carowe
I am using X15 am drawing a 3 story house. The first floor has the floor joists showing - as in the picture below - but the remaining two floors have drywall ceilings. And, as you can see in the pic, there is a partial ceiling in this room as well where the skylights are. Thought it was figured out, but when I got the joists to display on the first floor, they did on all of the floors. Is there a way to do this? TIA! Chopsaw
You should be able to delete the ceiling finish layers from the room definition. Not exactly sure what is what is going on on the left though if that is a separately defined room or if it would require a manual ceiling plane. Chrisb222
Just as Chopsaw said, delete the layers in Ceiling Finish in the Room Specification DBX. Make sure you have defined rooms so you can keep it to only the room you want exposed joists.

In order to have the nice white wall finish at the end of the floor joist.... room divide the main floor directly under the 2nd floor. In addition to removing the ceiling layers on the main floor, remove the upper floor structure (leave the subfloor and finished floor), just delete the joist material from the 2nd floor. Then manually draw in a floor beam at the 2x material size you want on Level 1, place the new beam at the edge of the room divider and adjust the heigh to the underside of the sub-floor, multiple copy and add in the additional things like ducting, blocking, etc and you are done. Put these newly made beams on a layer of their own and there is no need to turn on any other floor framing.
carowe
Thanks so much - got it!!! So appreciative of the help folks give on this forum!!!
Ange822
I tried to remove the ceiling layer - but unfortunately the floor joists from above aren't showing. Also now have a blank area where the rim joist / floor joists would be at the sundeck. Any ideas?
MPDesign
Have you created the floor framing? Your 3rd picture shows that they don't exist yet. No red plus in the used column.

Thank you I had not! I don't typically use the framing functions but would like to start. I have specified "Lumber" as the type of floor joist, and it keeps showing as "I-Joist". Any ideas on why this is? I have tried "re-build framing" function. 4 hours ago, robdyck said: This seems like it would more likely be caused not having any deck framing, but not because of removing the ceiling in a basement room. Thanks Rob that did the trick! I have issues with the deck framing disappearing quite often. Not sure if this is a common pain point, I have tried looking up in forums and would like to start a new topic at some point.

I have tried "re-build framing" function. In theory, that should work. Might be a problem with not setting it for the right room(s) or you set it for a floor but you are seeing a ceiling (or vice versa). I would usually set this up in my floor/ceiling defaults and then make sure all my rooms are set to "use default". If that doesn't help, you should post your plan and someone can look into it more.
