There is one trick that may work - depending on the situation. You can't change the bottom height of a rail. So...this is probably easier to do in a cross section view. Select the rail and uncheck Specify Railing - make it a normal wall. Adjust the bottom height to suit. Change it back into a railing. Adjust rail heights, etc.

I would use any of the cad tools to get the shape correct and then convert to a Terrain Feature. PS. This doesn't have to be on a flat site as a Terrain Feature will follow the site contours.

Ah, I see now. On rereading the OP I can see how it can relate to Temporary Dimensions. It was the "turned off auto dimensions" that threw me. I thought the the OP was talking about auto dimensions not updating as objects are moved. Silly me.

Time to upgrade from your really old version. Why do you have the two 1/2" layers marked as Main Layers - that doesn't look correct. Your main layer should be the 5 1/2" stud layer. Post the plan.

Well..on my machine they are not dimension strings, they are still dimensions, but all individual dimensions. Wether they display in, on , or under the dimension line seems to be random. Have you sent it in as a bug?

Rich, I can view the files in a .calibz file on a mac - but only to see the .jpeg's or .png's in the file - not the 3d data. I am not sure that you can do the same on a pc. On a mac: Rename the file (better to use a copy of the file to experiment with) to a .zip extension (delete the .calibz) - calibz are zipped files. Double click the .zip file and it will extract the contained files to a folder with the name of the .zip file. You can then view the .jpegs, .png's, etc, and there will also be the .calib file which contains the 3D data or symbol.

Hey Scott, That is one of the things I have decided to do during the current self isolation. I did read some preliminary stuff and got lost pretty quickly! You would actually go on a cruise after what is still happening on cruise ships? - we still have several boats in Australian waters in dire straights.

Delete the Roof baseline Polylines same as Eric said. Open the dbx for the RV room, General panel>Options>Roof Group - change to 1. Auto build roofs. Are you really sure that is the way you want to build that roof? What is going to happen to all the water that runs down the house roof and hits the wall of the RV room? How are you going to get access to that space between the two roofs? I would never build a roof like that, and I advise you not to build it like that - not a good idea at all.

Have you tried letting Chief draw your lookouts automatically? You can use a Reduced Gable End Truss (check both End Truss and Reduced Gable) and Chief will build the lookouts. Here in Oz, we would normally use lookouts "on flat" - but sloping with the roof.

That sounds like you are placing a picture or image into your plan. I think DzinEye needs to do a Backup Entire Plan so that we get the textures?

Don't forget that you can also spin a 3D view with Ctrl+Alt+S.

Having that stupid Reference Grid displaying is one of my pet peeves! I hate the thing but I find it is turned on in just about every Chief plan I look at.

There shouldn't be any problems getting close to or exactly what you want. Why not post a pic of one of your hand drawn plans and someone here can probably tell you. -
Using a 120" hight stem wall will not do what you want. I think you will find that once you change the stem wall height back to zero, all your problems will be solved.

My tips are: Don't use Elevation Points - use Elevation Lines/Splines. Use Elevation Regions as much as possible. Don't overlap elevation data. Don't use Retaining Walls - use Terrain Breaks and normal walls placed after. Use Elevation Data instead of the Terrain Modifiers. Don't use Automatic Subfloor Height Above Terrain. Tile a 3D view with the terrain plan as you work so you can see the immediate results of your input.
