You can hit Purge and any unused materials will be deleted, or select two or more of the same name and hit Merge and they will be merged into one. But as rlackore said it's possible to have two dissimilar materials with the same name, so be careful doing that.

I've created a highly ornate Driveway Wrought Iron Entry gate!

I just manually set a p-solid base with stone texture, a p-solid cap with concrete texture, and a manually placed column on top of the cap.

Porch walls not showing in Floor Zero reference
Chrisb222 replied to PMMully's topic in General Q & A
I don't know what stem wall height you want or how the porch tutorial is telling you to do it, but I set the foundation to "auto rebuild" and selected "Create Wall/Footing Below" in the railing walls Structure tab. Then I could set the stem wall height to whatever I want. Not sure what version that tutorial is in but this control is relatively new. Watch the version number of the program the tutorials are using, many are out of date. -
How to change the orientation of a floor plan
Chrisb222 replied to MovingandShaking's topic in General Q & A
Nice that someone has already tried the poison fruit so I know not to. -
I gotta start adding a flock of birds flying by on my elevations...

Yeah, that's what mine shows now too. Must have changed the interface. Now it loads in Basic by default which does not show textures, while Standard does, and is a little higher quality. Still not "HD" though so that may be why they changed it...?

Wack-mole roof plane specification game
Chrisb222 replied to rockyshepheard's topic in General Q & A
Can't look at plan or video right now, but if the program moves both edges, neither was "perfect" +1 -
At this time you cannot suppress that dimension. I cover them with white CAD boxes now, which sucks. I made a suggestion some time ago that we have that ability, among other enhancements. Check it out, add your voice to the request:

Looks better than many textures provided by Chief... grass, shingles etc. +1 For elevations the 2-D would be pretty easy to draw, easier I would think than modeling an actual door symbol. But to each their own. I spend an inordinate amount of time making a plan set cover that includes a ray trace of the exterior of the house with plants, tree shadows, and a nice graphic layout of the page with the homeowner's name in a pretty font. We all gots priorities.

Yes. That's what I do. However I confess that I still suffer from forgottenitis.

I extend them with CAD lines and CAD masks. It sucks. But I like the footing to stay with the wall in case I move the wall, I want the footing to go with it.

Don't forget about 3D viewer models. I'm a design/builder and my homeowners LOVE that. Makes SSA non-negotiable for me.

The system is good for the reason Michael stated except for a major flaw. Voters should be identified. That would largely end catty downvotes, "vendettas" and attacking others simply for their opinions. In a professional forum, such behavior is abuse and this system is easily abused because of anonymous voting. Ending abuse would go a long way to making the system more about knowledge of the program, and less about "popularity." Every other forum I use that has voting shows who voted.

Not exactly. You CAN have a unique Default Set for each Saved Plan View but it's not necessary. Many times a Default Set will cover many SPVs. In fact Default Sets aren't necessary at all, but I still use them in conjunction with SPVs. No one NEEDS SPVs but after working with their power I will never go back. I can go from working on the foundation to the kitchen cabinet layout by simply switching the SPV, which even zooms in to the correct floor and area. For me that's just a view I can change around without worrying about messing up another, more important view. It's like a "junk view" that I can do anything to. It never gets sent to layout but is useful for certain tasks and troubleshooting, without the danger of screwing something up. Could I create dozens of SPVs for various tasks instead of using the Working Plan View? Possibly. But the tasks are random and I'd end up with a list of rarely used temporary views that the one WPV is used for.

Standard TV works for me. I like to extend the screen so the client sees the model changing, but doesn't see me pulling the ropes.

Unfortunately, you're a victim of an evil spirit known as the Stair Demon (see pic), closely related to the ghoul that haunts terrain modifiers known as the Terrain Goblin (see pic). Stair Demon Terrain Goblin These devils will cause your model to do all kinds of weird things you don't expect and can't control. The only way I know to exorcize the little devil is to offer a sacrifice of 3 complete stamped plansets from different, current projects in a fire made of 2x4s cut from the structural webs of the trusses on one of your houses underway. As the prints burn walk backwards around the fire chanting "way every in perfect is tool stairs auto the" 12 times, then share your CA software key on social media. When your key is returned and you can open Chief again, the railing will still look like it does now. In other words, I got nothing.
-
Hmm. Works great for me. Not trying to be an ass, but just saying that once you understand how the program works and stop judging it by a foreign standard, it actually does that quite well.

Print clearly calls for 2x6 rafters @ 16" O.C., but personally I would look in the area indicated by the attached pic to see how the ceiling and windows come together, to get a better idea of how the roof was built.

Manually cut out the floor for the stair below
Chrisb222 replied to Steve_Nyhof's topic in General Q & A
I have a "Working Plan View" that displays all kinds of stuff I don't want on my docs, and "___ Floor ConDocs" "Foundation ConDocs" "Basement ConDocs" etc plan views that appear the way I want on the finished docs. That way I don't have to turn layers on and off, just switch out plan views. -

The Open Below "dashed lines" are the actual invisible walls defining the space. By default those reside on the "Walls, Invisible" layer. If you don't want to see them, uncheck "Display" of that layer.
