Camatt
See below. I am trying to add exterior moulding to a house similar to the brown band at the bottom. I added this using the pony wall tool, but that simply allows me to create a rectangle.. not a shaped moulding. So I follow the instructions in picture 2.. but when I click OK in step 2, I do not get the Moulding dialog box they show as step 3. What might I be doing wrong? How do I get to the box where I select the moulding. I have already created it. It is in my library. Thank you! x14 in Mac OS M2Pro
scottharris
Have you tried using the molding polyline tool? It might be a better option than a pony wall.
Camatt
Than you... yes, that is what I'm trying to do. See original question... when I get to step 2... i never get the moulding dialog box... 1) I can highlight the outer perimeter 2) I can select make room moulding poly line. 3) I can add hight... when i press "OK" nothing happens. I get no moulding dialog box.
ericepv
Once you click OK... the molding polyline should be selected automatically then you need to open the object manually. It will open to the moldings panel where you can then specify your molding. After you complete step 1, is the newly created molding highlighted and if not, can you select it manually?
MPDesign
Camatt, As Eric just replied, it should have been selected after you hit ok. Just tested to verify. Make sure the "molding" layer is turned on. It is hard to see the oob color. Make the layer a color that you like, to be able to see it on the exterior of the building. Select it, then follow the rest of the procedure as described. hth
Solution SNestor Posted Friday at 12:41 PM Solution Share Posted Friday at 12:41 PM Made this video a while ago but it’s still relevant.

Camatt
OK... in Repose to ericepv and MPDesign... First, thank you. At the risk of being dense... I have a couple questions... 1) After hitting OK... no element no is selected in the plan. I confirmed that Moldings are visible. When I seem in there is no element (molding) added. Thoughts? 2) Out of curiosity, why cant I select anything from the "Convert Molding" drop down. The only option is Blank Molding... maybe because there is no moulding currently on the exterior wall? I would love to make this system work. SNester's solution mostly works, (and the video is fantastic) but it takes more steps and the corners where the moldings meet are not clean. If there is a build in system to imply add exterior molding, I would love to figure it out. THANK YOU!

Click 'OK' , select the molding (it should be automatically selected)and open the DBX. * When the DBX opens, go to the 'Moldings' tab Click 'Add New' and then select your molding *If you can't see the molding on your plan (and you are sure the layer is visable0, try increasing the line weight for the 'Moldings' layer. If you still can't get it yo work, post your plan Hope this works for you - Eric
Rpadge
Is it possible that the mounding is coming in below the ground (obstructing it from view)?

I thought this too, but in his post it says its at 48". 2 hours ago, Camatt said: If there is a build in system to imply add exterior molding, I would love to figure it out. I just find it easier to manually draw the exterior molding by using the "Molding Line" drop down. With doors, turns, porches, etc., there was too many fixes using the molding polyline tool . Doing it manually, I can control all of that. But that's me being anal. Also Cammett, make sure the "extrude inside polyline" is not checked. If it is, the molding is reversed and will show inside the wall.
Camatt Posted yesterday at 02:59 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:59 AM OK... I spent a lot of hours trying to use the built in system for exterior moulding. it was amazing the contortions and trial and error I had to go through to get a wall to show up properly... inverting the moulding, crazy and seemingly random offsets 15-9/16 vertical and 2.5 horizontal.. and it would only randomly show up on one one wall or another... obviously takes a lot of mental dexterity that I don't possess. Doing them Manually seems to require making 4 different moldings... a different one for west facing walls than South, East and North. And given that There is a slight pattern to then and to the edges where they terminate, the corners dont work well. Would happily pay someone to teach me these things online. my example of terminations.. this is a small detail but I think I have to have a custom solid for each section... probably not worth it. And I have no idea how to create that ceiling. Yes, I know that poor plant needs some love...
JiAngelo
Place some invisible walls to separate the lower ceiling areas from the raised ceiling area. Raise the ceiling, then use 2" tall soffit (or slabs) to define the perimeter and then paint them your desired colors.

Not a lot to go on here but you can create the tray ceiling by enclosing the porch area with Room Dividers to make a room and using the Make Tray Ceiling in Room tool. You can add a molding to it to get the darker brown border inside the tray ceiling. In this case it's probably is easier to use 3D Solids for your banding as you can bevel the edges as needed. Here is a quick take using these methods.
Camatt
Rich_Winsor First of all, wow... thank you! That looks beautiful! Did you recreate the brown molding using a crown molding or is that something else? PS... extra points for the plant. I noticed you moved it under the light. I watered it and moved it so it would have sun and a view of Lanai
