I've owned several HP plotters over the years, currently running a T520 for about 3 years and absolutely love it. Nowhere near the hassles of previous models, fast and mostly trouble-free. Highly recommend.

If you're sending to layout as Plot Lines, you can also delete them in the layout view. It's a bit of work but so is every method. One trick that expedites selecting plot lines in layout - once you have the first line selected, you can marquee-select by holding the shift key. You can delete an entire roof plane of shingles in just a few seconds using this method. As always, the downside to editing plot lines in layout is that if you ever need to refresh the view you'll lose all your edits. So any edits should be made once you're certain the view is final.

Yes. Switching the SPV switches the layer set and many other things, as others mentioned. I do however still have the layer set drop down on my toolbar. I refer to it while navigating the plan, and I also sometimes temporarily switch to a different layer set than what the SPV is set to use. "All on" for instance.

One thing that irks me is not having the same control of railing wall lines in plan view. The display of the railing in plan will CHANGE depending on the settings but not in the same ways as normal walls. Don't know why they behave differently. Having that control would simplify the way I like to show covered porch slabs on plans. Unless I'm missing something...

Does anyone know why there is this strange "band" going over this farm sink when a custom countertop is placed? Or how to eliminate it? Automatic countertop works correctly. Thanks. Sample file attached: countertop.zip

My copy of X12 has a Patio room type in the OOB Residential Template. As does X11.

In my opinion Apple simply has a more refined final user experience due to integrating the hardware and software together as a unit, making the functionality seamless and easy for the user. I've always believed this and have had extremely pleasant experiences with their products. Very anecdotal, but my brother on the other hand went down the PC road and has told me many stories of endless headaches getting both software and hardware to work, patching things together, and so on. Sure some test is going to show one machine is faster than another at a given evaluation, but other factors come into play. With regards to the question of the OP, all I can say is I'm tickled pink that a little unit I bought new for $669 works so well with zero issues, year after year. I'd like to PBR but it's just not worth the hassle and expense, when everything else just... works.

The Sales Dept would probably object to publishing that.

I run CA on a Mac mini late 2014, 2.6 GHz i5, 8 GB RAM and on-board Iris CPU graphics which I have driving two 24" monitors with just the out-of-box onboard graphics. I have never had ANY issues running CA except PBR. It doesn't seem to have enough video muscle to produce decent PBRs but I use Ray Tracing for good renders anyway and have been able to get my RTing down to just a few minutes for most renders. Graphics on minis are not upgradable except the method Ryan described of adding an external GPU. For me this isn't necessary at this time. Everything else about CA runs in near real-time, with zero issues except an occasional glitch on a new version release. It's fast, reliable, and stable and I do love the Apple platform, having used it since the late 80s, and the mini is an incredible value for what you get for the money. But I have no idea how a Mac mini would compare with your current system.

I just run a material list and look at shingles. Don't know how accurate it is but I assume it's close...

You can also do a Google search for "brick textures" and click on "Images" and see if you can grab something that will work.

You must be using the Core catalog 2-D plants. Those don't produce shadows in PBR, only the 3-D plants in Bonus catalogs do. See this post:

Same here. Reset is very handy. Yes it should. And always, not randomly. Allowing the OK to be pressed without executing the update, and not alerting the user, is incorrect behavior. This should be reported.

I'm glad it was put back. Please do not permanently remove it, it's a very important tool for setting up camera views.

+1 I don't know how any user would benefit from this tool being removed. Even stranger to me is that they would portray it as being removed when it was not. I'm GLAD it wasn't totally removed, but it does seem that it was hidden, but why...??

Not a question, just an observation. I was pretty miffed when I read in the X12 update notes that the Perspective Crop tool had been removed, as I use this tool extensively for setting up 3D exterior views. The language in the notes was pretty clear that the "deprecated" tool was REMOVED, but it still exists in the customize toolbars dialog, in case anyone else wants to still use it. It works the same as it did in X11. (In my opinion the tool was NOT deprecated, I use it all the time.) Not sure why they would say it was REMOVED when it's still there..? From the update notes, emphasis mine: 1. Perspective Crop Mode In Chief Architect X8 through X11, Perspective Crop Mode allowed older functionality governing zooming in cameras from Version X7 and prior to be preserved in saved cameras in legacy plans migrated forward. This deprecated tool has been removed from the program in Version X12 ....

This is me. I'm not a 24/7 Chief user. Probably average 10 hours/week on the software including weekends. Too many other chores/jobs/hats/duties. It takes me nearly all year to get comfortable with a new version, then it changes. For that reason I have skipped upgrades before. It IS a pain to change when you just don't use the program that much. That said, all the good new features make learning the changes worth it.

It can be used to delete unwanted lines, and also to extend or otherwise alter existing lines, and to draw new lines. Any line can be selected with the tool, opened, and edited for type, weight, style, and color.
