How To Drop a Single Room's Ceiling Height Two Story Building
DRAWZILLA replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Here is what I do for a 2nd flr. over existing http://screencast.com/t/DpqwiMsQMkhZ I add my ceil to the floor structure on the 2nd floor so wherever I have a second floor it automatically frames the ceiling and new floor joists Also when I say I add a p-solid to the section ,I mean p-line filled. -

Wrong, it will work without lowering the wall if you don't extend the ceiling plane line beyond the wall surface -
Chief has room planner for as-builds. Chief has greatly improved it , with wall thickness and such. I think I'll give it another try.

Yes that's the way I do it, I misinterpreted your Quote when you said ceiling finish. -

And you just thickened the drywall to drop that ceiling--that's new to me. Exactly how does that frame. -

I'm talking about just changing the surface thickness- not framing. -

But that won't frame ,I would use a ceiling plane and add your own ceiling height or create a floor structure from above with the dropped ceiling included in the structure. X9 fixes that -
I like it, looks great for me, if it works as advertised and accurate.

Well , at least here, no changes what so ever, but it is really up to the building inspector ,and they always make you change the plan to take any liability off them. -

Around here if you change anything from the permit set, you have to go back and change the plan re-engineer it, and re-submit to the building dept. No changes allowed. -

Did you forget that we were drawing 40 years ago, 2 page plans for large 2 story's. Those were the good old days. -
No savings for you, I paid mine a long time ago. remember if you are a beta tester and drawn some plans , you can't go back

I don't think dual Zeon's will help you, Larry Hawes has dual Z's and he has some speed problems, but what do I know. You could try turning off things as you work on the plan. They say X9 will speed things up a bit. The new nvidia1080 video card is the best at the moment. I would also go for the latest CPU you can afford. I have a pretty good system and a very large plan will slow it down a bit. It's like buying a bag of grocery's, what's in it is what counts. The cost is all about what's in it. What's in the plan says it all for some speedy work. -
Chief might show it at the IBS but not release it then. You never know.

Unfortunately our California templates and notes wouldn't help you, they would just laugh. we work under our own codes. -
I took a couple of all day classes when I acquired Chief, that was all it took. Even though it costs some money, it really saved me lots of heartache. Also Scott Hall took me under his wing ,with workarounds, he caught on faster than I. (you needed them back in Ver. 10). Thanks Scott, I still owe you
