to help, like setting the transparency of the top roof to lighten up the below roof lines. No one really wants to see any lines below the overhang above.
-
I don't use Dropbox for Chief but I have it, and don't really use another computer other than my desktop. I do have Carbonite for backups, and can go back 30 days to retrieve any file.

Richard I don't understand what this comment refers to, some future condition? It's about underneath a deck ,where the OP wants the terrain to show, that's all.
-
use the rainbow tool in an elevation view, every change I make is in a live view never in the layout box. Just double click on the layout box and the live view will open.
-
It's under a deck , who cares. doesn't matter in this case.
-
Change the actual pattern lines using the rainbow tool.
