Unable to add exterior band.

See below. I am trying to add exterior moulding to a house similar to the brown band at the bottom. I added this using the pony wall tool, but that simply allows me to create a rectangle.. not a shaped moulding.

So I follow the instructions in picture 2.. but when I click OK in step 2, I do not get the Moulding dialog box they show as step 3.

What might I be doing wrong? How do I get to the box where I select the moulding. I have already created it. It is in my library.

Thank you!

Than you... yes, that is what I'm trying to do. See original question... when I get to step 2... i never get the moulding dialog box... 1) I can highlight the outer perimeter 2) I can select make room moulding poly line. 3) I can add hight... when i press "OK" nothing happens. I get no moulding dialog box.

Once you click OK...

  1. the molding polyline should be selected automatically
  2. then you need to open the object manually.
  3. It will open to the moldings panel where you can then specify your molding.

After you complete step 1, is the newly created molding highlighted and if not, can you select it manually?

Camatt,

As Eric just replied, it should have been selected after you hit ok. Just tested to verify.

Make sure the "molding" layer is turned on. It is hard to see the oob color.

Make the layer a color that you like, to be able to see it on the exterior of the building.

Select it, then follow the rest of the procedure as described.

OK... in Repose to ericepv and MPDesign...

First, thank you.

At the risk of being dense... I have a couple questions...

1) After hitting OK... no element no is selected in the plan. I confirmed that Moldings are visible. When I seem in there is no element (molding) added. Thoughts?

2) Out of curiosity, why cant I select anything from the "Convert Molding" drop down. The only option is Blank Molding... maybe because there is no moulding currently on the exterior wall?

I would love to make this system work. SNester's solution mostly works, (and the video is fantastic) but it takes more steps and the corners where the moldings meet are not clean.

If there is a build in system to imply add exterior molding, I would love to figure it out.

THANK YOU!

  1. When the 'Make Room Molding Polyline' box appears, your only choice is 'Blank'.
  2. Click 'OK' , select the molding (it should be automatically selected)and open the DBX. *
  3. When the DBX opens, go to the 'Moldings' tab
  4. Click 'Add New' and then select your molding

*If you can't see the molding on your plan (and you are sure the layer is visable0, try increasing the line weight for the 'Moldings' layer.

If you still can't get it yo work, post your plan

Hope this works for you - Eric

Is it possible that the mounding is coming in below the ground (obstructing it from view)?

I thought this too, but in his post it says its at 48".

I just find it easier to manually draw the exterior molding by using the "Molding Line" drop down.  With doors, turns, porches, etc., there was too many fixes using the molding polyline tool .  Doing it manually, I can control all of that.  But that's me being anal.

Also Cammett, make sure the "extrude inside polyline" is not checked.  If it is, the molding is reversed and will show inside the wall.
