  1. IF you did not change the default door/drawer AND didn't specify a different style in the face items then changing the default door drawer will automatically change them all-no need to change one at a time. IF you some cabinets are not using the default then the suggestions given so far all work well, take your pick. One other choice if some cabinets either by room or design have face items specified as a different style then I find the most efficient way to deal with that is to open a 3D perspective, go the library and select the new door/drawer style and drag it onto each cabinet. This works when style pallets don't though they are fabulous for changing the entire face of cabinets-make em and collect them. Last thing to note-unless you are doing ALL drawers for a project it's not the best idea to make a drawer base the default since then every new cabinet you add will be a drawer base-OTOH face configuration is not a dynamic default so it won't change existing cabinets.
  2. I had the X3 and worked just fine doing mostly interiors. I had been and still am input directly into CA via bluetooth without issue. (ran into a suggestion from Al Frey to take the numbers and enter manually from the device memory-will be trying that next time) I started to get more full houses where I needed to get exterior pitch and other dims. Sold the X3 and got the 7500i which Al suggested. It has a point-finder camera to see the dot long distance. The X4 also has a camera not sure the difference between it and the 7500i. I did have to get the firmware updated at the local Leica store since my phone wouldn't do it. The only downside is learning what each function does and how they work.Basic straight measures are a breeze though I bring a tape for short ones and just in case :) I keep a print out of the full manual which has more than the little quick start guide that travels with the device. I practice a bit the day before a measure, getting the hang of it. One of these days I may spring for their tripod and the simplest attachment, currently hacked onto a camera tripod I have. Look over the functions available, double check for the ones that require an adapter (more $$) and get the most you can justify out of the gate. BTW saw the 7500i on sale somewhere recently as an option. Shop around prices vary.
  3. Scott Harris of Chief and Al Frey (sort of Chief did a webinar recently on site measures. Worth a look. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/10212/as-built-measurements-best-practices.html?playlist=171 I use the same laser as Al (per his advice some time ago, newer models may be better?) but had been sending measurements directly into Chief on a 2 in 1. Likely to try his method next time though since he says it's faster and he does more of these than I do.
  4. Do what Eric says then select the one you flipped, convert to symbol, fixtures interior, hangs on a wall. Now you have it in your library to use as part of the window
  5. Headboard on the left is The head board you used with material made from your posted image, 2nd is the same headboard with a copy of the material with global symbol mapping selected, 3rd is the same headboard with another copy of the material scale of the altered per attached, and the last one on the right is a second headboard from the same catalog (Gismondine Upholstered Panel Headboard 2) with the original material applied.
  6. I had read them; did not see anything about CA. If building a desktop as originally planned I would do exactly what I suggest. Things changed so getting a new laptop. The only suggestion I managed to get was definitely get an RTX card. Mobile 3000 aren't likely until Q1 or 2 of 2021 so not waiting on the lappie.
  7. From what I've read it would be worth the wait...at least to find out after launch.
  8. Are you trying to make a blind corner cabinet? Little more info, screen shot, what have you tried?
  9. Not sure if this helps or not. I did a hospital cafeteria with a lot of custom symbols that was getting unmanageable. I put all the furniture and symbols into a separate plan. Then just referenced it both in plans and in 3D. In 3D the only option for reference is standard view but when used in a PBR it appears to take on some (maybe all) of those characteristics. At least the refelection in the tables is better than I see normally in Standard view. Put this one together on the fly (faster than looking around for the old ones) It made working a lot easier, less lag. Yes it does update live. NO you can't RayTrace-the referenced files won't show up.
  10. Like other said, it's where I do most development. I also use them for some dimensioning. I have some default sets for cabinets, doors, windows that trigger a layerset and a specific dimension default. i.e wall cabinets only show so I can drag manual dimension (in one sweep) that gets placed a fixed distance out, another for base cabinets, another for centers, have one for opening centers. Those dimensions all go onto layers that show up in appropriate plan views, just faster to pull them that way. I also use the primary working layer set for placement of CAD guide lines and occasionally for making notes during a phone call things that I don't want to show up elsewhere or have to clean up. Lastly I share most files with others, many who have trouble with all of this-layers, views, sets.... I teach them to leave the plan views and associated layersets that ARE sent to layout alone. Instead have them use the working PV with the working layerset. Cuts down on getting revisions back that need a lot of fixing.
  11. I use it for working with working layer set and never send it to layout.
  12. Set deck room to match height of main floor-or the other way around whatever you want-right now deck room is higher. Change to Dutch Gable per DBX here, reduce overhang some- not really a shed roof which would be near impossible here.
  13. Dug out one I had from a while ago then made a style pallet. Attached is library with drawer box and style pallet to paint cabinet with, and a plan (X12) This won't show the pipe chase in plan, for that you have to use Michaels method. But you can include Comment or other OIP fields in it which I find more useful for ordering. Which method to use depends on preference, how cabinets are being done, and by whom.
  14. 16 GB min, I've got 32 and never seen it all used, get an RTX video card, 17"has more heat dissipation and gains 1"of screen width but a little less portable for job site. In the office I connect to 2 external monitors and sometimes a TV making size irrelavent There are 10-11 brands of gaming laptops out there. Almost all have both good and bad models, some better though. That said I'm on my second Sager (Clevo-1 from Sager, 1 from Xoticpc) and likely getting an Evoc (Clevo) from Hidevolution.com shortly. I like the i/o ports and the ability to specify specifics for more than most. Typically I check the forums at notebookreview.com about specific models wading through the gobbledygook. You can call places like Hid and Xotic etc to speak with a human, (just got off the phone with Shane at HID very helpful) A forum search here will find lots of answers too.
  15. Mostly what Michael said-or make a symbol to be part of the cabinet. You can show a cabinet that would have retractable doors closed where you can open the doors and show them ready to retract. Requires custom door symbols specific to the size you need to do what is shown. This only shows the closed and open ready to retract. To show fully retracted you need to do what Michael said and if you want to show both use layers.
  16. Eric-Did you use the default metric plan or the imperial? I get what you have from the imperial but from the metric I get this- Now that template is from Beta so maybe? Add a molding For the boxes if it is really important you can mess with it several ways per attached-none are finished and I used some parts I already had so they are not exact-Cleanest result is a lot of extra work-on the far right. Other two look fine inside the cabinet but not from the side.
  17. I can't offer more than Dermot said. I only ever use custom counter tops and always send for a quote. Chief deducts the footage of the sink cutout, does not account for undermount charges or for any extra charges caused by corner configuration or seam placement. I would not expect them to. I suppose you could solve some of those with a macro (and throwing extra $$ to CYA) Laminate counters are even worse with varied charges. Then you still only get a countertop drawing if you use custom counters-regular counters don't show up unless the cabinets are included. So I use custom tops which as Dermot points out are a breeze nowadays.
  18. Been using Bluebeam PDF Revu standard for 10 years. Upgraded twice may again. The included Studio cloud is handy. Closest alternative is PDF Exchange, cheaper but missing some tools.
  19. I've used 15's and currently a 17, was using a 13 in for field measures and travel. I might likely go to a 15 next since I use a 27 and a 24 attached at the office and would save about 1/2 lb. While I already have an Everki backpack to fit 17 the bag I use for the 13 fits a 15 and it also a lot lighter. Since I want external monitors I look at ports (the Evoc machines). Would be swell if one of the 13" two in ones converted to a 17
  20. I was thinking the same thing but if find mo$ if need be but then checked RTX2060 laptops (Unless the OP is up your way
  21. If PBR is something you use X13 is likely to make use of RTX video cards.
  22. As I said- I can't find ANY properties in the layout that to the layout file name that can be accessed. From what I can see no matter how you slice it your are sending something from plan to get the information. Happy to be shown otherwise, I just can't find it.
  23. I got %referenced_filename[0..6]% to work so long as it referenced a layout box from the plan. Can't get it to work otherwise, can't find anything in the layout that has any file properties. But a text box with arrow is an improvement as is [0...6] thanks
  24. Tried all that without success, likely pilot error but once I get something to work I stop running down the rabbit hole.
  25. Zip file with layout and plan that does what you want. Downside is you text size is controlled by layout box text style. It's a small section of plan sent to layout page "0". Requires both macros in the layout (included) It reads from the filename from the plan file sent not from the layout (used Michael's suggestion about referenced_filename-thanks) Found the truncate code on Stack Overflow. (elipse may be unnecessary? ...) Personally I'd be looking at using the shorter filename and finding a way to add the other information in the OS. File names that long get to be annoying when a lot of tabs are open. I did this one quickly in Directory Opus. Have not checked to see if there is a way to automate the comment there but I would think it possible. Maybe in windows too but that I'm not looking into since I already use Dopus to set up folder per job. Truncate.zip
